Firestone Walker 19 (XIX Nineteenth Anniversary Ale)

Firestone Walker 19 (XIX Nineteenth Anniversary Ale)

We blended together 235 oak barrels and four different beers creating something truly complex and exceptional.” – Brewmaster Matt Brynildson

Parabola / Aged in Bourbon Barrels / 33.33% of Final Blend / Russian Imperial Oatmeal Stout

Stickee Monkee / Aged in Bourbon and Whiskey Barrels / 33.33% of Final Blend / Central Coast Quad Brewed with Belgian Candi and Mexican Turbinado (brown) Sugar

Bravo / Aged in Bourbon and Brandy Barrels / 16.6% of Final Blend / Imperial Brown Ale

Velvet Merkin / Aged in Bourbon Barrels / 16.6% of Final Blend / Traditional Oatmeal Stout

As a finished beer, XIX is a rich, chocolaty, chewy brew with brandy-soaked raisin and holiday fruitcake flavors. The blend is anchored by equal parts Stickee Monkee and Parabola, which combine to create a dense chocolate truffle-like base. Velvet Merkin and Bravo lend their spicy oak, leather and fruity accents to complete the brew. The beer is unfiltered and unfined so there will be a small amount of sediment in the bottom of the bottle. XIX is best enjoyed poured carefully into a half-filled brandy snifter or wine glass. Allow it to warm to 55F to fully enjoy the pleasing and complex aromas. As the beer sits and breathes in the glass the true complexity of this blend is revealed, so take your time. If you wait to open your bottle later, store it in a cool dark place. I suspect, like our other Anniversary offerings, that this beer will age well and change favorably for years to come.

4.4 Flaska! Doftar fantastiskt av muscovadosocker bourbon ekfat o läder. Lite kaffe hittar jag också. Mycket smaker som avrundas med en behaglig liten beska. Riktigt gott
4.0 Bottle:   Black, deep cola hued edges, thin frothy tannish head, fairly nice lacing.   Graham cracker, vanilla, toasted marshmallow, bourbon, sweet roasted malts, chocolate, and some dark pitted fruit on the nose.   Yep, pretty complex like most of these examples.   Similar on the tongue, warming, and a bit easier to palate than some of the other vintages.   This one drinks as if its ready to go, its not terribly hot, and doesn't seem green.   Moderate to full body and mouthfeel.   Smooth, finishes malty, sweet, lots of vanilla, bourbon, graham cracker, toasted marshmallow, chocolate, and dark pitted fruit.   Very good beer, but pricewise its hard to really buy any additional to age.   However, I dont see this one getting better with age.
3.8 Donker bruin geen kraag, old Spice met eiken in de smaak, trekkend en tegen het zure aan
3.9 On tap at Ellyn's Tap & Grill in Glen Ellyn, IL. with the price point raised a bit too high, but consistently impressed with Matt's beers. Dispensed to a snifter showing a deepest brown color, with a finger's width of tan froth, and sheet-like foam that morphed into doily-like lacing. The nose was rich & roasted, sweet, with some dark caramel & toffee. Medium to full bodied, with low carbonation, and a sticky & syrupy texture, the taste offered similar notes, adding a bit of dark cherry, booze & warmth, and mellow roasted & earthy bitterness.
3.8 A masterpiece of complex bourbon, and blending. No carbonation yet a special barleywine. Smooth with above average mouthfeel. light brown, caramelized sweetness. Dangerously drinkable.
4.1 Sampled from a bottle at a group tasting from notes. Pours a dark cola brown color with a small beige head. The aroma and flavor have caramel, brown sugar, chocolate, bourbon, vanilla, dark fruit, wood, they always do a great job blending and barreling beer.
4.0 Bottle (22oz). Dark brown with very small tan head. Aroma was some sweetness and bourbon. Taste was the same. Warming. Nice blend of ales that I love.

