Evil Twin Femme Fatale Noir

Evil Twin Femme Fatale Noir

To take up the challenge and make a 100% true Brett black IPA can very easily become a fatal attraction for the Brewmaster. Once you get acquainted with Bretts irresistible, seductive, alluring and very charming nature, it will ensnare you and drive you mad obsessing over how exactly you can create the perfect desirable tangy, funky, tart flavor in ya mouth.

3.4 650 ml bottle. Pours a very bark brown with full head. Aromas of sour dark fruit, chocolatey malts and a bit of funk. Flavors of coffee, nuts, vinegar, and light roasted makts
4.0 Bottle, shared with Parksy. Very dark brown, lively pour with a huge bubbly brown head. Interesting profile-- dark and roasty with lots of barnyard funk and overripe tropical fruits (= piggy manure character). Really well done.
3.8 Black friday blackout. Probably my favorite I have had so far. A nice black ipa flavor.
3.4 Bottle to tulip Spruce, pine, grapefruit, light tropical fruit, molasses. Dark, reddish brown with a 2 cm, long lasting, frothy, tan head. Taste is clove, pine, molasses, dark chocolate, and toasted malt.
3.7 650ml bottle pours black in color with a 3 finger beige head that leaves some nice lacing on the glass. Aroma is roasted grains with brettanomyces and a citrus. Taste is a roasted grain and citrus hop bitterness with a light fruity and malty sweetness finishing with a dry lemon tartness. Light to medium bodied with good carbonation. Overall, an interesting brew for the style with the tartness adding to the IPA. I guess if bretts are used properly I can find a home for them in my palate range.
3.7 Very enjoyable despite being a bit of an oddball. Pours a dark black in the body with a few hues of brown around the edges and a thick, almost creamy beige to tan head. The aroma is chalkly, minerally and earthen with a light smoke note, heavy brett funk that balances the roasted malt well. Hops are mild and almost seem lost in the buzz of brett and roasted malts. Sweet cocoa, light chocolate milk notes, roasted malts are dense, light vanilla, brett funk throughout the profile with a lingering farmhouse and funky note. Hops are lost again; the taste is similar to the aroma in this way. Peculiar mouthfeel and palate with a heavy body, light carbonation, slatey/chalky mouthfeel and limited bitterness. A new one for me...
3.7 With Z, pours a rich dark black color with a nice mocha Java head. Taste is rich ’ tart ’ malt with a nice confluence of hops. Taste is hoppy with some mild Brett. Finishes with heavy chocolate malt, some bitterness with a moderately long finish. Quaff Score 8 /10
3.8 Bomber. Pours Blake with a tan head and aroma of hops and citrus. Taste is bitter, with hoppy, citrusy notes along with roasted malt into the dry, bitter finish.
3.6 Dark, nearly black pour with a fluffy tan head. Aroma is sweet, a little different. Kind of yeasty? The beer is strong. Hops come in throughout. This beer has a Belgian kind of characteristic. It almost tastes plastic and synthetic. It’s a beer to think about.
3.8 tan head dark ruby. Aroma of fresh pine hops. chocolate some funk. Tastes coffee, dusty brett, pine. very light carb - thats what you get with all brett. brett is well integrated. very dry finish.-purple - kiwis
3.7 Pours a hazy brownish black from the bottle with thin ring of tan head that leaves light lace. Aroma of musky funk over bitter roast. Taste follows, nice funky brett over good roasty backbone. Interesting, definitely something different.
3.7 This works, and that’s most of the battle when you are adding bretta to a hybrid style with an identity complex. Roast, light bretta and medium bitter finish. Pours black with good head and lacing. Tap at Scion.
3.9 Bottle. Pours black with thick tan head. Aroma of Brett, chocolate, lots of funk, a bit roasty. Taste is very funky, medium bodied, lots of funk throughout with a bitter backbone, high carbonation. Overall, nice.
3.7 Black with a thick tan head. Aroma is slightly sour and tart with roasted malt underneath. Flavor is reversed, roasted coffee up front with a touch of hop bitterness. Sour Brett comes out in the finish for a somewhat strange transition. It’s interesting, though almost like two different beers smashed together. Does come off more as a stout than a black IPA, body is pretty full and the hops are just noticeable. Wife: 3.8
3.8 Bottle during RBWG. Pours a dark copper with small beige head that lasts. The aroma is roast, caramel, and hay. Thin mouthfeel with earthy hop, roast, caramel, and strong brett, very good.
3.7 Bottle. Black pour. Aroma is quite strong, with lots of roasted malt and some brett. Taste is first of a normal stout, with roasted malt, cream and cacao. Finish has a little bretty sourness, tiny touch of horseblanket. Not very hoppy, I would call this a brett stout, not an IPA.
3.7 Malt and brett aroma. High on carbo. Taste like real hoppy stout with some sour at the end. -- rated with beerbasher/winphone
3.7 On tap at Pizza Paradiso in Alexandria, VA. Opaque black with a tan head and good lacing. Aroma of roasted malt, forest wood, pine chocolate. Taste of roasted malt, pine, grapefruit, chocolate, charcoal and wood. Medium/full body and medium/low carbonization.
