Firestone Walker Luponic Distortion Revolution No. 002

Firestone Walker Luponic Distortion Revolution No. 002

An ever-evolving mix of experimental hops, designed to deliver mind-blowing flavors that break the rules with each new release. The unique revolution number on the label tells you which release you have in hand. Crack fresh and enjoy the show.

For Luponic Distortion Revolution No. 002, we switched things up with a new blend of seven different hop varieties. Starting with a couple of our favorite Pacific Northwest varieties, we added a new experimental variety that brings aromas of ripe peaches, berries, and tropical fruit. We then pulled from some of our other favorites from around the world settling on two new school hops from Germany, and two from New Zealand that bring aromas of gooseberry, melon, lemongrass, and tropical flowers. The overall impression leans more toward tropical and ripe stone fruits with an underlying spice. The light malt base of pale and wheat malts let the hops shine for a clean, dry finish.

3.6 Can at trailer. Clear dark golden color with ivory foam. Nice spicy, herbal, earthy hoppy aroma. Spicy herbal melon fruit, hoppy flavors with a dusty malt base---drying finish___good.
5.0 In the second iteration of the ongoing series the hop bill in Rev 2 takes on a slightly berry, grass, and nectarine characters proving the unique versatility of how a dialed in malt recipe can be the perfect backdrop to a meticulous blend of hops.
3.8 6-pack, about halfway done. Pours a clear medium burnished amber with golden highlights. Sudsy whitish head that settles within a sip or two. Bright spicy nose showing lots of alliums--some onion, some garlic. Toasty under that. Creamy medium body with lively carb. Toasty, slightly nutty mid palate with clear, spicy alliums showing all over the place. Nice and dry and crisp and clean. No disrespect to Fat Head’s, but this is easily a better allium-profiled IPA than what they’re doing.
3.6 On draft. Yellow pour, with a white head. Tropical fruit, grassy, grain, moderate bitternes, and some citrus.
3.5 Pours clear golden color. Poor aroma, not so explosive on the hoppy side, some hay, some pine, very slight tropical notes, quite earthy and grassy. In the mouth it starts malty but soon the hops come through and leave their bitterness till a long finish, medium dry. Watery, low body, fizzy carbonation. I expected something way better. Overall a decent average ipa.
3.7 I had this at Flying Saucer. Pours gold with a white head. Taste dank, fruity, slightly sweet. I thought this was good. I would drink this again.
3.8 2016-11-15. Very lightly hazy dark yellow body nice white head and lace. 4+ Aroma is moderately hoppy with a melange of fruit and lightly musky green hops. Flavour is pleasantly fruity up front, moderate bitterness throughout. Notes of citrus, melon and tropical fruit. 7+ Average plus bodied palate, soft carbonation. Pretty tasty. 7/4/7-8/3/16-17 Can from Premier Gourmet, Buffalo.
3.5 (bottle) clear, bright golden amber colour with a tall white head; aroma of tropical fruit, dankness; balanced flavour with a long, light bitter finish
4.0 12 ounce can, 7/17/16. Clear yellow, thin foamy white head, good retention. Aroma of tropical fruit, pale malt. The taste is pine, tropical fruit, resin, pale malt. Medium bodied, well balanced. Nice beer.
2.9 Very clear golden coloured body that shows a light straw glow along with a six centimetre tall pure white head and a few bubbles rising from the bottom. Aroma of fresh cut grass, bananas, earth, a touch of lactose and some very dry, almost herbal hop bitterness scents. Light-bodied; Dry grassy flavour with some light malts, a touch of lemons, but this is all herbs, grass and perfumey hops with not much bitterness, just a dry flavour throughout. Aftertaste shows some herbs, lemons, grain and light malts with no support - no real complexity or depth, just the dry hoppy flavours up front and then it fades off the cliff. Overall, a decent beer if it were a Lager, but given that this is an Ale and should be relatively complex, this doesn’t fit the bill. A bit too plain and subdued for it to complete with anything from this style, but that’s perhaps good that it’s a one-off beer anyways. I sampled this twelve ounce can purchased from Whole Foods in Pentagon City (Arlington), Virginia for US$1,99 on 30-August-2016 at the end of my driveway sampled at home in Washington on 07-November-2016. Canned on date (on bottom of can) as: 10-June-2016 at 14h17.
3.9 Pours light gold, thin white head, dissipates into film with sparsely spotted lace. Aroma is lovely, fresh tropical fruit hop essence, orange peel, rich and fresh. Great feel to it, a bit more piney than fruity on the tongue, fresh all around, easy to drink but full of flavor.
3.6 12 oz. can via trade. Pours a clear light bright gold with a moderate white head that settles into a ring and film, leaving lighter lace in the glass. Pale and sweet and lightly toasty malts, citrus zest, light pine and florals. Light-bodied, with moderate to medium carbonation and a pretty clean mouthfeel. So I’m a couple months late on this one and the hops have faded a bit. But this is good nonetheless.
