Flying Dog Gonzo Imperial Porter

Flying Dog Gonzo Imperial Porter

Like Hunter S. Thompson...Gonzo Imperial Porter is deep and complex. This turbo charged version of the Road Dog Porter is mysteriously dark with a rich malty body, intense roasted flavors, and a surprisingly unique hop kick. With Gonzo weighing in at 9.2% ABV, it will bite you in the ass if you don’t show it the proper respect.

3.7 Taken after supper after a nice crab meat stir fry, strong stout, somewhat rich, but the competition is tough in this style.
4.2 0,33l bottle. Thick dark colour with yeast drops and a long lasting foamy light brown head. Aroma: Blueberry and blackcurrant with milk chocolate notes. With some time it shows some matured cheese/funky tones. Taste: Full sweet malty start with gentle tarty/fruity (blackcurrant) tone and a robust full hoppy/bitter mouthfeel. The biterness is similar to a bitter herb liquor. Strong. Also has a hiding smoke/ash kind of feel in the sip. The alcohol is very well hidden. Full body with medium carbonation. Long lasting intense bitter finish.
3.8 Boozy, chocolate, cocoa, sweet, pitch black, chocolate and caramelized sugar, medium body, soft carbonation.
3.4 Pours black with small tan head that leaves lacing behind. Aroma of roasted malts. Medium creamy body texture. Low carbonation as expected from style. Taste of roasted malts and vanilla with well balanced finish that's neither sweet or bitter. Hides alcohol well.
3.9 12 oz bottle from the LCBO. Pours a very dark brown colour with modest-sized tan head. Aroma is quite roasty with cocoa and some anise. Flavour has rich dark chocolate, smoke, woodsiness and light licorice. Lingering bitterness. ABV is subtle. Nice.
4.0 355ml bottle from the LCBO. Very dark mahogany with a small short lived dark tan head. Nose is dark chocolate, molasses and coffee. Light + molasses sweetness with a big dark chocolate and coffee bitterness. Medium+ creamy mouth with slightly soft carbonation and a dry warming finish. 8/3+/9/4-/16
W tle gorzka czekolada, nieco kakao i kawy. Na granicy autosugestii nutki ciemnych owoców. Cialo srednie, nasycenie niskie, alkohol ulozony niewyczuwalny.
3.8 Creamy tan head stayed on a near black still body. Malt, demerara & coal aroma. Medium to full bodied, smooth with a dry back. Malt, burnt, smoked, roasted & tobacco tastes with a long tangy finish. Top drawer.
3.9 near black ppur, dark brown head. Dark chocolate, nuts, lighter coffee notes in the aroma, slight bit of booze. Dark chocolate and light har up front, roasted nuts, dark caramel, grassy hops. Mouthfeel is slightly astringent with a medium to thicker body and warming finish. Solid porter to sip through the evening with a uniquely layered taste.
4.2 10% ABV. opaque dark brown beige head. hot alcohol aroma, coffee, caramel. taste is a range of nuttiness, cocolate, astringent, heavily hopped with dank notes. lots of layers of burnt/charred/toasted and great hazelnuts/toasted peanuts. mouthfeel is hot and thick. fun. better than expected, will buy again.
3.5 It pours jet-black and opaque; the head is caramel coloured and mousse-like that dissipates slowly. The aroma has notes of: rum, charcoal, alcohol, leather, licorice, and burnt sugar. The taste is medium sweet that finishes heavy bitter. The palate is a medium-full body; has low carbonation; has a long bitter finish. Overall, a little cloying but definitely crushable.
3.7 355ml bottle with 10% ABV from the LCBO. Aromas of molasses and hints of Bourbon over the roasted malts. Coffee notes eventually come out with a tad nuttiness, caramel and hops. Dark brown colour, almost black with light copper highlights, a creamy, frothy, light mocha-coloured head, very good retention and beautiful creamy lacing. Good bitterness in the mouth lingering showing some grassy hops. Roasted malt background, but not much more. Just really hoppy, bitter, Imperial Porter.
3.7 12oz bottle. Black with a thick foamy tan head. Flavors are roasted cereals, burnt toast, toffee, vanilla, licorice and alcohol with earthy and spicy notes. Full body, moderate carbonation, oily texture.
3.9 355ml bottle from LCBO. Pours a deep brown colour with a small beige headAromas of coffee, roasted malts and tobacco. Taste matches the aroma that leads to spicy, peppery finish. Full bodied with moderate carbonation.

3.9 Media pinta @ Líquidos Almacén de Cervezas, Zaragoza. Color marrón oscuro, espuma color marrón abundante. Muy buena retención. Aromas a caramelo tostado, torrefactos. Sabor a café intenso, chocolate negro, licorosa y un punto amargo. Post gusto a café y malta tostada. Excelente imperial porter.
3.7 Pours nearly black w/ a foamy tan head & bubbly lacing. The aroma has a nice combo of chocolate & booze. The flavor is roasty & rather bitter. It’s just average on the palate & overall a good porter.
1.9 0,33 liter bottle from old cellar collection. BBF 2012. Black with light brown head. Coffee, roasted malts. Old, oxidation...
3.6 12 ounce bottle in Kent Ohio. Smell the malt. Black in color with beige head. Taste the malt with some alcohol. Pretty smooth with alcohol finish. Interesting beer that I like. Cheers!
4.2 12 ounce bottle. Vintage 2019. Opaque black color. pillowy tan head is a half-finger high and firm. Rich roasted malt aroma. Bitter roasted malt flavor upfront. Notes of espresso, charcoal, resin and warming alcohol. Extremely intense and bitter. Finishes with hints of burnt toast and dark unsweetened baker’s chocolate. Not nearly as sweet as earlier reviews have indicated.
3.7 Dark ale with smooth the head which thinks it quite quickly. The smell is weet and malty. Upon tasting a bitter sweet flavour and an alcoholic kick.
3.9 12oz bottle from Vieux Carre Wines & Spirits, New Orleans, LA and drunk on 29/06/2008. A rich and smooth Impy stout, the kind of which I was not having nearly enough of in New Orleans!
2.6 Aroma : Deeply roasted rich chocolate and toffee malts, some black treacle, hint of coffee, dried candied red fruits and some damp earthy hop and alcohol! Taste : All the flavours from the aroma are present in spades, but it's spoilt by being overpoweringly sweet. Body is so thick/syruppy you can nearly stan a spoon up in it. Shame it lacks a bittering balance would then have been outstanding!
3.9 Bottle. Malty aroma and taste, chocolate, coffee, roasty notes, light vanilla, light sweet notes, medium bitter. Full body, malty chocolate bitter sweet finish with light alcohol warming notes. Good.
3.9 [as Flying Dog Gonzo Imperial Porter, ABV 10.0%] Bottiglia. Arco olfattivo dominato da caffè e cioccolato. L'olfatto viene stimolato in maniera elevata, permanendo in maniera apprezzabile.
3.8 Dense dark poor, satisfying foamy brownish head with graceful carbonation. Aroma of burnt toast, caramelised sugars and medicinal earthiness. A balanced palette offers a smooth medley of roasted malts and undulating bitterness.
