Luponic Distortion is not a single beer, but rather an ongoing series of beers that will evolve and revolve approximately every 90 days. It all kicks off with Revolution No. 001, to be followed by Revolution No. 002 and so on.
The base beer will remain the same with each new release, but the hop blend will change every time, so that no two releases will be exactly alike. In other words, there will be a common thread, but also some turns in the road as different hops are pushed to the forefront.
Luponic Distortion is an intentional departure from the heavier style of many IPAs. Instead, it aims for a razor-like brightness, providing a clean platform for the hop aromas to pop as vividly as possible. As many as nine different hops will be included in each release, with up to six used in the dry hopping alone. However, with each release, the brewing team is going to turn up the volume a different featured experimental hop, which will be dry hopped in greater quantity than the others. “We can completely evolve, change and redirect this thing as new hops come to us and as we get to know the hops better,” says Brewmaster Matt Brynildson. “Luponic is this beer that can keep morphing and stay interesting and remain out in front of this crazy hop wave.”

3.8Love the hops and the floral. The bitterness and dryness got a little too much in the end.
Reviewed - A Brew With You, Ep. 35
3.0I love the concept of this beer, in that there will be differences depending on what number in the series is in your glass. I found the beer average for an IPA however.
4.1Pours a clear gold with white head. A strong floral hop and pine aroma. A strong taste of citrus, hops, floral, pine and some sugar. A sweet citrus and light bitter hoo aftertaste.
3.8Lots of fresh hops on the aroma, well balanced hop and malt profile, with a bitter finish .
3.6Can. Canned 27/05/2016. Golden, almost crystal clear, just a slight haziness. Head is moderate, off-white, frothy with nice lacing and moderate retention. Moderate malty notes, moderate citrus notes - nectarine, peach, slight floral and resinous notes. Flavor is moderately bitter and moderately malty, finish is moderately sweet, with short fruity notes. In nice, regular, drinkable IPA, but nothing more.
3.8Can from mchughs. Pours clearish amber with foam white head. Citrus, pine, some bubblegum, peach. Flavour is sweet caramel with a dry earth pine bitter end.
4.1This was from a can. Poured gold with a write head. Nose of pine and floral hops, plus lot of tropical fruit. Medium body and resinous mouth feel. Flavor is big on the hops, with an intense pine but the tropical fruit is big as well. Mango mostly but there are other fruit flavors as well including some citrus. The finish is bitter and really flavorful. Great IPA.
3.8Pour golden with white head. Nice aroma of hops exploding once poured in the glass, tropical notes, yellow fruits, grassy, some dankness.
The flavour follows the nose, very nice balance but the end is straight hoppy.
Medium to low body, fizzy carbonation, easy drinking and refreshing. Pretty good ipa.
3.5Chuck’s 85th, Seattle. (old rate) Pale clear gold, foam. Grainy malt, clean hop. Pale bitter, clean lighter IPA. Crisp, nice.
4.212 ounce can from Wegman’s Lake Manassas, 5/27/16. Clear amber, large foamy white head, good retention. Aroma of floral hops, grapefruit, pale malt. The taste is piney, grapefruit hops, pale malt. Medium bodied, lingering bitterness, well balanced.
3.8Great bear. Phenomenal hoppy and citrus aroma. This is how an IPA should smell. Standard light copper color with a decent head. Medium weight with good carbonation. Flavor was bitter but balanced with caramel notes and honey.
4.1Pours clear amber with white head. Smell is hops, resin citrus and tropical fruit. Taste is bitter hops followed by mango, tropical fruit and citrus. Juicy and silky mouth feel. Light body, medium carb.
4.0Clear golden with a fizzy white head. Light body which really makes this a drinkable IPA. Tropical fruits, sweet, slight melon. Very refreshing, fresh, flavorful. Would love more IPAs in this style.
3.7Can from Coppers, Newcastle. Hazy straw coloured with a thick white head of foam. It has a tropical fruit and pine flavour with sweet, zesty fruity orange on the smooth finish. Very good.
