Flying Dog Garde Dog Bière de Garde

Flying Dog Garde Dog Bière de Garde

“Garde Dog” Biere de Garde is unfiltered with a hazy, deep golden to light copper appearance. Brewed with domestically grown French Hops and German Pilsner Malts, it gives craft beer drinkers a very enjoyable, light-bodied, subtlety sweet beer with toasty malt undertones. Garde Dog is the perfect compleiment to lighter fare such as seafood, salads, cheese and Middle Eastern and Indian foods

2.9 Location/Date:Bottle on June 9th, 2012. Appearance: Pours a yellow clear. Aroma: Aroma is malty, faint pine. Taste: Faint bitterness, almost like a saison, really sweet.. Palate:Light body, really fizzy that turns me off. Syrupy. Summary: Maybe I’m not a fan of the style, this is just okay to me.
2.9 I need to stop buying Americanized French ales. Actually, the last I had was Green Flash’s saison and that was in a different setting as where I am right now (at home, with it as a dessert rather than at a bar with company). The two taste similar. The palate especially -- too spritzy and light for me, but that’s when it’s out of the fridge and that is what I think it ought to be really. However, for a beer to be kept for aging, I’m doing it wrong. It’s better a little bit warm (some nice dough comes out and the mouthfeel is heavier) and I’ll save the rest of the pack for awhile from now. I’m not sure what to rate this as it is, but if the brewery releases it without aging it, then I see it as fit for immediate consumption. I would enjoy this a lot more when paired with food. It compliments others not itself.
3.5 Poured from a 12 ounce bottle into a Duvel Tulip, 2012 release. A: Hazy amber/golden body with a towering off-white rocky head despite a moderately gentle pour. S: Rather bright aroma with slight peppery spice. Mild citrus brightness from this, mild toasted malts. T: Sweet slightly toasted malts with semi-sweet citrus, some caramel notes as well. A peppery spice hits the back of my throat. This is interesting, and has good complexity to this. M: Medium bodied, with fresh carbonation on the tongue. O: I’ve not had any other beers from this style, but this is intriguing enough for me to look into others.
2.4 I have no idea what Biere de Garde is supposed to be, so this should be good. Lots of foamity foam. Kind of an alcohol aroma. Sour mouth. Unsure.
3.3 In bottle at the Delirium Cafe, Brussels. Pours a dark golden colour with a fair white head. Aroma of alcohol, candy sugar, caramel and alcohol. Similar flavours with lingering candy sugar and alcohol. Mild carbonation and CO2 prickle with an oily mouth-feel. OK.
4.0 golden with one finger head. fruity and tart with some funk. really like this one. smooth and very easy to drink.
3.2 Serving: 12 oz. bottle from State Line Liquors. It pours a hazy light gold with a rocky and active white head. The nose has a bit of yeast, coriander, straw, and dry grass. The flavor is grassy with light Belgian yeast, bubblegum, spicy hop notes and a slight metallic bit. Light in body with very high carbonation (a bit too much in fact) but short, clean finish. Not bad, but it lacks some of the farmhouse character in more traditional examples.
3.1 Cloudy straw yellow color with a white soapy head. Aroma of lemon, grass, and yeast. Lemon and grass flavor with hint of Belgian yeast. Creamy. Decent beer for a style I care little for.
3.2 This is my first of the style. I know this isn’t the best representation, but it sure is the most accessible. Poured into a white wine glass. Pours a translucent dark gold. A large inch-thick white head tops it off and retains extremely well, as it is constantly fed by the ever-rising bubbles. The nose is ripe with floral tones, buttery bread, yeast, subtle spice. Really lively mouth. Bubbly pop at each sip. The flavor profile really reminds me of a mild Saison, which I guess is sort of the point. Yeast-y, but not overly so. Actually, there’s some nice pale fruit flavors pulling through, mixing well with the husky dry back end. This is a decent drink right here. My interest is only piqued now. I enjoy a Saison here and there, and I will add this to the list of a style I will revisit time and again
3.4 Bottle from Total Wine, Sacramento. Pours cloudy golden wtih a massive off-white head and a fruity aroma. There is a sweet pilsner flavor with a strong yeast presence and a slightly sour finish.
3.3 Bottle. Hazy bright yellow pour with a white head. Nose is Belgian yeast, grain, and malt. Moderate palate. Taste is light and refreshing - lemon, grass, yeast, and malt. Nice brew.
3.5 Golden pour, clear with nice one finger head. Grainy aroma and flavor with funkiness aplenty. Good style representation here. Solid effort.
