3.4 Aroma: Sweet Pumpkins, Nutmeg, Mildly Boozy Appearance: Amber/Orangish Hue, Passes Some Light, White Head Ring, Mild Lacing Taste: Sweet Potatoes, Nutmeg, Mild Cinnamon Mouthfeel: Decent Carbonation, Medium Bodied, Mildly Boozy
3.1 Golden-amber colored body, not much in the way of a head or lacing. Pumpkin, nutmeg, allspice. Straight forward pumpkin beer. Medium bodied, light sweetness, a bit of booze, gentle carbonation, spice is a bit grating towards the end.
3.5 Draft. Pours amber with an off white head. Medium sweetness, pumpkin spices, and a hint of booze. Nothing special, but enjoyable nonetheless.
3.6 Bottle - from sampler pack. Amber-copper color, cloudy. Smells of a combination of pumpkin pie and alcohol. That’s pretty much how it tastes, too. Pretty good.
3.5 Bottle. Pours a copper color with a light tan head. Very strong aroma of cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice. Very pumpkin like I guess. Potpourri like. Medium mouthfeel. Sweet and spicy like. A little boozy. I’m not the biggest pumpkin fan as I prefer to eat it than drink it but this tastes like pumpin pie...with booze.
3.8 Aroma Is light apple, cinnamon. Cloudy Orange color. Taste is pumpkin, sweet potato, apple, Light carbonation. A good pumpkin ale. -----------------------------Values Updated after Pumpkin Beer Comparison. -#3 of 8 in Pumpkin Beer Evaluation.-Double Blind Evaluation of 8 2013 Pumpkin Beers: 1-Weyerbacher Imperial Pumkin Ale; 2-Dogfishead Punkin Ale; 3-Fegleys Devious Imperial Pumpkin; 4-Southern Tier Pumking; 5-Terrapin Pumpkinfest; 6-Rogue Pumpkin Patch Ale; 7-Shipyard Pumpkin Ale; 8-Big Muddy Brewing Pumpkin2014 Pumpkin Double Blind Tasting:1-Sam Adams Fat Jack.2-Hoppin? 3.5 Amber flame body, low carbonation and a wee ring of head. Hearty pumpkin spice nose that is heavy on the cinnamon and with distinct ginger trails across natural pumpkin flavor that mostly cloaking the alcohol. Luscious pumpkin flesh flavor with mulled pumpkin spices, cinnamon being the most prominent. This is a powerful brew, yet the spice and pumpkin keep the heaviness at bay. This one floats into dangerously drinkable territory. Re-rated 10-27-17: Similar experience this time around as well. Excellent pumpkin brew with a delicious roasty pumpkin at the core off of which the spices pleasingly dance off.
3.4 Clear copper color with a disappearing off white head. Alcohol and spice nose. Lots of brown sugar and honey sweetness with some coarse bread, pie crust and pie spices. More alcohol than spice, but still a fun, boozy seasonal.
3.7 Bottle. Clear deep ruby amber color, bright white head, a beautiful beer. Aroma of gourd! more than spice, for a change. Taste is smooth and lightly spiced. Good stuff.
3.2 Orange pour with lots of pumpkin and all spice on the nose. Toasted notes, sweet with a bit of a thin body. Love it for the local kick but not the best that I have had of the style
4.3 Poured a dark orange/amber with no head. Aroma of pumpkin pie spices with a mingling of hops. Very smooth on the tongue with an explosion of sweet pumpkin and spicy cloves and nutmeg. Extremely refreshing and a damned tasty imperial pumpkin!
3.1 750 ml bottle split with the wife last night while she watch Vampire Diaries and while I tried to get buzzed quick. pours orange with a quick fizz head. nose of ginger and earth, slight gourd. taste follows the chaos with some wet grain. body is light, but gets chewy and nealy near the finish.
2.7 Draft at Khyber Pass. Clear coppery pour. Rotted pumpkin. Watery. Not a big fan of pumpkin beer at all but this one is not working for me at all.
3.0 12 ounce bottle. Thanks Brenton! Pours a golden orange with a small off-white head. Aroma of spice and pumpkin. Taste is cinnamon, nutmeg, pumpkin, and vanilla. Typical pumpkin beer.
4.0 On tap sampler, Unos. Brilliant fall spice notes of cinnamon nutmeg ginger over toaster malts and clean hops. A clear crisp copper asker with a hint of apple on the finish.
2.6 Not a fan. Overly spiced for my palate. Pours orange with little head. Taste is very spicy with alcohol burn.
3.7 Ar: Cinnamon, clove, and sweet caramel - a bit of mint, too. Ap: Clear orange with a small off-white head with moderate retention - ring of sudsy foam remains. T: Lots of spicy cinnamon and clove up front, moderate sweetness - deep toasted malt and roasted caramels - spicy clean alcohol, with moderate warming sensation - low bitterness, with some moss and spice - finish is lingering clove. P: Medium-full body with high carbonation - finish is medium-dry. O: This big pumpkin ale is nicely spiced, definitely favoring the clove - the deep, full, and rich malty notes (rather than a simple caramel character) really shine - very good!
