Evil Twin No Hero

Evil Twin No Hero

An alien-like outsider, always flirting with oddity and exploring anxiety and paranoia. A style chameleon, a wonderful labyrinth and truly a transcendent genius. It’s impossible not to idolize out of proportion. This is a stout. It may not be a hero, but it’s attractive, clever and hungry for stardom.

3.5 Can. Pours jet black with a two and half fingers thick tan head. Roasted coffee aroma, some leather and peat. Taste is quite bitter roasted coffee beans, with a pure 100% dark chocolate, chalky and dusty taste. Full and thick bodied, creamy mouthfeel. Do not expect a pastry-like Evil Twin Imperial Stout from this, but loads of roastiness.
4.1 Although I consider myself to be a ‘Bitter Sweet’ Stout aficionado, this is a rich and proud imperial stout. Would that there were more. And in a 12-22 oz bottle. Oy! This has a lightly astringent bite that is there to be respected. Yum. More please.
3.5 Canned 473ml. -at Craft Room Zagreb shared with Marko. Pitch black coloured, medium sized brown head, coffee in the nose with discreet whiff of chicory. Roasted malt, coffee, chocolate, cocoa powder and some roasty notes in the finish. Quite dry finish. Rather boring from Evil Twin.
3.6 Can at Craft Room. Pitch black, fluffy tan head. Full nutty malty aroma with some coffee. The taste is drier than expected, lighter, leathery coffee ending exceedingly dry, bitterish. Nice but not fantastic.
3.7 Mild oatmeal aroma and chocolate. Pitch black color with small sized brown head. Sweet chocolate taste with cocoa bitterness, roasty. Medium body, soft carbonation, silky. Nice and long roasty finish. //can at Craft Room
3.5 Good oatmeal stout from Evil Twin, more textural and aesthetically pleasing than tasty, but a well-crafted pint nonetheless. Enormous amount of char and roast provide a smoky, bitter baseline, while strong veins of bitter chocolate and espresso round out the profile. A prominent coffee cherry acidity takes away from the roasted goodness, but the finish grows bitter and clingy, with a dry fade dripping with smoke. If only that weird bright acidic streak were tamed, this pint might be a classic. Smoked espresso nose, and the pour's a medium-bodied black with a brown head and good lacing. Not bad, but could be better.
3.3 Pint can. Roasted malt aroma with notes of chocolate and coffee. Pours black with a large mocha brown head that had excellent retention and some lacing. Starts with rich roasted malt and dark chocolate flavors as well as a smooth mouthfeel from the oatmeal. Finishes smooth and dry with coffee flavors that coat the palate with the roasted malt for a lingering aftertaste. Decent, but definitely not the best stout evil twin can muster.
3.4 light chocolate and coffee aromas. pitch black in color with great long lasting brown head. taste is of coffee, lightly of dark chocolate
4.0 Sort og klassisk stout. Også typisk oat da den har blød og sødme som den klassiske have.
3.4 A light tan head on a dark body. The nose has roasted grain, berries and chocolate. Some oatmeal stouts deliver a very dense, rich stout experience. This is a tasty stout, but lacks the density and deep flavours of some oatmeal stouts I have had. A bit disappointing for ET offering
3.7 16oz can - pours completely black with dark tan head . Heavy aroma of roasted barley . Slight smokiness . Solid .
3.6 Single from Hop City KSM. Smooth and creamy. A little more bittersweet on the finish than your typical oatmeal stout. Some deep subtle berry flavors.
3.8 47,3cl Can @ Be Hoppy, Madrid, Spain. Black colour with a thick tan head. Aroma is roasted malt, chocolate, licorice, coffee, vanilla. Taste is roasted malt, dark chocolate, coffee, licorice, vanilla, hints of smoke. Medium to full body, average carbonation.
4.3 No Hero is a more straightforward approach than I typically expect from Evil Twin. However, the lack of wild experimentation doesn't result in a weaker brew. No Hero is nothing more than a bitter, robust Stout and that's completely okay. Burnt grain, strong coffee and earth character. Body isn't as heavy as you'd expect considering these big flavors. It's a bit out of character, but it's not off-putting. This finishes off quite easily for a black, roasty ale. It's best paired with good friends and Converge's unrelenting No Heroes album.