3.6 Bottle: Pour is orange/gold with a thick white foamy head. aroma is malty, slightly grainy, biscuity, light fruit and earthiness to it. grassy hop. Flavour has a light bready sweetness to it. mown hay/grassy hop presence and some tartness to the finish. Overall a very drinkable beer. Would go very well with many food pairings as I see they recomend.
3.5 Refrigerated bottle poured into a shaker. Pours hazy golden with big fluffy white head that dissapates a bit. A fair amount of lacing, medium body, well carbonated, and citrus aroma. Taste is light tart wheat citrus, some bread, with a dry finish. Refreshing.
3.2 Pours a hazy golden color with a full, frothy head. Aroma is rather faint. Notable is citrus and lemon. Taste is very dry and very carbonated. It as quite sweet as well. Citrus and fruity flavors are present. Overall, I thought this was pretty good.
3.6 Aromas of bubbly citrus, lemon, vanilla and small fruit notes. Bright pale gold in color with a large foam head. Strong carbonation with citrussy flavors upfront with doughy, bready characteristics on the finish. Thin texture with a very subtle syrupy body. Overall, a strongly flavored brew with great drinkability. The carbonation is a little overbearing but nevertheless another good, cold one from Flying Dog.
2.4 I wanted to like this beer but I couldn’t. At first it’s bitter in a bad way and then it’s just meh after a few.
3.3 Aroma is strongly wheat with a hint of citrus. Taste is plenty of wheat and spice with some citrus. Overall pretty good.
3.7 Bottle from Best Damn Beer Shop: Poured a vibrant glowing yellow hue with a weak topping of head which quickly retreated. Nose is bold with a blend of German Hefeweizen and Belgian saison aroma that gives off a smell of fruit and spice such as banana, clove, and coriander. Drink is initially tart yet puckers up a soft kiss of sweetness but also does has a spicy profile that makes this an interesting beer recipe considering the other Biere De Garde styles I’ve had were boring and bland. Nice surprise by Flying Dog.
3.7 I’m not familiar with this style, so pardon my blind enjoyment of it. This beer was good stuff. It was a sort of spicy hefeweizen, foggy blond in color and veggie-orange citrus flavor. Medium bodied and full flavored, this one mixes things up. It makes me want to try more biere de gardes.
3.4 Dark Orange and Hazy when poured. Smell is very malty and earthy with a few sour notes which come off as unpleasant. The taste however is much better with Sweet Banana, Cloves, and Malty flavors, it comes off tasting much like a Hefeweizen which I’m fine with. I liked this beer and I think it’s worth checking out
3.0 Pours hazy yollow-orange with a decent 1" head. yeasty, slightly sour smell over fruits. Citrus flavour, very wine-ish, and wheat beer-like at the same time. Very similar to saison.
3.0 S: straw gold, slight haze, white head, not much collar, good lacing A: slight peppery clove smell, a little banana esters T: very light, taste follows nose, good taste, but finishes quick, slight sour taste O: solid beer overall, but doesn’t offer a lot; refreshing, crisp, shallow
3.0 Yeasty, somewhat stale aroma. Light citrus and yeast flavor but lacks complexity. Good for a hot day.
2.8 The pour is a hazy golden color with a rather large white head. Just an overdone spiciness. Smells overwhelmingly of coriander and grass. A bit of paper/cardboard and maybe some pale, cracker malts. Hints of spicy hops in the background. The flavor is lemony and mildly spicy, sort of like a bad witbier or hefeweizen. Spicy hop notes and quite a lot of water. Very grassy on the palate as well. Meh.
3.4 Bottle. Pours a cloudy yellow with a one finger white head. Smells of bread and yeast, tiny bit of clove. Taste is lightly bitter, sweet finish. Solid palate with a good bit of carbonation on the tongue. Solid version of the style.
3.3 12oz bottle, bottled 2012. Mostly clear golden color, foamy off-white one-finger head. Thin, continuously ascending bubbles. Little, even lace. Moderate, but very smooth carbonation. Nice bit of clove aroma, not unlike a decent hefe. Nice spice taste. A satisfying biere de garde.
3.4 Bottle. Cloudy yellow with a light white foamy head. Sweet light fruity and malty aroma. Strong carbonation with sweetness in the taste. Nice beer.
2.5 Bottle purchased at Whole Foods in Manhattan New York. Pours a hazy amber colour, with a white head that dies down to a ring and some spots of lacing here and there. Aroma is kind of off putting initially, then I get a little bit of a kolbossa smell, that eventually gives way to the scent of a chardonnay. Tastes bitter and a little malt.
3.0 Sorry for the german rating, but this is a lousy rating from my "newbie" time (2007-2009), and it’s not worth of being translated. I just added it for the statistics, and to complete my backlog!