4.1 Pours a hazy brownish orange color from a 12oz. bottle. There was a very slight of whitish head that quickly dissapated. Aroma smells just like pumpkin pie. Taste is similar to pumpkin pie with a sweet and pumpkin pie flavor. You can taste the alcohol in this brew at the end where it gives you a little warmth. Overall this is one of the best imperial pumpkin ales I’ve had. Personally I like the alcohol taste of these bigger beers at the end and the pumkin pie flavor up front is very nice if that’s your thing. I would definitely recommend this beer to fans of imperial pumpkin ales.
4.0 Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a dark caramel color with a medium sized foamy orange-brown head that left decent lacing. The aroma was sweet caramel, nutmeg, cinnamon and bread. The flavor was sweet sugar, caramel, bread, strong nutmeg, moderate cinnamon and clove and reminded me overall of pecan pie filling. Long sweet sugar and caramel finish with lingering nutmeg, cinnamon and clove. Moderately full bodied. Well done.
3.5 Bottle. Pours dark copper and red with a small orangey/beige head. Aromas of cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla, with some apple pie and graham cracker. The flavor is cinnamon, nutmeg, apple and pumpkin, and alcohol. Burnt caramel and toffee, as well as brown sugar, dominate the finish. Mild carbonation, warming. Gneiss. [1141]
3.5 thanks to Owen for the beer Orange red color with an off white persistent heard that finally turned to a ringed collar. Spice forward nose. Pumpkin spices with vanilla, all spice, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Slight notes of booze in the nose. Spices with some some pumpkin the the taste and body. Does get more booze forward as drink on. Solid spice driven feel. One dimensional but good for the style. Probably better with age.
1.6 OK, so waht, this is 4 months past its prime, big ass deal, its 9%. Any beer with such a high % has to age nicely or its not a good beer, there ya have it. So, its a punkin and its high alky so I’m not expecting much. In my harley mug (from iceland) it smells sweet but not cloying...yet. Brownish color with lots of visible co2, does not look viscous like so many high alky brews. Sweet but not appreciative pumpkin flavors and spice, a little bit of heat going down the gullet. That bottle has absolutely npo sediment. Clear and iced tea incolor. Darker iced tea. Yes, each swig is big nasty sweet high alky pumky thing. Not sure if its really punkin or if its pumpkin spice. Finish is nasty cough medicine. Typical imperial pumpkin beer. What is so attractive about these high alky beers, I’ll never know, I’m mean no.
3.3 On tap at Capone’s Restaurant. Amber coloured body with a little head; a lace sheet. Very pumpkiny. Spice up front, including lots of salt and coriander.
3.2 No bottling information. Appearance: The body is a very interesting color, it’s an ugly opaque mix of mahogany and orange that just doesn’t look appealing. There is almost no head and the head has poor retention and dissipates in just a thin tan ring. Aroma: Aromas of pumpkin, ginger, nutmeg, and cinnamon with some graham cracker crust hints. As the beer warms up I pick up some fruity hints, interesting. Taste: This is rich with strong flavors of malt sweetness with pumpkin, various spices, graham cracker crust, and there’s some dark fruits on the finish. Palate: Thick and somewhat syrupy, light carbonation. Overall: This is okay, but by now I’m rather sick of pumpkin beers. This doesn’t stand out and is pricey compared to other offerings.
2.4 Bottle. Nose dominated by pumpkin spice, cinnamon and vanilla on the low end. Bright but lightly hazy blood red body with a lining of orange and a quickly-gone tan head. Crisp taste with a little yeast and medium bitterness (wha?), weak slippery malt and hot booze, spices are intense but separated from the main. Medium body, lighter allspice and nutmeg, way way too much clove, and I’ll pass.
3.7 Soft yet sweet spicy; Flava is rich and sweet with pumpkin and spice notes; feels medium-full with some fizz zinginess; or is that my buzz kickin in?; finish is long Nd sweet with nots of alcohol; appear deep amber with rimming off-white head.
2.4 Had fresh from bottle. Relatively pleasing aroma and appearance, but this beer has way too much clove flavor, which also seems to conflict with the flavor of the hops. This is one of the worst Imperial Pumpkins I’ve tasted, which is disappointing, as Fegley’s has some good brews.
2.8 This poured a darker orange to red color with a beige head. Aroma was of caramel, lots of clove, and toasted malt. Flavor had way too much clove, light beer notes in the back. Not much of a true pumpkin beer at all.
3.5 (bottle). Beautiful deep orange amber complexion. Pumpkin aroma with some nutmeg. Flavor is pumpkin, alcohol, nutmeg and clove.
1.0 Big head initially, but poor head retention. Okay aroma for a pumpkin ale, though a slight rubbing alcohol smell. The taste was way too strong on clove. Overall it had a horrible flavor that was so bad I could not finish the glass. The beer itself was poor, but the excessive clove flavor made it unbearable.
