3.3 03/12/2016 @home - 33cl bottle from the brewery. Dark brown, beige head. Nose is malty, yeast, licorice. Taste is malts, caramel, licorice, yeast.

3.3 F: big, off-white, average retention. C: ruby red, clear. A: malt, bread, strawberries, cherries, chocolate, yeast, herbs, liquorice. T: malt, caramel, dark bread, hint of chocolate, toffee, light spicy, metallic notes, medium body, average carbonation, ok Dubbel, 0,33l bottle from Carrefour in Brussels.

4.5 Nez légèrement épicé mais doux, belle longueur en bouche. Robe foncée et soutenue. Belle mousse assez généreuse. Ample et ronde en bouche. Une de mes brunes préférées

3.3 A long lasting foam Grape, caramel, a bit sweet aroma Grape flavour, but not much sweet finish Fruity and stable body but still keeping dry finish. Fine balance.

2.8 3/12/2011 9:58:48 PM Bottle from the supermarket. Amber body with big head. Nose is malty and spicy. Taste also with some sweeter elements. But quite thin all around. Not distinctive.

3.9 Bottle 33cl. Clear but deep ruby brown color, nice two finger beige creamy head, diminishing slowly till thin layer with yeast islets remains, good lacing; quite complex aroma, dark malts, dried fruits (dates, raisins), caramel, plums, wine gums, wet leaves, ginger and cinnamon notes; taste light heavy to medium sweet, slightly bitter, dark fruits, toffee, light ginger and pepper; full to medium bodied, creamy texture, average carbonation, in the sweet (but not sugary) aftertaste some light bitterness joins in, ginger and pepper notes, bit of wood; very nice Dubbel indeed.

3.5 Dunkelbraunes Bier mit viel hellem Schaum. Malzig, leicht süß und etwas sauer. Nur wenig Hopfen.

3.1 Bottle - Vintage 1999 - Dark maple syrup and toffee. Cloudy a,beer with a decent beige head. Plum, apple and a light finish. Touch so sourness, but OK.

2.7 250mL bottle, best before 2001 (yeah, that’s right). Pours a cloudy reddish brown with a small beige head. Aroma is oxidized, but there is still some dark fruit, and a little sourness. Flavour is quite tart and fairly oxidized, but this isn’t actually half bad considering how old it is - dark fruits, total absence of bitterness, and a touch of acidity. Would have probably been decent when fresh, but it’s a pretty unique experience as is. Can’t exactly say it’s good, but it’s not undrinkable.

3.1 Bue à la pression. Brune bien foncée. Arômes de caramel, un peu grillé. Puis pas mal de sucre. Peu d'amertume. Alcool bien présent quand même. Dans la moyenne.

3.0 Bue à la pression en 25cl au Kilarney à Besançon, couleur brune avec des gros reflets ambrées, peu de mousse et effervescence moyenne. Une bière avec un nez floral et grillé. En bouche attaque sur le grillé et sur la fraicheur de la réglisse, puis deuxième bouche sur le sucre un peu écoeurante mais pas mauvaise.

3.4 Poured a reddish brown amber with a light cream brown head. Nose is spicy with autumn leafs. Body is medium, carbon high, texture thin. Taste is sweet. Palate gives some caramel, honey, metal and medicine. Sweet aftertaste. B@H

3.0 Flaske, delt med Ovesen mens vørteren kjølner: klar, dyp brunrød med fint offwhite skum. Mer bær og mindre mørk sjokoladesnop enn det jeg forbinder med stilen, men absolutt konsumeringsverdig. God uten å være minneverdig.

3.0 Bottle shared with JMD at HNB 02.04.15. Dark copper. Foamy and dense head and lacing. Aroma of medium dark malt, dark berries, herbs and Jägermeister. Similar taste.

3.7 Nice pour - deep brown, with a respectable tan head and lacing. Full, fresh, countryside Belgian brew aroma. Taste is pretty nice, maybe a little dull, but I might be influenced by this chocolate pairing (I find the beer didn’t stand up well to dark chocolate truffle). Overall it’s a pretty nice version of the style.

3.9 Deep amber colour, generous and thick head, misty, turbulent perlage. Wonderful aroma, fresh, malty, porto wine notes, analogies with a barley wine aroma. Good malty body, less strong that the strength may suggest, good balance and good palate, not too much aromatic.

3.7 Aroma is moderately malty (cookie, caramel), lightly hoppy (flowers, herbs), lightly yeasty (cobwebs), with notes of coriander, tangerine, licorice, clove, and brown sugar. Flavor is moderately sweet, moderately acidic, moderately bitter. Finish is moderately bitter, moderately acidic.

1.4 Bière double de 7,5 % abv. Couleur roux foncé. Clarté nette. Bulles moyennes très peu nombreuses. Mousse beige caramel qui tombe vite. Arômes de candi à pleins poumons, malt cara. 1ère bouche douce, sur du malt cara, du caramel, et du candi (le sac est tombé dedans …). Arrière-bouche de friandise pour gosse. 2ème avec un peu d’herbes sur le candi, mais encore plus de candi sur l’herbe … Arrière-bouche doucereuse, sans aucune complexité. 3ème avec une légère pointe de genièvre, et du malt légèrement torréfié, en plus du cara. Arrière-bouche un rien plus construite, mais banale. La longueur est une descente (aux enfers??). Aucune nuance fine. Goût fade, sans ampleur. Les jambes sont grasses et disparates. La levure est plus que ténue. L’alcool est banal (issime). La finale est au ras des pâquerettes. CONCLUSION : bière bien triste pour cette belle région des Fagnes. Mieux vaut y aller faire une rando que de boire une bière brune (artisanale!!) du coin...

3.1 Fagnes’ second, with a thick, beige, moussy, irregular, stable head and very dark burgundy colour, clear. Malty aroma of bread, caramel, chocolate, plums, orange, strawberry, straw, flowers, coriander and subtle liquorice. Malty, dark fruity and bready taste, sweet but not sugary, light sourishness, low hop bitterness in the finish. Okay dubbel.

3.2 75cl bottle shared with 2 friends. Thin off white head. Clear brown pour. A decent brown. .

2.7 Drunk at Nivelles athletics stadium. Dark abbey ale, slightly sweet but pleasant.

3.2 Brown with rich light yellow head. Good proportion of sweet-sour-bitter, but not lasting too long. some malty bitterness afterwards.

2.3 Ik vond dit bier een beetje tegenvallen. Ik had er veel meer van verwacht aangezien het een donker bier is.

3.1 Dark red brown colour. Aroma and flavour have sweet dark malts and a bit of dried fruit. Pleasant.

3.4 Pours a dark brown body with a thick head. Very faint aroma. Malty taste with tones of toffee.

3.4 Pours Brown with a low tan head. Aromas of caramel, honey, muscovado sugar, raisins. Very sweet on the nose. Taste is caramel, muscovado sugar, ripe apple, raisins. Mouthfeel is smooth and somewhat sticky with medium carbonation.

2.7 Brune caramel transludice avec un peu de mousse qui tombe rapidement. Nez malt et sucre candy. Pas d’amertume, sucrée, malt et caramel. Bof bof...

2.8 Draught at source under the mill, 01V2014. No nose. Traditional silky fruit sirup on brown bread basket: plum, caramels, liquorice. Redeeming dry roast. Mid-heavy mouthfeel. Fine enough, just one to ground its sipper in rural traditions and fairgrounds where fast and cheap unctuosity still present a sugary treat, not to uplift him out of the deep pockets he has travelled to.
