Evil Twin Freudian Slip

Evil Twin Freudian Slip

Did you also at some point in your life get seduced by promising words like ’probably the best in the world’, ’it works every time’ etc.? This American Barley Wine Ale says it how it is. It’s intense, attention seekingly hoppy, and definitely your kind of beer. A beer with a big ego, drive and a huge thirst for recognition.

Da weiß man gleich, woran man ist.
4.5 Bottle at home. Clear copper colour, some yeast chunks, finger of bone yellow foam. Nose is sweet, dried fruity, molassy. Taste is medium high sweetness, low hop bitterness. Low alcoholic warmth, smooth mouthfeel. A very nice barley wine!
3.8 Bottle, cask London. Pours gorgeous Ruby dark brown red with no head. Scent is light wine and pale malt. Taste is lovely caramel and sugary malt old ale. Gorgeous. Finish is a bit sticky but lovely. Fruity. Very great.
3.4 12oz bottle at the Knickerbocker Hotel on 42nd in NYC. Reddish brown in colour with a thin brown head. Aroma of dark fruit, spices and toffee. Full body and soft carbonation. Taste is heavy sweet. Molasses, caramel, sweet malt and booze. Light hops. Flavour overwhelmed by the high ABV and sweetness.
Nez discret, on sent légèrement l’alcool. Palais explosif, gros hit d’alcool, fruits noirs, vieille prune, porto.
3.1 Very thin copper and light bronze coloured body with a very thin, fast-dying tan head, about only a centimetre tall. Aroma of pit fruits, alcohol, oak, piney hops and a bit of whiskey. Medium-bodied; Assertive rye and deep malty flavours with tons of alcohol burn and very little else, perhaps some light hops. Aftertaste is relatively thin (very thin for the style) with not much malt, but pure alcohol burn and rye bitterness along with some hops and a touch of grain, but the alcohol is super pungent, and literally no body is present. Overall, a very interesting and somewhat easy-to-drink barley wine without any body or complexities, but goes down pretty easy for ~11,0% abv, but that’s because there is nothing too nice about this one - a very interesting beer. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Whole Foods in New York (Bowery), New York on 05-December-2015 sampled at home in Washington just over a year later on 17-December-2016.
3.0 Refrigerated 12 oz. brown bottle poured into a cup. Slightly hazy copper with small off-white head. Aroma is heavy malt, medium body, medium/low carbonation, and some little lacing. Taste is heavy malt and herbal hops.
4.2 Golden pour with a bubbly tan head, decent retention. Aroma is American oak, vanilla, cracked wheat, vanilla, powdered sugar, wildflower honey Low-medium carbonation, explosive alcohol warmth and depth. Palate is a whirlwind of malty sweet, and alcoholic, earthy dry tones. A phenomenal beer.
3.8 12 oz single bottle from Molly’s Spirits. Reddish brown appearance with a tan head. Aroma of caramel malt, toffee, resinous hops and light alcohol. The flavor adds medium to heavy bitterness and mild sweetness with hints of fruity esters. Full body with a lingering hoppy finish that mellows out to a nice balance as it warms. A nice sipper overall.
4.1 the aroma is fruity and spicy with hints of plum, berries, grapes and toffee... the taste is fruity and caramel with notes of plum, dog-rose, garden berries, red wine and dark fruits... sweet, dry and warming aftertaste...
4.1 Deep red. Malt, caramel, dried fruit, a bit of alcohol and some spicy hops come to mind here. The taste is full and sweet, with a good bitter finish. It hides the abv fairly well. Full body. Overall, a great barley wine. It is not overly sweet, as some of Evil Twin’s beers tend to be, and I enjoyed it until the last drop. Not as vinous as The Perfect Nose. Rich and tasty.
3.9 Bottle from Spec’s. Hazy reddish amber with a small off-white head. Aroma of toffee, toast, fig, and caramel. Taste is sweet and full of dark fruits. Full bodied.
3.8 Pours ruby red with medium head. Aroma: very pleasant aroma of malt (a bit nutty), herbs, pine tree, some biscuit and bread. Taste: a bit sweet, with hoppy counterbalance, some biscuit and hazelnut. Palate is pretty extreme regarding hops and long. A very good representative of the style.
4.1 Bottle, BB 01/02/2020. Clear bright copper body, medium head. Aroma has American hops, liquid caramel and some figs. Also some sweet vanilla. Medium thick body for the style and the drinkability is nice. Taste has smooth caramel, dried fruit, figs, vanilla and a reasonable dose of American hops. And even the sweetness is in balance (at first I was a bit skeptical that it could perhaps be too extreme like Molotov Cocktail). Feels quite complex, yet also easily drinkable. Good one.
3.9 Copper color. Aroma: esters, malt, dry, raisins, wine, dried fruit. Taste: dried fruit, raisins, sweet port wine, very good.
3.7 Bottle from boxbeers.dk. Pours dark, dark brown with an small off-white head, lacing disappearing. Aroma has strong barley and alcohol, slight vineish notes. Flavor has great smooth caramel malts, slightly bitter, a bit of cocoa almost. Very smooth and quite easy drinkability.
4.3 Huge malt scent with oranges and coriander. Deep dark amber in color with two finger white head that dissipates fairly quickly really nice lacing. Super sweet malts come through first then bitter grapefruit with slight booziness in there with grain and cereal taste tingly dry finish. Medium body with slight crisp flatish carbonation. Awesome barley wine style booze hidden very well. Love the complexity or this brew I believe if people can stop being scared of the ABV then you would be bigger then you are. Don’t stop making those crazy brews that has people scared for no reason, great brew!
4.0 12 oz pour from bottle into tulip. Pours a purple-brown, reflective, short-lived off-white head. Nose is sweet, fruity, a little raspberry, hint of citrus, malt. Full body, thick. Sweet, similar fruity notes to nose, raisin, bitter, moderate boozy burn on the finish
3.6 Bottle 0,33. Pours amber with off-white head. Caramel, berries - black currant, yeast, apple, alcohol is noticeable. Soft and pleasant on the sweet side. Full body and oily texture, soft carbonation. Very nice despite the alcohol notes.
4.1 Dobre choć nazbyt alkoholowe piwo ze srednia piana ale ladnym ciemno czerwonym krwistym kolorze. Zapach granatow i malin.
3.8 Bottle, thanks to lambister. Copper color, white head. Aroma has sweet caramel notes, sweet fruits, sherry notes. Sweet malty body, fruits, some hoppy notes, sherry notes.
4.0 341ml bottle from Brewery Creek. Bottled May 12, 2014. Tasting with Jamey. Pours a murky copper with a beige head. Aroma is candied tropical fruits, citrusy. Taste is still very hoppy with candied tropical fruits, licorice. It’s amazing after 2 years! Though, remembering Widmer Brothers Old Embalmer 2012 which was tasted in 4 years after bottling and was still very hoppy I am already not surprised :-) Tropical fruits bitterness aftertaste. Excellent!
