3.8 Bottle, gusher. Unclear golden with a large off white head. I and my fellow passengers on this train detect brett, dry flowers, wood, mould, dust, white pepper and grapes in the nose. Flavour follows, very floral and honey like. Hay, wood, bread. Bretty leather. Medium body, oily texture, lively carbonation, mild sweet and bitter with light acitity. Dry bretty finish. This is pretty good, all over the place.
3.7 Bottle gushed as crazy. Hazy orange color with white head. Aroma has intense farmhouse notes, grassy, citrusy and funky. Taste is funky but not sour, really rustic and earthy notes. Balanced at first, just slightly bitter and dry on the finish. Really well made farmhouse ale.
3.6 Bottle from Kihoskh, Copenhagen - gold coloured pour with a white head. Aroma and taste is fruity and floral grassy hoppy, some barnyard yeast, zesty citrus lemon notes, funky and bretty, dry fruity finish. Very Nice.
3.6 Bottle at home, BB2015 but consumed tonight. Pours hazy golden with rich foamy white head. Medium body, creamy and silky mouthfeel, good lacing, slightly over-carbonated (unless it was the side-effects of being stored and consumed after its proper time). Dry chalky finish with bitter aftertaste. Yeasty aromas with hints of honey, summer fruits, maybe some herbal spices like coriander, hints of bread malts, lime peel, citrus, some light sweetness in the back. A real beast!
3.8 Bomber. Pours a hazy orange with a white head and aroma of spices and brett. Taste is of funky brett notes with spices, cloves, and light yeast into the spiced finish.
3.6 With Z, a bomber, pour a rusty golden yellow color with a white head. Nose is spicy, yeasty with brett . Taste is spicy with cloves, yeast and brett. A dry, moderately long acidic finish . Quaff Score 7 / 10
4.3 Rating #1227 09.08.2014 - Bottle from CBI Pours a hazy straw colour with a frothy white head and lots of lace. Aroma is huge brett funk - Clean mouthfeel, medium carbonation, mild alcohol warmth. Taste is a crisp sweetness, tempered with herbal notes, mild pepperiness, and a healthy blast of brett. Great saison. Unreal aroma and depth of character.
4.8 Excellent take on the style. The aroma is mostly caramel malt with some fruit and a hint of barn. Flavor is bittersour, with a little sweet and citrus in the back. Body is softish. Easy drinking. Damn fine product.
3.9 Golden body, lightly cloudy. Medium white head. Funky aromas, haye, some citrus notes and spicies. Flavour of Belgian yeast, lots of different spices, hay, light citrus notes. I really like it. I don't get all the complexity though.
3.7 Bought from Buffalo, drunk in Toronto. Pours a very cloudy orange-blond with some fluffy white head. Spicy brett nose than leans a little toward the vinegar with a little grape and grassy malt. Taste is a spicy brett, with flavours of pepper, mild vinegar tang, and a hay malt. Overall a very nice beer, but it’s picante-y nature doesn’t lend as well to being a sipper, unless you’re in the mood and see it coming.
3.2 22oz from the Bodega. First of all, the head is outrageous. Totally over foamy. The smell is distinct spice saison. Taste is nice. I’d usually have more to say, but I drank this with really spicy Thai food.
2.7 Pours a clear golden with a dull white head. Sour nose. Sour flavor. Just another sour beer.
3.9 65cl bottle, shared with friends. Pours super golden with big white frothy head, perfect appearance. The nose is very lemony and sweet. Very Belgian flavour: the yeast dominates but there’s also an appreciable amount of hops. Some sour notes on the aftertaste, far from a lambic though and very easy going. Medium mouthfeel, slightly over carbonated. Nice saison.
4.0 Clearish golden with a thin foamy white head. Pleasant floral and yeasty funky farmy nose, a dash of lemon pepper and Brett funk. Nice crisp but funky flavor with farm tones, light lemon, touch of hay and pepper. Tastes really authentic and bretty.
4.6 Bomber into a tulip. Pours a cloudy light yellow, with a huge fluffy white head that persists for quite a while. Little lacing. Nose is honey and citrus. Taste is honey, citrus, Belgian yeast notes of clove and banana, and a little earthiness on the finish. Just wonderful. An excellent saison.
4.5 Great aromas of honey and yeast. Light golden hazy can’t see through it. Big spiced saision with dry Brett funk. Finishes quite dry.
3.2 pour pale with a fine white head. light rye light grape, light bitter, medium bodied, with a average carbonation.
3.6 22 oz. bottle. Pours a cloudy amber with a tight white foamy head. Aroma has funk farm and citrus yeast. Taste is mildly bitter and crisp with some citrus spice slight farmyard and pepper. Palate is thin fizzy and crisp.
