Flying Dog Bloodline Blood Orange IPA

Flying Dog Bloodline Blood Orange IPA

Brewed exclusively for the 2013 Craft Brewers Conference (and a collaborative project with Reyes Beverage Group), Bloodline is an intensely-hopped IPA brewed with Blood Orange peel and juice.

According to our Brewmaster Matt Brophy, the result is a flavor profile that harnessed the best aspects of both the hops (Warrior, Citra, and Galaxy) and the citrus. He and his brewing team are very fond of hop-based citrus aromas, so experimenting with actual citrus was a natural extension of that.

2014 version is brewed with Northern Brewer, Citra and Galaxy.[2014 version is not a new entry as it is a minor recipe tweak and is not marketed as a different beer. Normal beer drinkers will not know the difference. -GT2]

3.5 Bottle tasted Clear amber color with no head. Citrus to the nose with slighr resinous notes. All about blood orange prolonged with citrus hops notes with additional hoppy bittering notes. Orange bitterness in the forefront followed by orange sweet and sourness. Silky mouthfeel with medium carbonation. Finishes dry bitterness of orange persists though. Overall interesting beer with blood orange addition nicely balanced.
3.0 Twelve ounce bottle. Easily one of the best blood orange ales that I have tasted. Not over done or candy like as others do, they get the hops right here.
3.6 Very drinkable
3.0 Blikje van Beej Benders. Geeloranje, flinke kraag. Ruikt citrusfruitig, beetje boerderij. Smaakt sinaasappel, vrij bitter, vlakke smaak.
3.7 12oz. bottle into a glass chalice. Poured a hazy, effervescent, honey-amber. A foamy, 1-finger, off-white head slowly diminished to a skinny cap while leaving curtains of lace. Smell of juicy orange, grapefruit and pine with sweeter aromas of bubblegum and malty caramel later. Crisp and pungent early tastes of orange pith, grapefruit and sharp resins were softened somewhat by biscuity malts on the back end. Medium bodied with a sort of prickly mouthfeel, a dry lingering finish and a minimal bite of alcohol.
3.6 Can 33cl. @home poured into a shaker. Clear deep amber colour, good frothy off-white head, dissipating slowly, fair lacing. Aroma pale malt, orange, yeast. Taste medium sweet and bitter, malty, orange. Medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation, soft sweetbitter aftertaste, orange peel, light peppery notes, nice soft fruity IPA.
3.4 Pivo to bylo rozhodně dobré, ale asi nic co by se za každou cenu muselo importovat z USA. V současné době pivo tohoto typu nalezneme i lepší i u nás a to vůbec nemluvme o Polsku apod.
3.0 Can at home. Pours golden color, white foamy head. Aroma of citrusy hops. Taste is medium sweet, medium bitter, orange, tangerines.
3.3 Draft at Lucky's, served in a pint glass. Pours a lightly cloudy orange-gold with a finger of white head that settles into a ring, leaving trailing lace in the glass. Notes of blood orange, caramel and sweet and bready malts, hay, toast, and cardboard. Medium-bodied, with moderate carbonation and a malty, sweet, oxidized mouthfeel. Seemed like an old keg. Or maybe it's just mediocre.
3.4 Can. Hoppy aroma and taste, citrus fruit, light caramel and reain notes, lighy sweet notes, medium bitter. Medium body, hoppy citrusy bitter finish. Ok.
3.9 Bottle: 330 ml, at home Price: 2,02 eur Labai geras, pats tas žiūrint krepšinį..
2.3 Bottle, early 2018. Red orange throughout, light sulphuric notes. Sweet and watery. Boring.
3.5 335 ml bottle. Pours the color of orange soda, with a white head and thick lacing. Aroma of citrus sweetness and pithy hop notes. Taste is light sweet, light bitter, malt, little spicy hops, citrus, orangepeel.
