Fantôme Chocolat

Fantôme Chocolat

A Belgian ’saison-style’ ale brewed with cocoa powder and chili pepper? Ay, Caramba! Score another first for the unpredictable brewery that was the first -- and so far the only - brewery to make ales out of dandelions and mushrooms, among other things.

3.6 Nice complex aroma with chocolate, floral, bubble gum, overripe. Fruitiness. Well balanced, enjoyable
3.6 Heavy yeast, some sourness and maltiness. Could be more full flavoured. Not bad, but still lacks something.
3.2 Is there any reason to ruin saison with chocolate, someone thihs there is. We disagree
3.6 Clear, copper colour with a foamy, light tan head. Aroma is hoppy, grass, apple, some malts, yeast. Taste has light bitterness in the beginning, hint of cocoa in middle, saison yeast, light malts. Medium body, low medium carbonation, soft and airy mouthfeel. Ok but the cocoa is really strange here!
4.0 Opaque amber/orange beer with heavy yeast and with a medium off-white/beige head. Medium aroma with a lot of Saison yeast, fruit and maybe a slight trace of the added chocolate. Taste is the same, but stronger, with a great palate.
3.6 Bottle, 750 ml, shared with JFK10000, Max, Simon. Pours hazy orange, huge white head. Yeasty, spicy, pepper in nose, some citrus notes, moderate sourness. Couldn't really get the chocolate. Unusual. Medium bodied.
3.6 75cl bottle courtesy of Erzengel! A slightly hazy golden beer with a small off-white head. Aroma of tart fruits, yeast, yellow fruits. Taste soft tart fruits, brett, wood, herbs, limen, nice!
3.4 Säuerlicher, leicht hefiger Antrunk. Eher trocken, helle Malznoten, trocken hefig. Minimal bitterer, rund hefiger Nachhall. 9/10/11/11/10/11
3.5 Tap @Luppolo Station (Rome). Cloudy amber pour, irregular off-white foam. Nose: esters, spicy, sweet almond cookies, zest. Mouth: refreshing, cocoa and chili are hidden but you can spot them right away if you know it. Round start, confusing finish but quite interesting.
3.6 Cooled for 48hours prior to opening. Opens with a slight bang but no gushing lucky 😉. It hits you with bready malts, rich esters, faint spices, tabaco, dry saison yeast, little banana, grapefruit. Taste is weird at first with an off blend of spices cacao and a pale ale. But when it coates the mouth it all comes together. Little burnt onions, bit roasty, not crazy spicy but just a little bite. Gets more interesting when warming up. A strange concoction indeed but still somewhat balanced. I must admit I'm always very forgiving when it comes to fantome but this is just good!
3.4 Golden, hazy. malty, herbal, colantro, pepper, phenol, cloves. Bitter, some sourness. Medium body, soft carbonation.
3.8 Piwne Degustacje, Browariat Katowice (10.09.2017) Kolor pomarańczowy. Wysoka, bujna piana. Piana cały czas się utrzymuje. W aromacie owoce cytrusowe, pomarańcze, mandarynki. Z tyłu delikatna czekolada i sproszkowane kakao. Spox.
3.5 Nice look. Bit oxidated, fruity; oranges. Long, tart, spicy finish. Well hidden alcohol.
3.4 Bottle from luvians. Pours hazy orange with some floaters. Nose is orange, mandarin, apricot, this typical belgian Saison smell that reminds me of maracuja Joghurt. Palate is chocolate (how is this not in the nose?), orange, citrus. Bitter finish. Surprisingly light. Weird but good Saison.
3.5 Shared 750ml bottle. Pours pale gold with a bit of haze. Aroma of yeast, fruit, and spice. Tastes more like a Belgian ale or Belgian strong ale than a saison. Cocoa is very faint as is the chili pepper. Interesting.
2.8 Aroma: combination of belgian ale and pale lager; Appearance: clear light amber pour with thin white head that lingers; Taste: follows nose with additional maltiness; not so good; Palate: medium body with medium finish; Overall: not my favorite. Would not get again.
2.8 Backlog. Spicy, earthy, cocoa, white fruits, sauerkraut. Moderate sweet, light sour, light bitter.
3.0 Hazed glowing deep golden color with a fine white head. Looks good and inviting. Fine intensity in the aroma. Medium body and a fine carbonation level. Mild chocolate is dominating the flavor. Aslo some yeast, malty and some spices. Not really exciting. [Bottle from a trade with Inbreak]
3.9 Drinked in bottle. At the nose cereal notes and some yeasty note. A pleasant warmess from alcohol and some spicy like chili. In mouth is medium bodied, very rich and complex. A important caramel sweetness at the beginning and then is quite astringent and very dry. Could be interesting taste it , two or three years old
4.2 Bevuta in bottiglia. Colore arancione tendente all’ambra. In bocca leggero Malto, cioccolato fine e finale piacevolmente secco
3.8 Brus bottle: pours a hazy brownish orange with a large white head. Aroma is mostly the funky yeasts, maybe a hint of pepper. Chocolate is not really in the aroma but vaguely in the taste. Really funky innthe taste. Good body. Complex and interesting, even if the name is sort of misleading.
3.5 Muddy orange of color with a white head. An aroma of yeast, dry, spice and fruits. A flavor of fruits, spice, yeast and dry finish.
3.7 Nice light chili flavor. I do wish the chili flavor was stronger. Chocolate flavor is not very apparent.
2.5 Typical (of Fantome beers) hazy light orange color with huge rocky head. In the nose, some light citrus notes, maybe green chili and strong yeast. Flavor is banyrard funky, peppery, semi-sweet. I did not notice cocoa or chilis? Medium body with natural carbonation.
3.7 Frothy offwhite virtually none head. Virtually none lacing. Mostly diminishing. Flat thick dark brownish-amber body. Aroma: light malty, caramel, citrus orange and lemon, moderate yeasty. Initial flavor: moderate sweet acidic. Final flavor: light sweet moderate acidic light bitter; long duration. Palate: medium body, oily texture, medium carbonation and light astringent and alcoholic finish. dulçor maltado permeado por acidez tradicional de saison. Cacau bem presente no final. 110 s
2.5 750 mL bottle shared by ebone1988 for the damn book. What the hell did I do to you? The pour is a dark orange color with a thicker white head that falls to a thick bubbly ring leaving a bit of lace. The aroma is not terrible. There is a strong Belgian candy and a light chocolate to go with a lingering pepper on the back end. It’s interesting in the complexity, but it’s not overly great at all. The flavor is lacking in everything other than the Belgian yeast. There is a candied yeast and a hint of pepper on the finish, but the chocolate isn’t anywhere to be found. This is bland all around. The mouth feel is a little thicker and almost has no carbonation. The aftertaste is lingeringly yeasty with a touch of heat. This is not a great beer at all.
