3.3 Can. Pours a mahogany body with a small head. Fruity aroma with brown sugar. Taste has caramel malts and plenty of dried fruits. Good thick mouthfeel. The 7,7% ABV is well hidden. Well, either this or I have become a drunkard.
3.1 500mL Can. Dark brownish red pour with a potent tan head. Aroma was roast caramel malts, and alcohol. Taste was heavy on roast malts, coffee flavour. Full bodied. Finish is dry and robust, but the alcohol doesnt linger on the palate, a mild spiciness appears.
3.4 500 ml bottle from LCBO, served cold in a tulip glass. App.: Very deep mahogany with a large tan head. Aroma: Some resinous, dank hops, some nice sweet dark dried fruits and caramel/toffee, light chocolate, fairly decent maltiness, slightly nutty, quite fruity, some berries, quite nice, really. Palate: Medium body, moderate effervescence somewhat silky and syrupy. Flav.: Deep, rich malts, lots of caramel/toffee, brown sugar, some molasses, deep, dark dried fruits, light chocolate and coffee, a little green, resinous/dank hops, pretty decent; off-dry with some bitterness and a nice, slightly minty malty finish. A pleasant surprise.
2.9 (can, courtesy of Papsoe) Clear, dark brown colour with a light-brown medium-sized foamy head. Sweet toast-malty aroma with caramel and a touch of cardboard. Sweet-bitter flavour, light to medium bodied with a soft carbonation. Dark malty, slightly nutty taste with notes of caramel; moderately sweet and mildly bitter finish with a slightly papery malt-character. Drinkable, otherwise rather undemanding. 31.X.07
3.0 Good beer. Sweet malt aroma, sweet roasted malt flavours. Pretty cool crisp beer. I will definately drink again.
2.7 (on can) Mahogony color, white head. Small aroma of the malts, small alcoholic lash. Light mouthfeel, roasted. Creamy finish, tad too sweet, considering the low carbonation.
3.9 can. Poured dark brown with a thinning tan head. Light caramel aroma but a bit astringent. Medium body, creamy mouthfeel. Flavour of roasted malt, figs, smoke, and a little coffee. Very enjoyable.
3.0 bread, dark, brown sugar, brown, brown foam, medium sweetness, medium body, syrupy, soft carbonation, astringent, sweet very soft beer. I like the palate in this beer.
2.4 From can. Deep mahogany colour with a decent off white head. Fruity malt aroma. Slight honey hints. Nutty malt flavour. Nice bitterness. This aint to bad by Jesus. Bitter finish. Slightly weird and a little odd but drinkable by Joe.
2.0 THis beer is drinkable. Not very special. Had a 50CL can in Denmark. Bud to call it a nice bockbeer... Not my favorite.
3.4 smells fishy, malty and salty. dark dark amber with a light beige foamy head, taste is nutty like pecans, malty, dark sugar, a little salty, mouthfeel is a little poppy and overcarbonated. this is legendary, nothing better bang for your buck, ever, in any situation, also enjoyable in a wide temperature range.
2.7 500 ml can. From Tallinn, Estonia. Dark brown colour with medium tan head. Aroma is brown sugar, some nuttiness and hints of alcohol. Flavour is sweetish roasted malty, some bitterness and alcohol. Mouthfeel is very enjoyably full and rich.
1.8 flat beer, coke colour, sweet and caramel aroma, taste is sweet malt, alc and maybe some caramel, nothing special, I would never call it a prper bock
3.5 You know, I’m actually enjoying this beer. My wine Guru Steve from my local LCBO was the one who pointed it out, at first I was a bit skeptical because well.......every other faxe beer pretty much sucked. But this is pretty good. I havn’t really had to many Dunkler Bocks, infact, this is the first one I rated, so I don’t really have anything to compare it to. Ok, so it pours a dark mahogany brown with a shortly lived off white head. The aroma is toffee, caramel, a bit of nuttiness, coffee, brown sugar, tap water, and a light metallic note. The flavour is more or less an exact replica of the aroma, with a bitter instant coffee finish. It’s not the cleanest cut beer, its a little too carbonated, the alcohol is a little too prominent, the finish is a little weird tasting, but for the price, its pretty damn good.
3.7 I really enjoyed this beer. Caramel taste with a fuller palate was very enjoyable.
3.1 Can. Dark brown body with a light brown medium head. Malty aroma with light tobacco notes. Soft palate. Sweet malty bit alcoholic taste but with some tobacco and smoke notes. I was surprised by this one.
