Evil Twin Imperial Biscotti Break - Bourbon Barrel

Evil Twin Imperial Biscotti Break - Bourbon Barrel

Imperial stout brewed with natural flavors and aged in bourbon barrels.

Italy has a certain 'je ne sais quoi' - fab food culture, highly decadent history of art and cool countryside. Some might argue the people are loud and flamboyant, they steal our women, the soccer players melodramatically flop on the pitch. Listen - that's all part of the secret Italian ingredient - keep it cool, confident, arrogant and extravagant. Forza Italia.

4.0 From bottle. Pours dark brown with a small light brown head. Aroma is vanilla and caramelish. Toasted malty. Caramelish. Sweet and lingering caramelish finish. Vanilla and wooden far finish.
4.0 Nice addition to the original. Sweet and bready with heavy roasted malt, vanilla, caramel, oak and bourbon. Pretty beer and oily and heavy.
4.2 On tap in Minneapolis (MN) Evil Twin’s bigger beers are a treat I love to sample when I don’t have to spring for a full bomber. This world class version makes it evident that they know their stuff as well as anyone. I look forward to the next time I stumble across a tap handle in a local bar. Aroma / Appearance - A dense black fluid base crawls along the edges of the glass. Sticky legs trap the mocha head before merging into an oily heart. Oak, chocolate, coffee, and bitter raspberries drive home the thickness of this potent profile. The barrel aging does not go too far; you can still pick up enough of the base beer to get a sense of what it would be like in comparison. Flavor / Palate - Raspberry filled donuts, warm coffee, and oak meld into the perfect morning after breakfast. If you took a jelly donut and drowned it fruit filling and chocolate I imagine it would taste something like this. Decadent and rich the profile lends itself well to a nightcap. In a very crowded style with many peers it manages to carve out its own little niche.
4.1 Bourbon covers up some of the heat and fake sweetness present in the most recent batches of iBB. Vanilla, coffee, smoother too - some light bitter roast. Not in the 100th percentile for me, but quite nice.
4.0 A: Jet black with a thin brown lacing N: Bourbon, vanilla, oak, milk chocolate T: Toffee, chocolate, coffee O: Nice barrels and sweetness to it.
4.3 Bomber->snifter. Deep brown with faint lite brown head. A: rich chocolate, vanilla, almonds, toffee. Deep. T: chocolate malt, vanilla, booze, bitter roast, almond. Nailed it. Really nice, right in my wheelhouse.
4.1 At Hopishop. Lacing, moussy, pale beige head over a black beer with burgundy edges. Aroma of chocolate sauce, gravy, bourbon, coffee grounds, beef broth, wet wood, porcini, whisky, elderberry syrup, leather. Concentrated candied sweetness on the tip of the tongue, candied fig, some brambleberry sourishness and the expected layer of beefy umami for balance, softish carbo, thick oily, viscous mouthfeel; deep dark malt core, nuts, bitter chocolate, toffee, toast, eventually roasted coffee bitterness pairing with spicy hops, drying woodiness and a late but potent dosis of bourbon-like alcohol. Excellent and not as extreme as some other Evil Twin ales, which probably did this beer good.
4.3 Bomber sampled @ HopisHop B.U.M.B. 2016. Oily black with no head. Nose is insanely big on bourbon, overly heavy on booze, very hot, thick molasses, syrup, chocolate syrup, thick sugar. Taste is hot, very heavy molasses & bourbon, sugar, pure syrup, chocolate syrup, sugar, dark fruit syrup,... boozy. Body is thick molasses & bourbon. Good beer, very nice even but a bit too hot & heavy on bourbon, bit more balance would have made it even better. Improved as it got warmer.
4.4 Bottled (Himmeriget). Pitch black coloured. Dense brown head. ARoma. Full of roast, chocolate, bourbon, vanilla, wood, cocoa, some coffee. Flavour. Molasses, roasted, brown sugar, bourbon/vanilla, alcohol, chocolate, ligth liqourice. Full bodied. ends full of roasted bitterness, coffee, vanilla and sweetness. Fantastic.
4.2 Head to head with regular version: pours black, with stable tan half finger brown head, which slowly transforms itself to a ring around the glass. Aroma: rich, intense dark malts aroma with notes of coffee, dark chocolate, licorice, cocoa powder, molasses, vanilla, hint of bourbon. Flavor: intense coffee notes, supported with dark chocolate, molasses, licorice, cantuccini, cacao nibs, vanilla, gentle bourbon note, port wine, and dark fruits in the background. Alcohol note is very well hidden, malt backbone, bourbon and hop bitterness are very well balanced. Finish is dry, slightly thick. Body is full, texture is super smooth, carbonation is low. Very good imperial stout, but still preffer regular version.
4.2 Purchased this 22 ounce bottle on one 1 October 2014. (Because I marked it myself) Stored proper. Pitch black with very thin tan head that dissipated quickly. Aroma is slightly charred grain, mild bourbon, dark chocolate. Flavor doesn’t show any signs oxidation, bourbon is very mellow but does show itself in the finish. Probably maybe a tad past its prime but still really smooth for the overall flavor. Bourbon is nice. Body is fuller with a fullness that I expect in the style.
4.4 Bottle himmeriget. Pours pitch black with a brown. Aroma of deep choco, soy, vanilla, oak, cocoa nibs, scents of coconut, fudgey, cake alike. Taste is rather sweet, vanilla heavy. Bourbon, slick. Waow
4.3 September 19, 2015. Bottle, received in a trade, thanks! Black with a dense fizzy brown head that quickly dissipates. Aroma is sweet malty, roasted and slight boozy with caramel, fudge, raisins, dark chocolate, hints of milk chocolate, toasted almonds, vanilla and bourbon. Taste is medium sweet, light roasted bitterness. Finish is bitter with dark chocolate, notes of coffee, sweet caramel, figs, notes of prunes, vanilla, creamy almond paste and warming bourbon notes. Medium to full bodied, soft to average carbonation. Very nice!