3.6 Draft at Mile, pours hazy golden orange with medium white head. Notes of lemon citrus, grapefruit, light pine, and good bit of a booze bite especially at the lower percent. Medium body. Alright but a little hot
3.5 Transparent pale gold with no sediment and a meager sized white head that vanishes rapidly. Not a particularly intensive aroma, but lemon, grapefruit and pine are present notwithstanding. Extremely delicate and smooth texture. Certainly an enjoyable ipa consisting of flavours such as lemon, grapefruit, and pine with a soft and dry hoppy finish. Pleasant light ipa not unlike a session.
3.5 Pours a clear yellow golden color with white head. Citrus, light sweet fruits, and some light pine on the nose; follows onto the palate. Medium bodied. Finishes with light fruits, some sweet notes, and a little grass.
3.7 12oz can from Cork Keg and Spirits, picked up by bananbi11. Thanks! 6/22/2016 can date, so quite fresh. Hoppy. Lightly sweet. Fruity. Tasty. Very nice! 14.2
4.3 Consumed back when it was fresh. 12oz can pours with a crystal clear pure gold body that supports a dirty white head of foam. The aroma offers up mango, cantaloupe, some pineapple and then a thin blend of clementine and earthy spicy onion like hoppiness. The taste delivers nice smooth nearly soft juicy mango and tangerine hoppiness. It then takes it’s time getting into just a modest level of bitter dank onion ringed thinly by bitter grapefruit like hops. Into the finish a nice thin supporting layer of cracker like maltiness comes to the surface to help create a reference point for the hops. This thing just rounds out so nicely with bitter and juicy and slightly malty balance. Yes!
3.8 12oz can picked up at Total Wine in Reno Pours clear golden with a medium sized off-white head, some lacing. Aroma of pine needles, cedar and berries. Flavors is fruity, spicy hops and pine Tasty
3.6 Sweet fruity aromas of watermelon, tangerines, touches of mango. Clear pale golden body, nice lacing left behind. Flavor of bitter lemon, grapefruit with light maltiness. Overall it’s a nice beer.
3.7 Can into pint glass, hazy pale-golden color with white head. Aroma notes of tropical/citrus hops, somewhat lemon leaning, some pine and faint earthiness. Taste adds resin (almost woody), mango/orange, grapefruit and green tea. Medium-light body, moderate-low carbonation, dry with lingering pine/tropical fruit finish. Even with some age this is delicious, great hop profile.
3.9 12oz bottle shared by Lew, thanks. Retaining thin white with trailing lace, gold. A-fruity/melon/spice, lt malt. T-follows.
3.8 Aroma is sweet malts, caramel, tart, citrus, lemon grass and a slight earthiness. Taste is light sweet grains, tart, honey and light funk. The hop profile is deep and tasty . It doesn’t take away from the malt body and is overall quote well rounded . Light tartiness on finish. Appearance is a clear straw with a frothy pearl head that retains quite well.
4.0 Gold pour, decent white head with some scant lace. Nose is resinous wood. Bitter. middle is tropical fruit, wood, light kilned malt. Finish is hoppy, but not overpowering, and long. Delicious.
3.9 Where and how: tasting VB (can 12 oz.) Aroma: sting nettle, herbal greens. Elements of red mango with sweet sugary behind. Soft east coast like vibe. Appearance : Top: large white head, lace presented on glass. Base: pale gold into gold Palate : lighter in body yet with nice softness to it. The enables this beer to avoid feel of being shallow. Taste: green tea, soft mellow rounded malts, mango fruit. Hoppy walls. other notes very tasty creation.
3.8 On tap at the Venice taproom. Crystal clear gold with a two-finger bright white head and very nice lace. Big hoppy aromas of tropical citrus, melon, grass, and a hint of berry. Flavor follows, with mango, grapefruit, lemon, hay and spice riding above a solid bready malt. Medium body, moderate carbonation, silky mouthfeel and a clean crisp finish.
3.8 Keg from Bevmo. Nose is mango, papaya, floral, and a hint of grass. Clear yellow with a big lightly lacing white head. Flavor is lightly bitter and tropical fruitiness.
3.7 Sample at KC Beerfest 2016. Comes a mostly clear gold with a small white head. Aroma of citrus and pine. Taste is grapefruit, orange, tropical, pine, and malt. Very good.
4.0 Pours clear golden color with a small white head. Aroma is sweet citrus. Lightly carbonated. Finishes with sweet juicy hop notes.
3.2 9th August 2016 GBBF Day 1. Bottle. Light haze on this pale gold beer, small white head. Palate is light, semi dry and has modest carbonation. Thin pale malts. Light pithy piney hop. Modest citrus. For an FW beer this is pretty repressed and I wonder if it’s another of these somewhat aged IPAs GBBF have got in this year.
3.9 Clear yellow pour. Rocky white head that gives nice lacing. Aroma is clean, crisp, juicy hops: some mango, sweet citrus, some slight pine. Not much malt notes detected, and I’m fine with that. Taste is pure hops. Juicy is the best way to describe it, with a bite of bitterness in the background. Lovely.