3.8 Cloudy, golden yellow with a huge white head. Aroma is slightly tart fruit. Flavor is very dry with just a touch of tart sour funk in the finish. Very effervescent, helps balance out the tartness from the yeast. Finishes very dry with just a touch of sour fruit. Wife: 3.8
3.8 Tap, thanks Chase, Bend, gold pour, white head, nose is banana, taste is lemons, zesty, nice
3.8 651 ml. bottle. Pours a medium, fluffy, well retained white head, with some lacing, over a hazy dark gold (SRM 7) body.....nose is Belgian funk, with light barnyard, citrus notes, primarily grapefruit, slight floral honey tones, minimal hops, balance to the Brett.....taste is light toasted cereal, light floral sweetness, hints of citrus, becoming lightly sour, with moderate Belgian Funk, and Brett complexity, finishing with light sourness.....mouth feel, light body, minimal alcohol, minimal creaminess. This is a delightfully complex, yet simple beer. There are a myriad of nuances in both aroma and flavor, none overpowering, all compliment of the Brett. This of course is no where near a standard Saison and really belongs in a special category. BJCP 6/3/10/4/6
3.2 A stronger style of saison. Yeast and wheat throughout, a little bit of clove, and light spice. The alcohol comes through slightly.
3.7 4 oz pour on draft at B Side. Hazy orange with off-white head. Aromas of herbs, light spices, light Brett, citrus. Tastes of citrus fruit and peel, herbs, light Brett. Medium body with a dry finish.
3.7 2014 Borefts..
3.5 Keg at Borefts beer fest day 2 27/09/2014. Bodegraven. Golden / orange coloured pour with a thin white head. Aroma is lovely citrus, grainy ceraeal, pleasure saison yeat, spicy hop. Flavour is composed of orange citrus, little caramel, some funky saison yeast, plastic. Palate is spritzy carbonation, fairly nice dry finish, Lingering orange and spicy hop.
3.9 From the bottle, from the garage because right now it’s perfect temp :) - This one’s a gusher! Hazy golden with plenty of well-sustained white foam. It smells of apricot, wet blankets, lemon. It’s super delicious. Just a bit of bright acidity up front, quickly drying to biscuity flavors and funky sourness characteristic of Brett. I don’t know what to say about the palate, however, it seems a bit thin. The 7% abv adds a touch of warmth. It’s really nice.
4.4 Pours hazy pale gold with two fingers of fluffy loose white head, excellent retention and moderate lacing. (4/5) Nose is moderate to strong Brett funk, citrus, mild honey. (9/10) Taste is mild sweet, moderate to strong bitter, mild peppery spice. (9/10) Medium body, soft carbonation, dry peppery bitter finish. (4/5) Oh my goodness, this is my kind of beast - it’s even named after me! Lovely funky barnyard notes that are pure Belgian all the way. Reminds me of a De Ranke XX or a Goose Island Matilda. Heckuva nice beer. (18/20)
3.8 Hazy yellow golden, big ice cream swirl head with a neat half finger lacing all playing catchup all the way down. Creamy chalky sherbert Brett party on the nose. Neat puff of lemon and chalk on initial taste, tangy middle and a scratch of saison graininess towards the finish. Smooth rolling carbonation. Finishes like a Bretted latte, frothy and evened out bitterness. Linger is easy going lemon cream. Keg, Northern Monk Refectory.
4.1 22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, best before 2015 on the label. Pours slightly hazy bright golden color with a 2-3 finger dense and rocky white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice dense soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of big lemon zest, orange peel, grapefruit, pineapple, peach, pear, apple, pepper, cracker, bread, light honey, hay, straw, grass, musty funk, and herbal/yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/funky/spicy yeast and light-moderate pale malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big lemon zest, orange peel, grapefruit, pineapple, peach, pear, apple, pepper, cracker, bread, light honey, hay, straw, grass, musty funk, and herbal/yeast earthiness. Good amount of earthy yeast spiciness and light tartness on the finish; with lingering notes of lemon/orange zest, grapefruit, pineapple, peach, pear, apple, pepper, bread, light honey, hay, straw, grass, musty funk, and herbal/yeast earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice complexity and balance of fruity/funky/spicy yeast and light-moderate pale malt flavors; with a crisp malt/yeast flavor balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium-high carbonation and medium bodied; with a very smooth, crisp, and slightly acidic/creamy mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent Brett saison style. All around great complexity and balance of fruity/funky/spicy yeast and light-moderate pale malt flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A very enjoyable offering.
3.9 Bottle- pours hazy grapefruit juice, bright white frothy head that's thick with lacing on the glass. Nose is Brett, wet horse blanket, bright citrus hops and some fresh tones of spearmint. Heavier bodied, Brett funky flavors, some sourness, fresh and clean. A great funky saison that's got some heft. Nice beer