4.5 Pours with a good coffee colored head. Color is dark brown. Aroma is velvety and lightly fruity. Burnt layers and fruit & muesli bread, dark leather. Palate is dry, quite balanced, thick, some watery parts. Complex palate for sure. Taste is velvety, strongish burnt body, faint lemon grass -like, bitter herbal notes. Some very fine, dark espresso notes. It's a strong stout, not sweet at all. But for those that like burnt and dark, solid coffee, this is a very well-made beer. I like the sweeter stouts more than this, but that's more of a personal preference.
Algo seca. Postgusto a chocolate.
3.7 Can, 7%. Aroma of salty smoke. Black colour, seems fairly clear. Small frothy off-white head. The flavour is quite roasted with a caramelly hop note. Has a little smoke and cream, but not the salt I thought I smelled in the aroma. Quite creamy finish with a hint of winegummy hops. Thin mouthfeel, but not a problem here, I think.
3.8 Can. Pours cloudy very dark brown with airy tan head. Clear aroma of roast and malt, with touches of hops and yeast. Bitter, roasty flavour with coffeelike and ashy notes and touches of dark chocolate and hops and yeast. Hints of oats. Roasty and estery aftertaste with coffeelike touches. Creamy mouthfeel despite medium carbonation. Good.
4.0 Schöne dunkle Röstmalze im Trunk, leicht angebrannt, etwas Mokka. Mittig herb, malzig. Lange holzige Spur bis in den Abgang. Hinten etwas bitter. So muss ein Stout schmecken.
4.2 10/23/2016 -- from notes: 16oz can, from Brentwood Spirits. Batch 1. Pours black with a big brown head. Awesome big earthy chocolatey mild coffee somewhat nutty aroma. Grea cocoa, earthy hops. Touch of ash and cola. Medium-plus body, great chewy feel, mild dry in the finish. Moderate bitter taste, lighter to moderate sweet, great hop balance here. This is a fantastic oatmeal stout. Haven't felt this way about one since Beer Geek Breakfast, and it reminds me a lot of that brew. Fantastic to enjoy with my morning sandwich.
3.8 16 oz can -- batch #004. Pours dark brown, looking near black and opaque in the glass. Very good tan head. Well hidden alcohol. Loads of dark roasted grain flavor with just a bit of burnt toast. Smooth, full body. No off notes.
3.5 473 ml can from the Bishop’s Cellar. Pours a very dark brown with modest-sized light tan head. Aroma is roasty and smoky with molasses, light coffee and hints of cocoa powder. Flavour has both roast and smoke notes with treacle and hints of coffee and dark chocolate. Mouthfeel on the slick side. Nice.
3.5 Hyvä Stout. Oatmeal ei ole ihan mun juttu, mutta rasvaisten nakkien kanssa se menee.
3.7 16oz can poured at home. Not a lot of aroma - guess I don't expect too much. Decent taste and bitter aftertaste. Enjoyable
3.8 24-OCT-2017, can @home, from Boxbeers. Black with a high, lacing, tan head. Aroma is sweet roast, dark fruit, herbs. Taste the same. Quite herbal, quite fruity. Not burnt at all. Just smooth roast. A little milky feel to it. Lactic? Could be. Not all that bitter. Just a little hops. Fine.
4.2 Can at home. Deep dark, brown head. Creamy, nutty, almonds, roasted malts, light ashy, coffe bean, sweet licorice. Carbonated, cream, coffe, biscuit, spices (almonds, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, honey).
3.9 Szép fekete szín, nagy bézs hab. Csokoládés, barna cukros illat. Pörkölt malátás, melaszos, csokoládés ízvilág. Enyhén keserű utóíz. Finom.
3.8 Aroma: 6 Slight/medium aroma of malts, caramel, dark fruit, chocolate and roasted malts. Appearance: 5 Opaque black beer with slight yeast and a slight/medium brown head. Taste/Palate: 8/4 Starts medium sweet with malts, caramel, dark fruit and chocolate; ends slightly bitter and dry with roasted malts. Overall: 15 This beer is intense, complex and balanced. This is especially true for its abv. Lovely dark fruit and chocolate at the start with a decent amount of roasted malts in the finish. Perfect appearance and palate as well, but the aroma could have been a lot stronger.
3.3 Pint can from VE. Nose dark roast and scorch, some chocolate. Pour is pitch with a short and sudsy light brown head. Watery light body, dry at first with bitter scorch and great dark roast, medium bitterness that manifests mostly as grit on the teeth, sweetness that does eventually come around and accumulate strongly. Subtle plum in the background, touch of silky/oily oatmeal, hop and roast astringency. A weird one but ultimately quite fulfilling. [2017.09.08: 3.3]
3.9 Can. Dark brown. Chocolatey aroma is also quite hoppy. On the lighter side but that makes it drinkable. Bitter and hoppy. Has again a nice balancing sweetness and intense roastiness.