4.4 Pours black with low tan head. Aroma of bourbon, chocolate, butterscotch, vanilla, raisins, dried fruit and muscovado. Taste is sweet, boozy, rich and fiery finish. Rich and creamy body with soft carbonation.
4.7 Big thanks to Dowon! Bomber split by 3. Black, thick tanned head. Nose is lightly boozy warming very thick sweet maple, bourbon, brandy syrup, caramel, mocha, pralines, low molasses. Taste is boozier malt syrup, bourbon, brandy, sugar, sweet, low maple, touch molasses, pralines, all the thick sweet goodness you could want, body is likewise,… Damn. This series remains so tight.
3.8 Pours very dark brown. Small white head. Smell is bit booze, some oak. Taste is full, sharp bourbon, boozy notes. Mild raisins, nice mouthfeel and carbonation. A bit harsh on the boozyness as it goes in, but it quickly mellows out during the taste . Nice
4.3 Bottle share, thanks Stevoj. Dark brown pour with a modest tan head. The aroma is decadent… one of those pours I could sit around and just sniff all evening. Great barrel notes, chocolate, vanilla, brown sugar, mocha… wonderful aroma. The taste delivers a balanced blend of barrel notes to go with the layers of sweetness in the blend. Lots of influence from the bourbon barrel, chocolate, vanilla, coconut. A little bit of dark pitted fruit. Seamless layers of flavor. An excellent beer.

4.2 Bottle at tasting. Dark pour. Aroma of red fruit, vanilla, milk chocolate, caramel fudge and cherry. Taste has milk chocolate, bourbon vanilla, raisin, booze, nuts, ripe fruit and a long lasting finish. I expected something amazing and got what I wanted.
4.4 650 ml bottle, shared 3 ways. Pitch black color, thin tan head. Aroma shows me roasted malts, vanilla, light bourbon, brandy notes, cream, milk chocolate, plum notes, some biscuits. Flavor is just wonderful. Moderate bourbon throughout the sip, vanilla, brownie batter hints. The sip ends on toffee and some oak. Honestly, every time I take a sip I get a combination of different flavors. The complexity of this is high. The alcohol is damn near completely hidden. This one will sneak up on you. Delightful.
4.2 Bomber from AFH. Thanks so much dude! Split 3 ways. Fridge temp and warmed up in stemware. A - This is a dark brown to black beer, 1 finger big bubbly head. S - Smells incredible. Figs, raisin, vanilla, coconut, cocoa, fudge, T - Holy moly. MMMMM YEAH. This is a bourbon fudge bomb. Sweet, not really boozy. Finish is coconut. M - Very thick, it’s like a syrupy malt bomb barleywine. O - I know my rate here is weak. but it’s the last beer of the evening but this is fantastic. Delicious.
4.2 Deep, almost opaque reddish black beer, almond colored head. Aroma is roasting malt, raisin, vanilla, molasses, cookies, figs. Taste is malt, coffee, vanilla, cookies, toast, raisin, fig, cola. Paler is smooth and rich, carbonation average, holding up well. Super beer.

4.8 Pours dark brown with some nearly tan head. Nose is big with toffee and caramel. Bourbon is the next most noticable scent. I?m also getting dates and maybe a hint of brandy. Taste is equally big. Lots of toffee and molasses. Bourbon and brandy are both present. Vanilla, raisin, leather and tobacco round out the taste. Moderate alcohol burn on the way down. Each sip reveals something new. Full bodied, sticky, almost chewy. This is a lovely, lovely beer.
4.1 Black with a light beige head. Aroma is chocolate, bourbon, malt, dark fruits. Full bodied, sticky mouthfeel, sweet and boozy on the palate with a slightly nutty finish. Taste is chocolate, bourbon, sesame seed, malt.

4.0 Pours deep mahogany into a tulip. Mocha head with medium retention recedes to nothing. Dark pit fruit, vanilla, bourbon and oak aromas. Medium bodied with hot, alcohol soaked raisins and pit fruit upfront turning to chocolate and soy in the lasting finish.

Flavour is no less impressive, with tons of bourbon and vanilla, followed by caramel, treacle, a touch of cocoa and more bourbon. Amazingly deep, with a warming finish. Phenomenal stuff.
4.2 Thanks to Brian for this great treat!
