Firestone Walker Bretta Rosé

Firestone Walker Bretta Rosé

Thirty miles north of Barrelworks lies the fertile Santa Maria Valley. Its warm days and cool marine layer-fed evenings allow for a cornucopia of fruits and vegetables to be grown in its rich soil. One of Santa Maria’s crown jewels is locally grown raspberries. We jumped at the opportunity to ferment fresh local raspberries with one of our Barrelworks creations. Behold Bretta Rosé! A low-alcohol Berliner Weisse style ale, acidified and matured in French oak puncheons for 6 months, is the foundation for this gem. Add 1000 lbs. of fresh raspberries, allow a secondary wild fermentation for 4 more months and voila (!), we have a crisp effervescent concoction, bursting with raspberry perfume and flavor, a rosé color, bracing acidity, and a clean and refreshing finish.

4.0 Bottle from the BarrelWorks in Buellton. Tart nose, lots of strawberry, some light funk and very perfumey overall. Pretty reddish blond color. Tart berries, quite jammy, goes sweet in mid palate, balances out in late mid, and finishes moderately dry. Thin body, mild astringency. Pleasant, balanced, very drinkable.
4.1 Christmas day and the Christmas festivities are finally over. Splitting this bottle with the wife. A pricey but very good sour. Fresh raspberries, oak and a nice sour punch.
4.1 Strong raspberry aroma, pours a pretty pink. Sweet, but tart raspberry flavour that is nicely balanced with the oak barrel flavour.

4.1 Raspberry predominant and smooth mouthfeel. Light wildness. This should be drink again.
4.9 The schnozberries actually taste like schnozberries. All kidding aside. It’s refreshing to drink a beer with a fermented fruit that has kept the correct flavour profile and really doesn’t taste gimmicky. Very approachable for non beer drinkers too!!
4.7 On tap at The Taphouse, Darlinghurst. Beautiful tangy raspb-lemon nose with nice dry finish.

3.4 8Sep2018 Sour citrus fruits, orange and lemon peel, lime juice. Hazy reddish, small, reddish head. Medium sour..ore sour citrus fruits, orange and lemon peel, lime juice, acidic, soft carbonation. Alright. Keg at BeaverEx18 - Saturday session, Canada Water.
3.6 Hazy pink color, vivid raspberry aroma. Bright fresh flavour with good tartness and plenty of raspberry flavour.
3.5 Draught at Ginger Man Boston, 9/13/18. Mostly clear, cantaloupe-to-deep-rose-peach. Off-white head fades slowly to ring. Lovely, juicy fruit in the nose is tart and fresh with good attenuation but still plentiful juice character. Not getting too much else initially, but eventually oak and light lactic acidity does emerge. In the mouth, raspberry acid, almost puckering but for a strong cereal-like character, collects on the palate. Very high attenuation in both fruit and malt, but still remains juicy with lightly seedy, mineral-like raspberry character. More acidity found on the finish, with a very light body yet oak emerging with warming to add a soft, nutty tannin. Pretty nice, though very fruit-heavy and maybe a bit lacking in beer character. Oak continues to emerge with fruity, spicy notes lingering.
3.6 Keg at Stockholm Beer Festival. Hazy pink, small head. Tart lemony raspberry aroma. Lemon and cobwebs, frozen raspberries. Low bitterness.
3.9 June 20th, 2015 - The Bretta Rose is a nice gem in Toronado's menu, a beautiful pomegranate and ember color. The aroma is bright and springy with some sweet watermelon, fresh raspberry, cotton candy, and deep cherry scents, like a fancy, cherry jubilee. The flavor is much more sour, beginning with a sample of pomegranate, and blossoms, ramping up in acidity on a linear scale. But even at its peak, the sourness is brilliantly balanced, with a nice acidic burn all the way through. Layers of watermelon and sour barrel come in with some white wine vinegar and what seems like chardonnay. The taste is bright and one sip goes a long way, though the aftertaste is relatively short.
3.6 Tap. Hazy reddish-orange color with white head. Aroma is berries, yoghurt. Taste is berries, yoghurt. Mineralic finish, fizzy carbonation.

3.6 12.7 oz bottle with a cork. Big sour barnyard smells. Pours a very pretty rosey gold with a white head of micro bubbles. Super sour tastes balanced by barnyard flavors of rose petals and unrepentant berries. Ends with a fizzy mouthfeel and long sour finish. Quite an accomplishment.
