3.2 Draft->mini lager at RFD. Murky orange-amber with small white head. Buddy at the bar remarked that it looks like unicorn ejaculate. I will try to not let that negatively influence my review, but damn. Citrus and floral hops, grass, resin, toasted malt. Bit of a mess, really.
2.2 I had this at the hotel bar in Naperville. Pours orangish with a off white head. Taste bitter, citrus. I thought this was bad. I wouldn't drink this again.
3.0 From the 1 pint can. The pour is orange-amber with a slight cloudiness that could be connected to a chill haze. The nose begins with roasted pale malts, orange, and a modest piney and floral hop scent. Light to medium body. The taste evolves from a creamy sort of malty and orange character into a full bitter finish.
2.7 Earthy, pine hop, sugar and soap. Nearly cleat orange, fine haze. Malt sweetness up front, dull bitter finish. Kind of on the watery side, no hop bite to speak of, which is the main reason I’m disappointed here. APA’s shouldn’t be so soft.
3.4 A: Hazy Amber/Golden Straw Hue, Passes Mild Light, Light Off White Head Ring, Mild Lacing S: Sweet Malts, Mild Piney T: Sweet Malts, Bready, Piney M: Average Carbonation, Medium Bodied, Mildly Sweet, Mildly Drying Overall, an average pale ale with a heavy malt base. Drinkable but not a chaser.
3.5 10/28/2013. From can. Pours clear amber color with a white head. Fruity aromas with caramel, malt and spice. Citrus flavors with caramel and hops. Bitter finish.
3.7 Draft at Milk Boy. Hazy medium-dark orange with a notable frothy head. Big earthy hops. Pinecones. Strong grassy hops. Grapefruit pith. Honey violins. Strong but good.
3.7 Pale orange hue. Small head. Nice floral hop aroma, highlighted by tangerine sweetness. Slightly watery up front, missing something. Malt comes in solidly though, dry and toasty. A bit of rye-like spice. Hops are in there too, playing well with the malt and waiting patiently for their turn. Orange juice like hop flavor in the back. Not much bitterness until the finish where it starts to increase and linger. Really quite drinkable and enjoyable.
2.9 16oz can. Pours a medium golden with very little white head that doesn’t stick around. It’s not horrible but pretty bland overall. Below average pale ale.
2.8 Not much too be excited about beginning middle or end. Hop finish is pretty bitter for the amount (lack of) flavor.
3.4 1 pint can. Mine says 5.6% ABV. A cloudy amber/rust pour with a smallish beige head. Plenty of earthy graininess in the aroma along with some caramel, biscuits, grapefruits, citrus rinds, and some resiny pine. Medium-bodied. The taste starts with a little caramel and a good deal of earthy grains. Some juicy citrus fruits and rinds follow. There is a strangely interesting orange tang at the end. A dusting of spice. Slightly musty/funky. Bitter and resiny. Not bad.
3.0 can, which regardless of what people say, i think beer tastes different from a can. Not too much aroma, nice carbonated body, nice zip. has a decent citrus hop taste, some hidden caramel malts, not to bad.
2.6 Where and how: can Virginia Beach Aroma caramel, not super clean. Sugary with hop notes. Ok but not very inspiring. Late citrus shown. Appearance: Top: lighter beige cap. Base: murky amber. Palate : medium bodied, bit astringent. Taste: slight nutty with caramel sugars, hinted with black soil. Noted lemon grass, ending with black tea.
3.0 Draft to taster. Looks solid; a transparent pale copper with foamy white head. Smells of pale malt with notes of hops and mild soap. Tastes like it smells with an average mouthfeel. An underwhelming example of the style.
4.2 Can. Nice, earthy pour ... a hazy, orange-copper beer, the head is thin but firm. The aroma is solid all the way around ... full of citrus bloom. This drinks with a musty cover over the top, but fulfills all your desires for an Amerian Pale Ale, ripe with citric sting and a well balanced and full body background. (#5193, 8/11/2013)
2.8 Poured from a cold can. Hazy orange color, slight head, slight sediment. Hops and citrus smell. Sweet, citrus sweet taste.
