Finch Threadless IPA

Finch Threadless IPA

Our Threadless/Finch collaboration IPA is a balanced experience of both perceived hoppiness and true bitterness. It pours a darker amber color and finishes with a citrus flavor, and when combined, will require this to be the last IPA you ever drink! Well, maybe, we realize you will probably drink more, but the result of this recipe clearly evolves into a very balanced IPA. The grain bill on this big pale includes melanoidin and Victory malts. We hop it up before the boil starts with some Columbus first wort hopping, then add a bunch more for bittering.

3.5 Draught @ Barleycorn. Hazy orange with small off-white spongy head, faint hops aroma, low carbonation, lightly hoppy yaste, medium finish. Easy to drink, very smooth
3.7 Crisp and clean. Nice herbaceous quality to the hops, though citrus notes dominate. Relatively light and refreshing.
2.5 This is one of those IPAs that use a signature malt platform, and then let it take over.
3.0 Draft pour. Pours a hazed copper with a white head of foamm. The aroma is papery, it has lemon, angel food cake, some lime. The taste is moderately sweet. No real bitterness. Medium to low bitterness. Kind of a shitty ipa, but I guess if it is old, the beer can’t be held accountable. It just really is not very good.
4.2 Orange hued cloudy body supporting an above average head. Bracingly fresh taste perfumed with grapefruit notes. A fruitier interpretation rather than bitter leaves a tangy aftertaste. Very enjoyable.
4.2 Finch’s Threadless IPA has a medium, creamy, off-white head, an opaque, gold-orange appearance, some noticeable, clinging bubbles, and lacing, top to bottom. Aroma is of flowers, nectar, hop oil, and white bread. Flavor is of sweet, white bread, not so bitter hop bitterness, sugar, and pine oil. Mouthfeel is medium to heavy, and Finch’s Threadless IPA finishes on the dry side and quite drinkable. RJT
3.5 Rated on 01-04-2013 (Can) This beer pours a medium sized smooth off-white head that mostly diminishes, mostly transparent/slightly hazy golden body, slow rising carbonation, and spotty amounts of lacing. The aroma is citrus, earthy hops, fruity, and malt. The flavor is bitter, citrus, earthy hops and malt. The mouthfeel is semi-thick and this beer is medium bodied. This beer has a lingering hoppy aftertaste and is a hop head beer. It is worth trying.
4.5 A huge meringue head. A cloudy orange. This is a nice IPA. Plenty of hops in the body. And a strong bitter dry finish. Great stuff.
3.4 can @ Party Town / Florence KY --- Clear dark amber with a bubbly ivory head, streaks of lace. Taste is malt with a dash of caramel that grows into the palate adding solid citrus hops on the swallow, then moving back toward the malt as the finish fades. A polite but solid IPA.
3.9 Right out of a very cool can in Chicago. Taste is bitter citrus, dough, hops and grain. Excellent IPA.
3.6 Can@ trailer. Clear amber color with ivory head. Nice pine, citrusy, sweet malt aromas. Medium bodied with average co2. Hoppy bitter pine, citrusy, spicy flavors with some lightly sweet pale maltage____drying spicy bitter finish----good.
3.8 A cloudy orange beer with a small white head. The aroma is piney and tropical fruit. The flavor is floral and fruity with a solid maltiness.
3.4 Pint can. Nose lightly sweet and citrus, a little dank, and big on pine. Pours orange with a rocky cream head. Taste strongly bitter with strong dough and spice, seemingly a rye-like flavor component, light alcohol and warmth, big caramel and pine. There is citrus, yes, but bigger floral character, and mildly forrestal. Lightly soapy and cleansing, light-medium resin, touch scorched/burned character and some deeper malt development. Full body and very heavy, but boldly flavorful.
3.4 Transfer from BA review on 7-30-13- Served on tap in a pint glass Appearance – Served a very hazy orange colored brew with a one finger fizzy white head. The head fades rather fast but leaves a very nice level of lace on the sides of the glass. Smell – The aroma is rather light overall. It dose however have some aromas of a grapefruit and pine nature as well as a bit of a bready and a lightly yeasty smell. Taste – The taste begins with some bready and a light caramel and orange flavor mixed with a rather strong grapefruit and pine hop flavor. As the flavor advances the caramel, orange, and some of the bready flavors dwindle, with the grapefruit getting stronger. While the grapefruit gets stronger the pine remains constant, but the two are joined by a grassy flavor which ends up overpowering the pine. In the end, as the sweetness lessens and the grassy and grapefruit get stronger, a rather bitter and more dry flavor is left on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is on the average side in terms of its thickness and creaminess with a carbonation level that is on the average side as well. The medium body and carbonation are quite appropriate for the lighter bready and sweet flavors of the brew keeping it a rather drinkable even with its more bitter grassy and grapefruit flavors. Overall – A rather nice drier, grapefruity bitter, and slightly grassy brew.
