Firestone Walker Parabajava

Firestone Walker Parabajava

Parabajava ia an ongoing series exploring the infusion of coffee into our Parabola Barrel Aged Imperial Series. This first offering is a collaboration with the famed Intelligentsia Coffee Company, utilizing their El Diablo espresso blend. This beer was crated for our June 16th Father’s Day brunch at Lot 213 in L.A. The coffee brings intense coffee house espress aroma - roasty carmel, toffee, molasses and fresh ground coffee notes. The flavor melds well with the big rich character of the stout - complementary roasty flavors, dark baker’s chocolate, and more caramel which pairs well with Parabola’s rich malt and smokey oak bourbon notes. The finish is amazingly smooth and integrated. I’m pretty stoked on the results!

4.6 Tasted from bottle. Pours black with thin white head. Aroma of coffee, molasses and cocoa. Thick, sweet and sticky on the mouth. Coffee, cocoa, brown sugar, molasses, caramel flavors. Awesome stout.
4.3 Six ounce pour at Firestone Walker Brewery. Excellent mouthfeel with that pleasing Parabola base and coffee overtone. You need to be a barrel-aged stout fan to enjoy it, but if you are, you’ll be sorry its gone when finished.
4.5 On tap at the Propagator. Rich chocolate and coffee aroma. Taste is heavenly. Fudgey coffee with slight bourbon notes. So good.
4.0 Deep brown with a few khaki bubbles. Nose is sticky, sweet, coffee, roasted malts and alcohol. Chewy palate, heavy barrel, vanilla, sweet, sticky, chewy, light alcohol, coffee, great finish.
4.4 On tap at the Well, 2015 vintage. Pours pitch black. Toast, coffee, bourbon, booze, coconut, red grape, dry red wine, tobacco, vanilla, chocolate, bourbon again, dried cranberry. Good body, bit slick. Outstanding.
4.1 2016 vintage on draft at Toronado SD during the 10th anniversary San Diego Beer Week. POURS pitch black with a good layover of tan foam that sticks around for a while. AROMA of boozy bourbon, raisins, very sweet caramel, muted espresso, and vanilla. FLAVOR initially has an almost cloyingly sweet molasses / booze hit. Then additional flavors start to emerge with rich coffee, dark chocolate, stewed dark fruits. The coffee presence emerges somewhat stronger as we head to the finish. Very heavy palate with lingering alcohol (14%!) and roasty coffee in the finish. Coffee seems to have mellowed out some and the sweet / boozy elements are overdone a bit at this point. Still happy to finally try this even if it is a bit too sweet and not as balanced as it might have been when it released a couple years back. (160, 1108)
4.2 Sampled at LLywelyns Pub. Delicious stuff. Thick and rich. Black with tan. Coffee plus barrel aging. Caramel and lactic. A winner!
4.3 MBCC 2017 Yellow session. Black body with a small tanned head. Aroma of coconut, roasted malt, vanilla. Taste is strong chocolate andcoffee with bourbon. Dry roasted finish. Very lovely!
4.4 Beautiful barrel aroma - a superbly coffee driven beer. It smells much better than it tastes but still is not disappointing. It lacks some body and creamy/balanced mouthfeel. I like it.
4.2 Draft at Salud, Walker tour. Black. Nice aroma of coffee, vanilla, toasted coconut, bourbon. Taste is a well integrated mixture of all of these. Delicious.
4.0 @MBCC2017S01 Pours brown with a small head. Chocolate aroma with caramel and toffee. Tastes chocolatey with toffee and caramel notes, very fun. Medium body +
4.4 Świetna, mocno palona, wytrawna kawa, lekko ziemiste, sporo slodyczy, ale całkowicie skontrowana paloną kawą. Świetna intensywność i balans.
4.3 Draft 2015 vintage at The Rare Barrel. Now here's a real tick! Black pour with a small tan head. Aroma is rich, roasty, coffee, dark chocolate, bourbon, molasses. Flavor is medium sweet, slight coffee bitterness, chocolatey, bourbon, awesome. Melds together really well. Full body, slick and smooth. Crushing it.
4.0 Draft to snifter. Looks good; a very slightly translucent very dark cola with beige head that steadily dissipates into lacing. Smells good too; a nice balance of chocolate, oak, coffee, and roast alongside a big impy stout backbone. Tastes like it smells with silky-smooth and warming full-bodied mouthfeel. Delicious.
4.1 Firestone Walker Brewing Company - Parabajava Vintage 2016 Bourbon Barrel-Aged Imperial Coffee Stout. Alkohol: 13% obj. Ekstrakt: 30,5% wag. IBU: 50 Butelka: 650 ml Kolor: Czarny, nieprzejrzysty. Piana: Zaskakująco słaba, niska i mało reprezentatywna. Po paru sekundach nie pozostał po niej nawet ślad. Opadła do milimetrowego pierścienia. Alkohol silnie rozgrzewa w przełyku i gardle. Może nie jest perfekcyjnie ułożony, ale wspaniale wtapia się w profil smakowy piwa. Gęsta i oleista tekstura podkreśla szlachetny charakter trunku. Charakter piwa początkowo pełny, wyklejający, wraz z upływem czasu i z coraz to mocniejszym natężeniem palonej kawy, staje się bardziej wytrawny. Wysycenie: Niskie. Podsumowanie: Parabajava to ulepszona wersja jednego z najlepszych RIS-ów na świecie - Parabolii. Parabola została wzbogacona o dodatek aromatycznej kawy z Wyspy Jawy. Doskonały Imperial Stout! Aromat natomiast znacznie wybija się ponad smak. W początkowej fazie obezwładniał on zmysły.