2.7 Can. At first sip it tasted great but the aftertaste is like household cleaner. Not sure why but its got a funky residue.
3.3 Silver tallboy can. Very cloudy, apricot bronze. Lots of malt, caramel and fruit in the aroma. Very drinkable, and not all that hop-assertive. Mouthy, with a long jammy aftertaste. Every now and again there was the resinous pine note, but this brew is more about malt. Thanks to PorterPounder - split one with him over at his place.
3.6 Chattanooga, Tn. - Riverside Wine & Spirits - 16 oz can. Dark auburn pour, medium thick off-white head, nice thick lacing. Aroma has nice piney resiny notes, some floral notes. Flavor has a heavy bittersweet citrusy presence, some caramel sweetness to balance it out, some spearmint notes on the back end. Thickish mouthfeel. Very enjoyable.
3.9 Slightly cloudy bronze and light copper coloured body with a bit of an orange glow and a nice, thick, two centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of alcohol, peaches, light hops, grapefruit, pine and a bit of toffee. Medium-bodied; Strong assertive hoppy notes up front with a thick body and a great balance of malt. Aftertaste shows some good hop characteristics with pleasant assertive alcohol and floral notes and a bit of a kick of pine and grapefruit with plentiful sugars. Overall,a very nice APA with the depth and body of a much higher abv beer than this one - great all the way around, especially from a can. I sampled this 16ounce pint sized can purchased earlier today from Merchant;s in Dearborn, Michigan for US$2.69 sampled today, 02-August-2013 in Grosse Ile, Michigan.
3.1 Total Wine, Fairfax 4-pak: Pours orange with a white head. Aroma is citrus hops. Light malt backbone. Not really all that bitter or hoppy in the taste. Not a remarkable example of the style, but drinkable.
4.2 Great Anerican beer. Good hop taste. Good look and lacing. Good brew. Would recommend as an example of American pale ale.
3.2 Orange pour with clinging white head and lace. Aroma is flat light malt, and some orange zest. Flavor is semi sweet malt, some citrus bitter, and some flat like funk. Not really bad but something. Medium bodied with some foamy carbonation. ok beer 12 oz can
3.2 16oz can. Poured a hazy orange color, medium-large off-white head. Aroma was citrus notes, light caramel malt notes. Flavor was sweet, light hops. Bitterness from the hops. Pretty drinkable.
3.4 Serving: 16 oz. can from State Line Liquors. It pours a cloudy dark orange with a small off white head. The nose has bright notes of citrus and pineapple, brown sugar, and brown bread. The flavor has even balance between the malt and hops. The hops are much more subdued on the tongue than in the nose. There is some earthy bitterness with a touch of citrus. More nuttiness and almost chocolate notes peek through. Light to medium body with a medium finish. Solid flagship brew.
2.9 Pours a golden orange cooper hazy color with a small head. Nose is hoppy with a touch of caramel and malt. Taste is more caramel and malt with mild citrus. Nothing very complex, an average APA, missing the up front citrus. Finish is mildly bitter without any real lingering . Quaff Score 6 / 10
3.0 Pours a dark golden copper with a beige head and aroma of aroma of hops and caramel. Taste is of caramel and malt with hop and citrus coming through in the bitter finish. Drinkable, solid APA but not much more
3.3 On tap in Chicago (Sweetwater). This was my second beer so maybe some carryover effects, but not my ideal brew.
3.2 Subtle orange scent with a blend of malts and hops that make for a nice pale ale. Dry finish on the tongue. Easy drinking pale ale.
3.3 Amber body, thin light tan head. Nose is pine, orange, some medium caramel, honey. Flavor is pine, orange, solid bitterness, honey, nice toffee malt. Bitterness is slightly astringent but not overly so. Lingering bitterness in the finish with a bit too much sweetness fir my tastes. Still, a nice beer.
