Flossmoor Station Pullman Nut Brown

Flossmoor Station Pullman Nut Brown

This robust, dark brown ale gets its rich flavor from seven different malts and three types of hops. The addition of hand-toasted oats and a generous portion of molasses give the Pullman Nut Brown Ale an incredible smoothness and quaffability.

3.6 A very dark dark brown with a great roasted oat smell. Great balance with malts and good molasses flavor.
3.5 Bottle from Binnys from Orland Park, coffee brown pour, off white head. Aroma of coffee roast, chocolate, and malt. Taste is some very sweet malt with some chocolate backing, decent.
3.4 Smells almost like a wine. Weird. Or whiskey. Black pour from draft at two. White foamy head. Way more a stout than a brown in my opinion. Malty and Carmel flavors. Dry. Not bad
4.0 Draft. Coffee malt aroma. Black with small head. Sweet chocolate and coffee malt flavor. Very good.
3.8 Draft @ brewery. Creamy mocha (heavy on the coffee-light on the chocolate) and light roasty aroma. Black brown with a small creamy beige head. Coffee, roasty nutty malt flavor. Medium creamy body, soft carbonation. The brewery may call this brown, but it is definitely more porter like. Very nice, whatever it is.
2.8 let em have it!! .. . an aged bottle, not sure exactly but its got years .. . deep brown .. mild foam .. . nuts, both kinds and black strap molasses covered pennies .. . light mouth .. ugly finish .. . thanks but no thanks. .. . haunted french pancakes give me the crepes.
3.6 Pours a deep brown with a finger and a half head. Had aromas of syrup, honey, vanilla, and a bit nutty. Very sweet up front, no hop bite. Really thick and creamy, but was not very heavy. Had this real thick, syrupy aftertaste. Real good brown ale, seeing as this is not a porter.
3.3 Bottle - small foamy head, almost black color, sweet/roasty/nutty aroma and flavor, smooth creamy mouthfeel
3.3 On tap at Brew Pub. Poured a deep brown color with reddish hues and a one finger tan head that fell to a cap. Aroma was mild. with light notes of chocolate, biscuit, and coffee. Taste was dominated by a nutty chocolatiness. Coffee and toasted malt ware also present with a light biscuity flavor. Mouthfeel was medium and smooth.
3.8 Poured from 750 mL bottle into pint glass. Served at slightly below cellar temp. A: Pours a creamy dark brow almost nearing black with some cherry hues around the edges. Tan one finger head that leaves pretty quickly leaving a thin film on the top. Slight lace as the beer goes down, but nothing substantial. S: What a smell! I could smell it from a good 2-3 feet away after it had poured. A light black liquorice comes through right away with a boozy undertone as well. Malts are noticeable as well. T: A heavy roast taste is immediately apparent with an emphasis on the molasses. This is followed by a nice coffee bean and bitter cocoa flavor that stays nicely on the tongue between each sip. The boozy/liquorice smell isn’t too heavy in the actual taste which i like. M: Medium to heavy bodied, bordering on a whole milk type feeling with a medium carbonation O: A really great brown ale. I like the bitter chocolates and coffee and the molasses really comes through to make it a great lounging around on a cold night (or morning!) beer. 3.7 22oz bomber poured into an English pint. Pours black with a thin ring of off-white head. Aroma of coffee, chocolate and caramel. Taste is light bitter and light sweet. Coffee, caramel, chocolate and a little sour on the end. Light bodied with a somewhat sticky texture. Lively carbonation and a long finish. Overall, pretty good. I would drink it again.
3.2 Bottle at Paul’s. Medium brown pour. Flavor and aroma are caramel heavy; minimal nutty or chocolate malt presence. Sweet with a slight cocoa finish. Silky but very thin body. Not a porter.
3.8 Bottle at Paul’s. Pours dark brown with tan head. Nose/taste of old fruit, molasses, burnt caramel and toasted oats. Medium body.