4.2 Pours black with good head and lacing. Chile, good roast. Oily consistency like licking salmon. Bittersweet finish. Awesome stuff. Tap at Snally.
4.2 Draft at Snallygaster 2017. Poured a pitch black, almost velvet black color with a nice, small tan head. Aroma was strong roasted notes, dark bakers chocolate and coffee. Flavor was really smooth for being 15% - actually was shocked that I liked it, especially when it was 85 degrees without a single cloud in the sky. Flavor was really nice, rich chocolate, roasted notes. Java.
4.7 On tap at beavertown extravaganza 2017.Aromas of coffee, chocolate, roasted malts.Taste of caramel, charcoal, figs, cocoa nibs, oak, subtle barrel wood, leather and bourbon.
4.2 From keg at Beavertown extravaganza in London: second day, 9th september 2017....
4.4 Aromas of coffee, chocolate, roasted malts, charcoal, nuttiness, raisins, figs, cocoa nibs, oak, subtle barrel wood, leather and bourbon. Pours black with an almost non existent foam or lacing. Taste brings massive notes off chocolate, coffee, black licorice, star anise, charcoal, charred malts, burnt caramel, almonds, heavy char, roasted malts and wort malt. Mid palate offers bourbon, oak, toffee, charred aged malts, leather and barrel wood. Finishes heavily boozy with massive amounts of coffee, chocolate, dark malts and bourbon. Overall, what a great twist on an already perfect beer. You get the original Parabola notes accompanied by massive amounts of fresh coffee. Coffee oils, coffee rinds, espresso and mocha are present throughout the palate as well. A+ rating.
4.0 Restrained aroma in an inky black pour. Amazingly laid back flavor profile with cocoa, coffee, caramel, and vanilla (to name a few). Pretty much the best beer on offer around Beervana 2017 (albeit not at the festival itself) and a tribute to the US/UK beer making tradition.
4.0 MBCC sample. Dark brown with a small beige head. Aroma heavy malty (roasted, dark chocolate, coffee, oak barrel). Flavor medium sweet and bitter, roasted, dark chocolate, coffee, oak barrel, notes of dark fruit and vanilla. Almost full body.
3.7 Enjoyed on draft at Pine Box, Seattle, with Matt. From notes. I believe this was left over from their anniversary party. All I know is that I was both surprised and happy to run into it. Hoping for this beer to be super smooth, it wasn’t quite. Very boozy all together for me. A ton of chocolate and straight bourbon on the nose. Chocolate, vanilla, caramel, and sweet, boozy bourbon flavor. An absolute sipper for me to say the least. If bourbon is your go to, this is incredible. I can’t complain too much. It’s exactly what they say it is. Coffee and chocolate, soft linger that actually outlasts the bourbon a bit. Flavorful for sure. Good qualities here.
3.9 Pours pitch black with no head. Aroma: a lot of coffee, chocolate, vanilla, dark fruit Taste: a lot of coffee, chocolate and barrel-vanilla. ABV well hidden.
4.5 2015 bottle from Barrelworks. Near black with cocoa head. Aroma is pretty balanced...slightly Barrel forward. Coffee, malted chocolate, roast, light vanilla. Flavor gets a touch hot as it reaches room temp, but damn this is pretty dialed in and delicious. Both friends I shared it with gave it 5/5 on the uncrappd. I’m not that generous, but it’s worthy of a very high 4.5.
4.6 Pours a deep brown with tan head. Chocolate and vanilla-Bourbon aroma. Smooth and chocolatey, blending to a vanilla Bourbon and coffee roast finish. Complex but the flavors blend seamlessly. Notes: on tap at the Barreworks, Solvang June ’17
4.0 MBCC. Very dark brown with small beige head. Aroma is roasted malt, chocolate, coffee, barrel and dusty. Flavour is roasted malts, chocolate, coffee, barrel, little dark fruit, warming, hop, little vanilla, sweet and a little bourbon.
