3.912 oz bottle, pours clear orange amber with beige head. Medium to full body. Grassy malt aroma, spicy malt forward taste with strongly bitter hops finish. Packs a punch.
4.0Strong, which is good for value, but not for taste
3.5Clear orangey golden. White head, two fingers, good retention. Soft carbonation visually. Texture between oily and creamy with soft fizz. Aroma is grapefruit, resin, pine, caramelised malts, aniseed hints. Taste is grapefruit, citric peel, pine, resin, caramelised malts, grains, aniseed hints. Soft sweetness. Good resiny bitterness at the end with soft drying effect. Hot in aftertaste. The alcohol is not that well integrated but it doesn't disturb. Classic West Coast TIPA that doesn't surprise but it's really enjoyable.
4.112 oz bottle. Pours a hazy orange with a dense white head. Aromas of yeast, coriander, orange peel, and piney hops. Taste similar but also tropical juices and caramel. Tasty.
3.9Copper/amber color with well pronounced head for a 12%. Aroma is floral, piny, hoppy and malty. Taste is citrus, coriander and pine with a sharp hop bite followed by a mellow smooth malty finish. Has more American strong ale characteristics than that of an Imperial IPA. Carbonation is mild, and alcohol is well hidden.
3.8Bottle poor into nonic pint glass from Smiley's discount beverage. Appearance is clear deep orange Amber with fair lazy sparkle, 2-finger beige foamy head with fair retention and lots of soapy lacing. Aroma is subtle citrus and fruit (more apparent as it warms), dank, grass, balanced with malt backbone. Taste is dank and strong almost medicinal alcohol and sweet malts. Palate is medium body with smooth, thick texture, soft carbonation, intense alcohol warmth and finish as taste. Overall, maybe this is a little young and needs a bit of time for alcohol to mellow? Too malt forward but will need to re-rate others in 6.
4.6Very smooth, rich amber color and creamy head.
Best cool , not cold.
A beer to enjoy!
3.7On Tap, @BBF2019, Barcelona 16/03/2019
Color ambarino. aromas frutales, lupulado, sabor frutal, final seco y amargo
3.2Draught, taster. Sampled on the 16/03/2019 at "Barcelona Beer Festival 2019", (L´Hospitalet, Spain).
Clear amber colour with a medium white head. Aroma is resinous, spruce, caramel, malts and some toffee. Taste is west coast but not so fresh leading to a slightly harsh finish.
Next one please!
4.6Very smooth for an IPA. I love IPAs for their robust hoppy flavor. This might be one of the smoothed I have drank. It should be noted I have already had a few before eating it. I will still buy more.
4.0Bottle
Aroma-tropiciel fruits
Appearance-orange, hazy, white foam,
Taste-medium bitterness, medium sweetness, medium sourness,
Palate-full body, sticky, average carbonation, long finish,
Overall-very good
5.0Mmmmm! Never been a beer guy myself, but man, Double Dog Double IPA has blown me away!
3.3Bottle, Market Street Wine. Won't say shenanigans, but really, I never rated this one? Orange pour, slightly hazy, small beige head. Aroma is resin, pine, grapefruit peel. Flavor is slick resin, pine, grapefruit peel, light pineapple, pepper, caramel, peach, and apricot.
4.1Amber clear beer with a great head as it was on Nitro at Fire Works Pizza. Nice Lacing also, boozy in a pleasant way and big bitter finish.
3.8Dark amber, light cream head. Strong malty character with big hops aroma and finish. Some caramel, vanilla. Nice.
3.5355 ml bottle bought at Q-Club in SoHo, Central.
Looks: Clear amber colour; Half finger head with soapy white foam which fades in 30 seconds; Fair sticky lacing with sparse slight carbonation.
Aroma: Fragrant and sweet full Ale malt, with grapefruits, light caramel, floral, sugar, spices, biscuits, strong lemon and grass.
Taste: Close to strong sweet rich Ale malt, with grapefruits, thin caramel, floral, sugar, spices, fair resins, dry biscuits, strong lemon, close to strong bitter hops and grass.
Body: Full body. Thick and fairly oozy palate.