3.4 Ipka w starym stylu, wytrawna, z wyraźnie zaznaczoną goryczką, ale nie powala jeśli chodzi o nachmielenie na aromat.
3.3 0.33 bottle @ British Club Hazy, dark orange color with a small, white head. Aroma of hops and citruses. Taste is medium bitter, fruity, piney. Medium, slick, soft. Finish is medium long, bitterer and adds a bit of dough.
3.5 Orange with a frothy white head. Mild citrus and caramel aroma. Trends floral. Taste is bitter to bittersweet with a light citric acidity. Enough caramel underneath to keep it rounded. Not much of the fruitiness I’d expected given the ale is brewed with “blood orange puree“. Interestingly, the actual ingredient list doesn’t stray beyond pure Rheinheitsgebot though, so who knows. Medium body with balanced carbonation. Not bad.
3.2 12 oz. can at the Honi Honi bar at Deep Creek Lake, MD. Pours a clear amber color with an off-white head. Strong citrus and hops aroma. The taste follows the nose. Tastes a little hoppy, but a lot of fresh citrus flavor to help balance the bitterness.
1.7 Pours the color of orange soda, with a white head and thick lacing. The label says ale, no mention of IPA, so was caught a bit off guard with the bitterness. If there is orange in it other than the color, both the aroma and the flavor is totally masked by the hops. Bitter finish and probably will appeal to the IPA drinkers, which is why it should say IPA on the label!
3.5 Pours a clear light copper/orange with a light white head which lingers......aroma of orange peel, sweet malt, hard candy.....taste is pithy backside of orange peel, bitter rind, mild hop tones, finishing clean and dry.
3.8 Pours a slightly hazy golden yellow from the bottle with fluffy white head that leaves moderate lace. Aroma of citrus sweetness and pithy hop notes over light biscuit. Taste follows, less sweet and more of the bitter hop. Not bad at all.
3.7 Tap at Konttori Pours golden yellow, white head. Malts fruityness, orange, grapefruit, fruity hops. Medium body, average carbonation, fresh fruity finish.
3.2 bottle bb 15/5/19 oro carico lieve ambrato limpida discreta schiuma media persistenza lieve agrume media secchezza amaro medio lieve spezia
3.4 Bottle @ Home. Pours slightly hazy golden with an offwhite head. Aroma of malt, little caramel, fruity hops, sweet citrus, orangepeel. Flavor is light sweet, light bitter, malt, fruit, little spicy hops, citrus, orangepeel. Medium body, average to lively carbonation, light bitter finish. 030419
3.3 Süffiger, dunkel hopfiger Antrunk. Deutliche aber weiche Herbe, hohe Süffigkeit. Mild bitter, was zum Ende hin deutlich ansteigt, moderat würzig, ausgewogen. Rund, feine Karbonisierung. Rundum gelungen. 10/11/10/11/9/11
3.4 Flasche 0,355l: Bernstein, dezente Trübung, mäßig stabiler mittelporiger Schaum; sehr fruchtige + würzige Nase, leichte fruchtig-würzige Süße, kräftige frische Hopfennoten, exotische Früchte, Orangen, Orangenschalen, Grapefruit, leicht harzig, Malz, Getreide, Hefearomen; sehr fruchtiger + würziger Körper, kräftige frische Hopfennoten, exotische Früchte, Grapefruit, Orangenschalen, Pinien, Malz, Getreide, cremig, deutliche Kohlensäure, trockene Hefearomen; angenehmer fruchtig-trockener Nachgang mit kräftigen Hopfenaromen
2.8 As an amateur reviewer but an avid ‘beer drinker’ this for me was a little above average but not particularly special, worth trying.
3.1 Très amère, intensifié par l'orange. Goût de l'orange très prononcé mais pas étouffant. Plus apprécié par les femmes.
4.2 Nem rossz, kicsit öreg volt ezért halvány ultrák az izek
2.8 Mild beer with moderate hops. Not a ton of blood orange taste and a bitter finish. Do not need to try again.
