Evil Twin Yin

Evil Twin Yin

English Language Label: This is one half of a Black & Tan. Not just any Black & Tan, but one where a toasted smug and hoppy fella get together to make a sublime Taiji balance. Mix the Yin & Yang together (or enjoy this profoundly evil Imperial Stout solo).

3.9 Been there, Done that. Exceptionally glad to be doing it again. Like a Seinfeld marathon; Familiar yet sensational.
4.7 Opaque black color as usual with a creamy slow settling head of light brown foam. Has a complex aroma and flavor profile. There is smoke, raw cocoa, some iced black coffee, and dark berries in the mimimum. A bold stout that I look forward to mixing with its counterpart Yang.
3.9 Dégustée le 2017-10-02. .
3.8 Deep copper, fine bubbles, towering and persistent head. Boozy nose. Full body, dense flavor, abundant carbonation, silky and hot mouthfeel, long aftertaste. Intensely bitter dominating the moderately sweet background, dry finish. Dark roast flavors, coffee, coffee, coffee. Powerful, wakes you up before it puts you to sleep.
3.5 Pours a black color. Whoa. About one finger brown head. Good lacing. Aroma is lots of dark berries. Light chocolate, medium coffee. Dark fruit. Dark roasted malt. Taste is berries, lots of dark fruit. Licorice. Light chocolate, medium coffee. Toffee. Pretty bitter, and strong. Mouthfeel is full, very heavy. Alcohol is hard to detect. Bitter, but smooth. Overall, it's big, but it's good. I'd drink it again, I'd buy it again.
3.3 Pours near black with a moderate tan head. the nose is surprisingly low on chocolate or coffee roast notes and is mostly modest hops and a touch of dark fruit and caramel. Mouth feel is surprisingly thin for the style with a blend of coffee, plums, dark chocolate, bittering hops, and a little alcohol forming the flavor. Finish is quick and slightly sticky. A good beer but honestly not as good as I had hoped for
4.0 Bottle a black colored beer with a white-off head aroma roasted malts spicy citrus fruits coffee chocolate mocha spicy some laurel and hops flavor roasted malts citrus fruits dried fruits caramel mocha chocolate coffee spicy and bitter hops
4.7 12 oz can from the Yin and Yang four pack at Liberty Beer in Pittsburgh. a beautiful, complex and sublime beer made all the better for the concept of Taiji which warmed my heart. Served by itself without mixing for a yin and yang. Thank you Evil Twin Brewing.
4.0 Black with a big dark mocha head. Aroma has lots of coffee, chocolate, and sweet dark caramel. Taste vey roasty, dark chocolate, espresso, caulk, full but nor sweet, with some warming alcohol down the throat, but not much. Very nice RIS
3.8 Black with medium brown head. Aroma is vanilla coffee chocolate cocoa slight fish. Taste is bitter roast malt coffee and only a hint of sweet vanilla. Long bitter finish of coffee. Oily and rather harsh. Still good.
2.9 Backlog ocena przepisana w ramach uzupełnienia profilu. Szkoda wspominać. Gwoździe z puszki.
3.7 Aroma of coffee, roasted malt, and a hint of licorice. Pours a dark black with a thick well laced head. Moderate carbonation, with a thick dry mouth feel. Taste is bitter chocolate with notes of malt and vanilla. A bitter malt finish.
3.8 12 ounce can. Opaque black color topped by a moderate frothy tan head. Mild roasted malt nose hints at charcoal and espresso. Rich, creamy roasted malt flavor. Bittersweet chocolate, espresso and resiny hops. Smooth and drinkable, though warming alcohol comes through in finish.