Mouth Feel: Rich Ale maltyness in a viscous background. Strong amberness, pretty straight forward grapefruit hop profile with some caramel backdrop. Flowery with strong but pleasant sweetness, not too syrupy. Strong spicy with fair bits of ooze. Dry biscuity with strong lemon to round. Simple but nice!
Alcohol: The 11.5% abv is well-managed, well-hidden with no knock-on. Complimented by nice sweetness. No mean feat!
Hoppiness: Grapefruits, floral, spices, strong lemon and grass in nose, same in taste with resins; Bitterness is strong for a lasting, high astringent sweet-bitter rich Amber malty finish.
After Taste: Quite dry. Citrusy spicy and strong bitter to mouth.
Comments: As Double IPA, this one's approach is so straight forward I thought it might be too sweet, too oozy, and too bitter for no good reason. Thankfully this is not one of those: Rich malty body with bits of caramel here and there. Strong grapefruit and spicy hops with just the right amount of ooze, and it's not too sweet with hidden booze. Way better than Snake Dog and a perfect sipper!
3.6Bottle 355ml, a clear copper beer with medium head. Nose is on hop resin, pine, caramel. Aroma is on hop resin, pine, quite bitter, toasted caramel, quite sweet, oily texture, barley sugar, robust bit low on the aromatic hops, finish on bitter almond.
3.9Aromat: mocno dojrzałe i słodkie owoce tropikalne, nieco karmelków owocowych i ziół.
Wygląd: złoty bursztyn, czyściutkie i przejrzyste, biała, średnia piana, średniopęcherzykowa, szybko opada.
Sporo cytrusów i sosny.
Odczucie: pełne, oleiste, alkohol dobrze ukryty, nisko wysycone, finisz gorzkie.
3.912-oz. bottle pours clear golden-orange with a very small off-white head and lacing. Aroma: citrus, honey, tropical fruits -- all faint. Flavor: malt-forward (caramelized brown sugar, honey), with peaches, apricots, pineapple, papaya, mango, blood orange, pine resins. Mouthfeel: full-bodied, oily, boozy burn.
4.1UT300118. 12fl oz battle at home from Burg Bieren, Ermelo. Nose is Tropical fruits. Honey pine fruit liquor. Medium to heavy sweet heavy bitter light fruity sour. Long hoppy heavy bitter, boozy. Medium body creamy medium carb. Overhopped 758516
4.2Bottle from Giant in Ashburn Shopping Plaza in Virginia
Aroma: caramel, citrus, dark fruit. pine, alcohol,
Appearance: amber with a white head
Taste: medium sweetness, medium bitterness,
Palate: full body, sticky, average carbonation, bitter finish
Tasty
3.6Bottle@home, from Beer Republic. Strong, bold nuances with huge hops, highly overaged fruits like mango and ripe, also a hint of malts. Alcohol comes trough quite clearly. Averagely balanced. Medium taste spectrum and long, hoppy aftertaste with highly hopped dry fruits. Medium/strong body with medium/light carbonation. Overall, sturdy, hardcore, too much alcohol.
3.4Backlog. Zapach: Gryzący, czuć alkohol. Owoc tropikalny jakiś delikatny banan. Smak: ciężki, goryczka (żywica, jakaś sosna). Sporo nieprzyjemnego alkoholu. Mocne, aż gryzie. Bez szału i ciężko się pije. Wybitnie degustacyjne.
3.7From Apr 2008
This pours a clear orange gold with a small maybe 1 finger head of foam that soon shrinks to a fine layer. It has some nice lacing.
The smell has a nice balanced nose of piney hops and caramel malt with some alcohol. It's a light smell here but the balance makes it inviting.
The taste matches the nose nicely! Caramel malt working very well together with both piney and a bit of citrus hops. Nice overall taste here but man, the abv is definitely giving me a warm fuzzy feeling but it's only after the swallow.
Nice fairly thick mouthfeel and lightish carbonation. It finishes as balanced as it started. Quite a tasty DIPA and pretty drinkable given how strong it is...certainly worthy of a revisit.
Cost: US$7.99 a 4-pack and it's the 2008 vintage with "brewed by Flying Dog Brewery, Frederick, Maryland" on the label.