3.7 Bottle. This is one of the most interesting brews I have tried in some time. Funky, fresh, and light.
3.7 Nice sour light flavor. Chocolate dark brew. A nice Brett beer. Good flavors. Enjoyable unique. Impressive wild ale.
3.5 From Cask at The Old Toad. Dark brown color with a small, light tan head. Aroma has toasted malts, chocolate, coffee, caramel malts. Light hints of brett. Citrus, grapefruits and pines hops. Taste is light sweet. Medium body, creamy texture. Finishes bitter and roasted with herbal hops.
4.1 Pour is black with a frothy brownish head. Lots of spicy Brett aromas with a bit of smoke and floral hops. Wild yeast, leather and barnyard notes upfront followed by loads of roasted malts and a long medium pine bitterness. Medium carbonation. Rather unusual black IPA that combines the characteristic Brettanomyces flavors with lots of roastiness and hoppiness.
3.9 22 ounce bottle into tulip glass; no bottle dating, but is a recent release. Pours pitch black color with a 2 finger dense tan head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, lemon zest, orange peel, pine, citrus rind, chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toast, light char, floral, grass, pepper, light funk, and floral/roasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good balance and complexity of citrus/floral hops, fruity/spicy brett, and dark/roasted malt notes; with good strength. Taste of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, lemon zest, orange peel, citrus rind, pine, chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toast, light char, floral, grass, pepper, light funk, and floral/roasted earthiness. Moderate amount of roast/pine/citrus rind bitterness and yeast spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, lemon/orange zest, citrus rind, pine, chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toast, light char, pepper, light funk, and floral/roasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Very nice balance, robustness, and complexity of citrus/floral hops, fruity/spicy brett, and dark/roasted malt flavors; with a nice bitterness/sweetness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a smooth, fairly creamy/sticky, and lightly chalky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with only a slight warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very nice Black IPA style. All around good complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/floral hops, fruity/spicy Brett, and dark/roasted malt flavors; and very smooth and fairly crisp to drink. A very enjoyable offering.
4.6 Pours opaque coffee brown with a fairly thick tan head that leaves some good lacing. Roast malt aroma has a strong overtone of woody hops and hay, plus a hint of cinnamon. Bold flavor has roast malt, hoppy, smoky, earthy, hay, and subtle molasses and miso notes - but where did that cinnamon go? Firm texture has a fair amount of fizz, and leaves a hoppy and roast malt finish that has hints of coffee, miso and yeast. Let this one seduce you.
3.3 22oz bottle. Very dark brown. Smells of cocoa powder. Flavor is full Brettanomyces. Finishes with a slow funk that lingers along with a gentle abundance of hops. (4237)
4.1 1 pt 6 fl oz shared bottle @ home from De Molen. Body is nearly black, Head is big, rocky, beige, fully lasting, excellent lacing. Nose is slightly roasty, Aroma is more roasty, smokey, dark roasted coffee, dark chocolate, toasty, not harsh. Taste is light sweetness, heavy roasty bitterness. Full body, slightly sticky texture, soft carbonation. Finish is medium lasting roasty coffeeish bitter, later also hoppy. Quite simple, not heavy, good one.
3.4 Pours brown black with light brown head. Aroma is cocoa, smokey ashtray, faint must, coffee, smokey pine. Flavor is light sweet, faint funk, bitter pine hop. Med body and carbonation.
3.8 Dark, clear brown. Light tan head. Slightly funky, smells slightly of a secondhand smoke-filled apartment. Some roasted coffee grounds. Dry bitterness, some sweetness. Thick body, chewy. Acidic. Very nice.
4.2 Bottle: Served in a Duvel glass: Medium to bigger sized somewhat airy creamy beige foamy head on top of a black colored beer. Aromas of some yeast (light light brett tone), liquorice and bay leaf, light roast, some manure, some malty caramel tones and a funky edge. Flavours are a smooth mix of roast, bitters, bay leaf, some malt roast, light coffee, light creamy, herbal toast/roast, some light yeasty tones and a toasty caramel tone. Aftertaste is malty, bitter, light roasty, light bay leaf and some caramel. Low carbo, creamy to silky mouthfeel, meeium to fuller bodied and a light silky creamy light oily light spiced texture. Very nice, balanced, smooth and tasty. Guess those are the most important things we people look for in a beer... Anyways, I am enjoying this one!
3.8 1 pt 6 fl oz bottle. Black-brown colour, frothy beige head leaving some lacing and aroma of roast malt, coffee, chocolate, cream, fruity hop. Taste is sweetish roasted malt, with caramel, chocolate, coffee, vanilla, yeast notes and tangy grapefruit bitterness. Foamy mouthfeel, medium bodied, soft carbonation, roasted dry spicy bitter finish. Very drinkable black IPA.