2.0 Can. Weak malty aroma. Clear dark brown colour with small beige head. Some roasted malt and alcohol in flavour. Drinkable, but not exciting.
2.2 03/11 0.5 l can courtesy of ogivlado, thanks for sharing! New style for me. Poured reddish brown body with medium sized beige head. Coffee, some roasted sugar and notes of alcohol in its aroma. Fake. Sweet industrial malty flavor, with first sip or two being really nasty. Bittersour coffee hiding the alcohol partially, but not enough and not pleasant. Sweetish finish help the beer to be drinkable and at some point after drinking even enjoyable. But, it’s crap anyway.
2.5 Canned(500ml). -trade with faroeviking (thanks Jacob).
Reddish/brown coloured, medium sized off-white head, alcoholic nose. Sweet malty, alcohol and coffee taste but surprisingly unoffensive for Faxe. Drinkable.
2.4 Can ogivlado got in a trade with faroeviking (thanks!), shared with him and heavy. Cola like colour... dark red-brown. Medium to small off white head that went away rather fast. The initial impression isn’t all that nice. Alcohol, caramel malt, roastiness in the nose, but not in a good way. Somewhat weak taste, a touch acidic coffee, alcohol, no hop... got a bit better later on... softer, drinkable, but still not enough to consider it a great beer I’m afraid. I wrote at first ’crappy dunkel with pumped up alcohol’, and it’s not far of but as I said, in the end it wasn’t that bad and I might be underrating it a bit.
2.0 500mL can from the LCBO. Meh, this could be worse. It’s not all the great mind you. Lousy non-existent aroma. Some decent roasty malt flavour, too bad it’s surrounded by crap. Not much to it. Bad tinny finish with some alcohol and a touch of sourness. Almost okay colour of dark amber with a tan head. I’ve been in a bock mood lately, and sadly this is the only new thing the LCBO could offer me. Lame. From this brewery I was expecting worse though. I could see this being a decent party beer that would impress the morons drinking Lakeport.
2.1 Canned sample. Dark red in colour with medium carbonation. Aroma of malt, alcohol, grapenuts cereal, and cooked sugar. Strong malt flavors dominate, with more booze, grape koolaid, black pepper spices, and more cooked/burnt sugar elements. Not as heavy in the body as you’d expect from such a malt forward beer. A bit EKU 28-like. Not a fan though.
3.0 [Bottle from Ivan.] Sweet, but not too sweet for the style. Dark sweet nutnotes. Thirstquencing and dangerous slammerbeer.
3.4 Can 50 cl. Nice looking beige large bubbly head that mostly lasted. Fair display of lacework. Somewhat cloudy looking dark amber color. Aroma was nice mild roasted malt, nutty, brown sugar, toffee, rye bread. Over the palate came mild counter hoppy feel. Quite nice. Medium to full bodied with an average carbonation and mild alcoholic and thick texture. Moderated to heavy sweet flavor with mild bitterness. Somewhat lingering sweet roasted malty finish.
2.9 Can. Dark brown colour with medium creamy off-white mostly lasting head. Malty aroma. Sweet spicy flavor.
3.3 Re-rate: Still good, big mostly lasting head. Jun 8,2008: Can 50cl, Fakta. Pours a dark brown reddish body, with a medium creamy light brown head (almost looks like cola). Sweet, roasted malty with hints of brown sugar and caramel. 6-4-6-3-14
2.7 Can. Thanks to JensenTaster. Pours amber/brown with a off white creamy & bubbly head. Aroma is mild - caramel & bread. A bit of sweetness. Slightly ashy & roasted flavor. Warmth from alcohol. Best product from brewery yet!
2.6 Dark brown with a small white head. Weak aroma of bready malt. Medium dry flavour of malt, with a strong alcohol note.
2.8 50cl can, fakta (i think) sweet aroma that i could pick up from a distance after pouring. dark reddish-brown, clear, small white-brown head with fine bubbels. Taste is good, but overwhelmed by way too much alc. the total experience is quite frightening (not good). brown suger, malty notes, if i ignore the too dominant alc. taste, the rest of the flavor is very good. Did they add alc. to get it to 7.7? if so, a shame. Average palate. Overall i get the feeling someone poured voka in an otherwise great beer.
3.7 500ml. can bought at the SAQ A: nice reddish-brown colour with a nice beige head, good head retention. S: very malty, some green apples, nice equilibrium, doesn’t seems too sweet. T: nice clean round taste, some swetness helps balance, some hops, good beer. M: round D: Nice doppelbock, perfect winter brew