4.0 (Evil Twin Yin) Bottle 355ml at home, served into a snifter, ABV 10% Totally black colour on the body, tall and thick dark brown head but with low retention. Aroma of roasted malts, some liquorice, plenty of chocolate. Taste follows, liquoruice, roasted malts, coal, some peat too in there, chocolate, well hidden alcohol. Medium thick body with good carbonation, quite dry on the palate.
4.0 Bottle from BottleDog, London, and shared at Dan’s. Pours black with a small beige head. Aroma of liquorice, chocolate, roasted malt, dark fruit, and molasses. Medium to heavy sweetness, light roasted bitterness. Full bodied, slick texture, average carbonation.
4.1 Pours black with brown head. A smoky and roasted malt aroma. A smoky taste with chocolate, roasted malts and some dark fruits. A lingering bitter roasted malt aftertaste.
4.1 Kinda bummed to find out Yin and Yang don’t balance out, since Yin’s a much better stout than Yang is a DIPA. Not that bummed, though, because drinking Yin’s a pretty damn nice thing to do. Massive amounts of roasted malt and chocolate sit atop a bitter, dark roast finish. Sweet cocoa, raisin and anise are rounded out by a firm but manageable bitter finish, and the fade is pure sweet Imperial Stout goodness. Not quite the looker as its brother, but the nose is spot-on, and the alcohol’s an afterthought. Tasty. Tastier when mixed. Not sure why, but I’m just gonna accept the mystery on this one.
4.0 Can. Pitch black pour with brown head. Aroma has deep chocolate and coffee notes. Taste has significant bitter notes. Fresh and with only hints of the high ABV. High carbonation
3.9 Can from Wine Warehouse. Pours black with a large dark brown head. Aroma is dark chocolate, earth, tobacco, leather. Flavor is leather, earth, dark chocolate, tobacco, a hint of smoke, vanilla, perhaps some dark fruit. Tasty!
3.2 Keg, cask, London center. Pours black and opaque with a thin tan head residing to a rim. Scent is medium dense notes of tobacco Stout with notes of caramel. Taste is consistent with light notes of wood and cherry. Finish is light sticky and a bit simple for my expectations. Very good.
3.9 butelka. czarne, klarowne, nieprzejrzyste, drobny krążek brudnobiałej piany. w aromacie palone, czekoladowe, wyczuwalna kawa zbożowa, lekki alkohol. w smaku wytrawne, goryczka palona, krótko pozostająca na podniebieniu. nasycenie niskie.
4.2 Aroma: Medium aroma of malts, caramel, dark fruit, chocolate, molasses, mocha, roasted malts and coffee. Appearance: Opaque black beer with a slight/medium brown/dark brown head. Taste/Palate: Starts medium/heavy sweet with malts, caramel, dark fruit, chocolate, molasses and mocha; ends slightly bitter and dry with roasted malts and coffee. Overall: This beer is intense, complex and balanced. A super roasted beer with loads of coffee. The start of this beer is mildly sweet with a bit of dark fruit and chocolate, bit even here the burned flavour of the molasses shine through. The aroma could have been stronger and the palate thicker, but the flavour is amazing and the appearance is perfect.
3.7 Cocoa, roasted notes, black with a good tan head, medium body, low carbonation, a bit oily, again roasted notes and a strong bitter final...good but, for me, quite boring.
4.0 Bready coffee, very cozy, hint of smoke?, light-med roasted bitterness, very smooth and drinkable.
3.7 Deep dark brown coloured body with a thinnish, fast-dying tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, oatmeal, alcohol, cereal and a good dose of lactose. Medium to Full-bodied; Strong roasty flavour with a lot of oatmeal and grain noticeable, coupled with some light chocolate, a touch of coffee, earth and a nutty flavour that has some alcohol warmth, but pretty well hidden at 10% abv. Aftertaste shows some chocolate and deep malty flavours and a bit of nuts, but a mellow and uninspired complexity for sure. Overall, a good beer, but not great, nor a must-have, but as an Imperial Stout, if you love the style, then worth trying, otherwise, probably a waste of liver capacity or money, as there are better options. I preferred this one compared to the Yang, in their respective styles. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from the Crystal City Wine Shop in Arlington, Virginia (20th Street Location) on 12-December-2014 for US$3,89 sampled at home in Washington on 05-February-2017, alongside the Evil Twin Yang in a horizontal tasting.
3.7 Pours black with a small, non-dense tan head. Nose is roasted coffee, cocoa, soy souce, some smoke and alcohol are also there. Taste begins bitter, with notes of coffee liquor-like alcohol, cocoa nibs and smoked wood. It ends with a slightly burnt flavour and a boozy kick. Full bodied, oily, low carbonation. Bitter, malty finish. Very good.

3.7 355ml bottle from Bliznetsy in Moscow. Pours pitch black with a small tan head. Aroma is sark chocolate, peat, roastiness. Taste is black coffee, slighlty sweet and lots of bitterness.
4.1 Bottle to tulip - pours spent motor oil, cappuccino head, thin and elusive. Aroma of dark roast coffee, leather, cocoa and vanilla...Perhaps smoke and dark fruit. Medium body and carb. Flavor is coffee, chocolate covered cherry, bittersweet chocolate, cocoa powder and a plum finish. Excellent.