3.8 Poured from a 16oz can. Aroma - almost a green apple / caramel smell. Appearace - slightly hazy golden pour with almost zero head. Taste - Citrus with a backbone of bitterness....not bad. Palate - Smooth - not too carbonated... Overall - not too bad. A little light on the body, but a decent beer.
3.1 On tap poured into a shaker. The initial aroma is kinda burnt toast, but this fades and gives way to a strong citrus and spruce combination. I light caramel note comes in late. It pours a clear honey orange color with a creamy off-white head that retains a thick creamy layer across the surface as well as leaves a good amount of sheet lacing. The taste is a medium high bitter with a medium sweetness to it. The oily texture has a medium light body and creamy carbonation and it finishes with a sprucey, warm caramel, citrus and citrus peel finish. It’s a dry beer with a strong spruce / resin aftertaste.
2.6 16oz can. Small off-white head atop clear amber body. Aroma is moderately sweet, grapefruit/lemon, some bread, faint cardboard. Taste is moderately sweet, grapefruit, some lemon/lime, bread. Light-medium body, light acidity, resin.
3.3 Pours a hazy orange with lasting head and good lacing. Aroma is fairly strong citrus zest and pine. Taste is more malt forward. OK, but not a great IPA in my opinion.
3.6 Ar: Resin, black pepper - orange zest, grapefruit - intensity is fairly strong. Ap: Golden-orange, clear - large off-white head, great retention, leaves a rocky mountain of foam. T: Toasted malt, slight medium and light caramels - lemon and grapefruit - pine - bitterness is medium-high, clean - low sweetness - grapefruit and pine on the finish. P: Medium body with medium carbonation - finish is medium-dry. O: Good AIPA - hop flavor is firm and pronounced, though as sticky and pungent as some examples - it could use a bit more carbonation.
3.2 Decent offering. Pours yellow orange with an off white head. Citrus aroma. Medium body and carbonation. Nothing overpowering; light sweet malt and slight hop bite finish.
3.6 (1 pint can) cloudy, light amber color; dry, piney hop flavor; light malt base; dry, bitter finish
3.3 Had at the Great Arkansas Beer Festival 2014. Pours a hazy amber. Lots of citrus on the nose. Some malt. Finishes slightly sweet. Nice beer.
3.4 Draft at Milkboy. Cloudy orange amber pour. Started with a large foamy head but it rather quickly reduced to a thin ring. No lace. Fuzzy oranges. Medium amber fruit. Cantaloupe. Light toast. Blood orange juice. Gently sweet in the middle. Dry lightly spicy finish. Fuller and smoother than most. Nicely constructed.
3.6 Aroma of citrus and lemon. Taste is moderate citrus, lemon peel, malt, and mild alcohol
3.6 Atlanta, GA - Taco Mac - Perimeter Center - on tap. Medium gold pour, soft snow white head with generous lacing. Aroma has some light floral accents, a brief hint of spruce. Flavor is full-bodied with some light citrus bitterness, just a touch of malty yeastiness, some caramel sweetness and light spiciness, Very "English" tasting. NIce smooth mouthfeel.
3.4 Hazy amber color. Big off white head. Plenty of lacing. Aroma of hops and malt. Some citrus. Citrusy (orange) flavor with malt in the back. Nice.
3.7 Poured from a can into a pint glass a yellow orange with a white head. Aroma is bitter sweet citrus. Flavor reminds me of pineapple pine trees. Thinking this brew may be a bit past prime as in it is a touch flat but know from previous tastings this usually not the case. Overall a slightly better than average IPA.
3.4 This was courtesy of Doran in Missouri. Thanks. Poured amber with a big white head and excellent lacing. Nose of caramel malts and citrus. Medium body. The flavor is both floral and citrus and there is a solid bitterness that continues on into to the finish. Well crafted IPA and quite enjoyable.
3.1 Can. Clear amber with a big eggshell head. Aroma is floral with hints of melon and caramel malt. Taste is similar but adds a roasty and earthy note. A little weird but not awful. Rich smooth mouthfeel. Kind of an odd beer but still enjoyable.
3.8 Pours cloudy orange into the glass, with a nice eggshell head that reduces to thick ring lacing. The nose is of musty orange citrus. Flavors are well-bittered from beginning to end, with orange and lemon upfront, and a decent grain bill hitting mid-palate. The close is nice and of lingering peppery bitters. The mouthfeel is medium-bodied with a juicy palate and medium-soft carbonation. Drinkability and complexity meet in the middle, with a substantive nature that goes down very nicely. Well-bittered for the hop head, this is a nice IPA!