4.0 [5/11/16] Bottle sample at Himmeriget in Copenhagen. Black. Aroma of chocolate, cookies, bourbon, vanilla. Sweet flavor with chocolate, vanilla, cookies, caramel. Full thick mouthfeel. Great stuff.
4.2 Had next to Pappy Biscotti. Aroma of chocolate, bourbon, coffee, vanilla, fudge. Taste of chocolate, coffee, slight bit acrid, and solid caramelly bourbon. This was a little bit behind the Pappy verison which had more complexity and a lot more vanilla and almond to it.
4.0 Bottled. Pitch black body with a small, lacing tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, chocoate, vanilla, bourbon, coffee and licorice notes. Sweet flavor that ends up with alcohol notes and some bitterness. Medium bodied, oily to syrupy text. and soft carb. A greeat Impy. 🌟🌟🌟🌟

4.1 Shared 22 oz. bottle. Pours almost black with a thick, creamy dark chocolatey head. Aroma is roasted malt and strong bourbon. Taste is roasted malt malt, bourbon, chocolate, caramel, oak and vanilla. Finish is boozy and malty. Very good, but maybe just a little too much bourbon. Might have been better if aged longer.
4.2 Aroma:bourbon, vanilla with underlying maltiness; Appearance: pitch black with tan head that dissipates to nothing; Taste: huge flavor that follows the nose; delicious and complex; Palate: heavy mouthfeel with long, sweet finish; Overall: quite excellent, although not my favorite imperial ever; would definitely buy again.
Beware the 12%!
3.8 Bottle. This beer has great nose. Aroma of vanilla wafers and booze. Pours near black with creme colored head at the glass. It's got flavors of cherry and vanilla. A bit thin.
4.5 pours black with a moderate Brown head. The bourbon really comes out in the aroma. Chocolate, marzipan, bisquit and light tobacco notes. The warmth of the bourbon hits you right away. Sweet, chocolate, marzipan and a light earthiness. The alcohol is present and complimenting. Full bodied. Oily, sticky texture. Bitter bold finish. Fantastic. Honestly one of the best beers I have ever had.
3.6 bottle poured into a snifter..opaque with a thin tan head..aroma of bourbon, chocolate,coffee,vanilla..tastes like it smells..medium body..good but not worth the price tag.
4.1 2014 bottle shared by a friend. Black pour with a thick tan head. Aroma of malt, chocolate, bourbon, nuts and some roast. Malt and chocolate flavor with vanilla, bourbon and walnuts before a roasty finish.
4.4 Tap At Himmerriget.Black colour with small beige head.Strong taste of vanilla and chocolate also cocoa and wood, nice creamy with full body and long smooth mouthfeels and oily textur and even bourbon nots.