3.7 On tap at the brewpub, pours a very dark brown wit ha tan head, the aroma is of roasted malt with a touch of caramel, the flavor has a nice hop character to it with a fruity and malty finish, very smooth and drinkable, nice.
3.9 "Purchased at the Flossmoor Station Brewery and served in a goblet. Consumed Dec 31, 2009. Pours a dark brown (what are the chances), with small head which leaves little lace. Wow, this beer smells good: molasses, brown sugar, and lots of other deliciousness. A nice balance of sweetness, and very enjoyable. I wish this beer was a little thicker in the mouthfeel. More malt perhaps? A nice beer to enjoy as we wind down the past decade and one I look forward to having again. Cheers!"
3.7 Cassonade, melasse et houblons floraux dans une marre a la corpulence onctueuse au fini legerement crayeux.
3.7 (Bottle) Pours dark brown with a small nougat coloured head. The aroma holds roasted dark bread, chocolate, brown sugar, molasses, dark fruits, nuts, wet stone and a whisper of earthy/spicy/floral hops. The flavour is light to medium sweet, light bitter and tiny acidic with notes of dark bread, nuts, brown sugar, molasses, mild cocoa, chocolate, dark fruits, metal and a touch of earthy/spicy/floral hops. The mouthfeel is soft, round, velvety and tiny sticky with a light carbonation. Mild roast, molasses and well balanced hops on the finish. Medium bodied.
3.0 This has a slightly sour aftertaste. It has a lot of nuttiness to it in an odd way. Dark brown pour with moderate head.
3.5 Draught at Flossmoor Station - brewpub. Dark brown - white head. Roasted, nutty, sweetness, nice bitterness, cocoa, toasted, high malty, light hoppy. This is not a porter.
3.2 Bottle from the restaurant--scored is marked a little low since Nut Brown isn’t in my top half of favorite brews, that said, this brew is well made. Poured a deep brown with a thin tan head. Nice roasted coffee aroma. Taste was roasted malt with molasses. Nice bitter finish. I really didn’t see it as a porter myself.
3.8 Standard market, draft. Very dark, almost black. Licorice and coconut and cocoa powder all coming to the nose. Rich dark chocolate and more coconut with a bit of alcohol heat all mix together nicely. This is rich and sweet, good for dessert.
2.2 Dark pour, not really brown. Aroma is sweet with caramel. Taste is a little machine like. After taste is slightly acrid. This could have been from an old keg, but I wasn’t impressed. Not what I expected.
4.1 Dessert in a bottle YUM YUM. You can really taste the molasses! Drinks like a Stout or porter, although its a Nut Brown Ale.
4.1 First beer I have had by Flossmoor and I want more. What a nice complex brown ale. I dont know why its classified as a porter as there was very little roastyness and the color was well.... brown, but to each his own. Very nutty lightly sweet caramel flavors with a nice hoppy finish to round it out.
4.1 Very rich a roasty, a delicious sweetness from the molasses, tastes home-brewed.
3.7 Aroma is malty along a strong hint of sweetness, probably from the molasses. The flavor is caramel and malty and has a heavy sweetness from the molasses. Decent ale although the molasses made it a bit too sweet for my tastes.
2.6 Bottle. It’s a gusher! Dark brown pour, way too much carbonation and a slightly nutty aroma. Flavor wasn’t actually all that bad, chocolatey like a good porter, some sweet roasted malt and unfortunately way too much odd effervesence and carbonation. I think this bottle was compromised and would be willing to try again and rerate.
2.9 Bottle shared with DalzAle. Pours foam everywhere. Once I get some to rest in the glass it looks brown with a tight khaki head that lasts. Aroma is malty and burnt sugar. Taste is full of carbonation and bitter with sight coco notes and burnt sugar. Palate is thin and pure fizz with a chalky finish.
3.5 Ruddy brown with a thin tan head. Described as a nut brown. Aroma lightly mixed pecan and acorn.
3.3 22 ounce bottle poured a deep dark brown aromas of malt, molasses, chocolate, and a touch of coffee. Flavor matches the aroma, that would be a good brew to drink again.