3.8Pine, resin, sweet grain and cereal malts, caramel. Hazy, pale gold, small, creamy, white head. Light bitter. More intense pine and resinous hops, floral and grassy notes, soft carbonation, some citrus fruits, tangerine, tropical fruits appearing as well, melon and mango. Very nice IPA, beautiful and intense hops throughout. Can from Trafalgar Wines, Brighton.
3.7Can. Pours a lightly hazy golden yellow with a thin lacy off white head. Aroma is of resinous pine, floral, hint of caramel, melon. Taste is of pine, citrus, melon, grassy, hint of sweet caramel, fairly crisp. Light oily mouthfeel, medium carbonation.
3.8Gold and a white head. Fresh florals, heavy hops, sweet and refreshing on the nose. Smooth palate, fresh hops up front, backed with a light bitterness and an easy finish.
3.9Can from We Brought Beer in Balham. Very clear pale amber, nice bubbles and lacing, thin white head. Nose is very light and fragrant. Lots of fresh pine, sherberty sweetness, fresh greeness, some light caramel sweetness, tropical fruit. Taste is light, pine, minerals, tropical fruit, fresh green hops. I really like these Firestone Walker can releases. Big flavours but with a deft lightness and very aromatic flavours.
3.9Can from Coppers in Newcastle. Pours golden with an off white head. Nice pine aroma. The taste has moderately bitter pine over a sweet caramel base. This was probably less fresh than i would have liked, but was still very good.
3.9Forgot to rate this one. Had it pretty fresh, and remember it being a really good, clean IPA.
3.2Can. Clear bright gold with a white head. Aroma of ripe granny smith apple, mango and some basement dampness. bitter, danky taste. Medium-to-full body, fizzy, nice, rather thin juicy finish.
3.5Bottle from World Market. Mild tropical hop flavors up front. Lightly sweet with a touch of candy of perfume. Becomes a little more spicy towards the hop finish. Very easy sipping lighter IPA.
3.4Can. Pours a clear dark gold with an average white head and decent lacing. Aroma is musty pine resin, sharp citrus, and caramel. Taste is pine forward with some juicy citrus ans caramel in the finish. Average mouthfeel and slightly dry.
3.812oz can from Valhalla’s Goat. Dark yellow, good head. Mild hoppy aroma. Lemon hop flavour. Bitter aftertaste. Good but I expected more.
4.0This feels like a classic beer, everything seems to fit into place .. Classic west coast hopping, resin and grass .. Mouth is a bit light but it works .. Copper yellow .. solid foam .. A pint that goes down fine, easy session style ipa .. . . Made with loving care by Brenda, whose previous experience was working in the deli at Walmart for six months until she
quit because of a torrid romance with Randy in the meat department going sour.
3.7Can from Beermoth, Manchester. Pours a clear pale golden colour with a foamy white head.
Aroma of lemon, mango, melon, some grapefruit, a little onion, a hint of pine, light pale malts and slight grassy hops. Taste of lemon, grapefruit, pine, some onion, a little pale malts and slight grassy hops. Medium bodied and moderate carbonation. A lingering, dry, piney, oniony, grassy hop bitterness in the finish. A very dry, hoppy beer with high drinkability. Lighter than most IPAs but flavourful.
5.0I tried this on tap at a brewfest in Fresno the first time and it impressed me with how meticulously crafted this was. One of the most clean and quenching IPAs I have ever had. And it resembles the commercial description in every way. The clean malt bill lets the hops shine through. It is a trophy rendered ipa in a glass that I say Firestone has hit all the marks right on this one. Can’t wait to try .002!
3.3Can from Bob. Pretty straight forward. Worked on a hot day, Nice body, some balance, not just IPA zing.
3.8Can from Cornelius. Clear golden body with a thin white head. Steady carbonation. Faint lacing. Aroma of celery, grapefruit and grass. Flavour of sugared grapefruit, pine and tingly hops. Medium body with an oily mouthfeel. Soft fizz. Clean and hoppy.
3.533cl can via Beer Gonzo. It pours a clean golden color with a medium white head. Aroma is hoppy resiny and lightly fruity and sweet with notes of resin, pine cones, citrus peel and light honey melon. Taste is also medium tangy resinous with pine cones and resin, tangerine, melon and mango. Medium bodied with good carbonation. Overall, tasty
