Flying Dog Raging Bitch Belgian-Style IPA

Flying Dog Raging Bitch Belgian-Style IPA

Flying Dog Brewery will celebrate its 20th Anniversary a few months early on Friday, September 25th (the brewery turns 20 next year). The brewery will be sampling the new Raging Bitch Belgian-style India Pale Ale at the Flying dog Brats And Gonzo party in Denver that day as part of the Great American Beer Fest happening that week (unscramble the FBAG acronym to get GABF). More info about the fest can be found on the official Flying Dog blog.

The beer also appeared on draft at this past weekend’s Gonzofest party. Al from Hop Talk was in attendance and reported on his blog, “I understand it’s made from an augmented Snake Dog wort with an exclusive Belgian yeast strain (called Diablo) and dry-hopped with a load of Amarillo hops. They’re calling it a Belgian IPA. It was really good. It had that hop bite from a big, bad American IPA with the banana and bubblegum from the Belgian yeast.”

Some may remember a beer called, Raging Bitch Birch Beer, that Flying Dog introduced on April 1st. Whereas that low-gravity series beer was a joke, this beer is anything but at 8% ABV (60 IBU).

Propaganda from the label: “Two inflammatory words…one wild drink. Nectar imprisoned in a bottle. Let it out. It is cruel to keep a wild animal locked up. Uncap it. Release it…stand back! Wallow in its golden glow in a glass beneath a white foaming head. Remember, enjoying a RAGING BITCH, unleashed, untamed, unbridled – and in heat – is pure GONZO!! It has taken 20 years to get from there to here. Enjoy!” – Ralph Steadman

3.7 Sabor a naranja con toque amargo final.
3.8 355 ml bottle. Pours cloudy amber with a creamy head. Lots of resin and pine, caramel, zesty grapefruit notes, hints of coriander and Belgian yeasts. Hoppy bitterness, malty sweetness. Full bodied, oily texture, soft to lively carbonated, hoppy bittersweet finish. Really nice!
3.7 Thin beige head left a spotty cover on an amber coloured still body. Malt & hoppy citrus aroma. Medium bodied, lively & clean on the back. Spiced, herbal, bitter, pine & yeast tastes with a fruity finish. It's a good one!
3.5 33cl flaska. Gyllenorange öl med ett smutsvitt skum. Doft och smak av citrus, persika, tallbarr, bröd och viss jästighet.
3.6 Beauty in the glass with healthy upward streaming bubbles in a moderately cloudy yet shiny copper fill. Non lasting smallish but sudsy head with a sticky lacing. Oranges or citrus other fragrant in the nose. Yeast / malt alcoholic but tasteful. And then a definite Hop bitter punctuated by the fizz on the tongue to a full stop. Well made. ABV content slowly comes on to offset the bitterness in the finish which is satisfying, and craftily delivered.
2.9 Old
3.6 Nesten klar brun farge med høyt off-white skum. Lukter belgisk gjær, alkohol, karamell. Smaker noe fruktig og karamell. Litt oljete i munnfølelse.
4.1 12oz Flasche. Dunkelgelbes naturtrübes Bier, cremig-fester hoher Schaum. Aprikosen, Marzipan und Hefeduft. Intensiv. Fruchtig im Antrunk. Aprikose, Mandarine, Orange, Hefe. Runde Bitternoten. Geschmack ist auch sehr dicht. Bitterer Hefe Abgang. Ein Hauch Bittermandel. Schwierige Kategorie, das hier passt aber gut.
4.1 Good Belgian IPAs have crazy complex aromas and this Raging Bitch doesn't disappoint. A yeasty beasty, yes, but also pine resin, lemons, oranges and distant wheat bread. Excellent, sharp hop bite but enough caramel sweetness for at least a passing attempt at balance. As a long-time Ralph Steadman fan, I find myself edging the appearance score a point higher for Flying Dog brews because of Ralph's blasted label artwork. From a bottle that encourages consumption for optimal freshness by 02.27.21
3.3 Crisp, very hoppy, got some woody flavor to it. Definitely has that classic IPA taste to it with a little bite at the end. Also the ABV isn’t bad either ;)
3.9 Beautiful belgian ale IPA light and balanced with crisp hops. Excellent drinkability with a signature IPA flavor. No too bitter for noobs. Simple done well.
4.5 Nice start and finish.
3.6 Old rating from 15-01-15 - 355ml bottle, pours a dark amber with a white head. Aromas & tastes of citrus, caramel, fruits, honey, herbal, wood, hints of spice & yeast. Medium body. Long medium bitter finish. Highly enjoyable
3.6 Pours a clear bright amber with a white head. Aroma has a combination of malt and hops. Taste is initially sweetish with a hint of honey, but increasing bitterness in the finish. Slightly sticky mouthfeel, medium carbonation.
3.5 33cl bottle from Hopt, France. Pours brilliant amber, with fine white foam. Aroma is malty and hoppy, fruity and a little honey. Body is average, like carbonation. Taste is medium-high bitter, though with some underlying sweetness. Final has persistent bitterness.
3.5 355ml can. Nice looking amber color with thick head. Smell of hops, but not as "ipaish" as you could think. Kind of soft smell for a 8.3 belgium ipa. Strong taste that fades quickly. Good beer, but expected more.
3.6 12 oz bottle. Pours a dark amber with a tight white head. Yeasty and sweet malt smells. Wheaty yeast forward Belgian flavors with a lingering sour side-of-mouth hoppy finish. Below average carbonation with a mildly sticky mouthfeel. It works pretty well throughout.
3.6 Bottiglia.
4.6 Very light and refreshing
3.7 Found out of a variety pack from BP in Sylva, North Carolina. Slight light hop aroma. Not overwhelmingly hoppy but certainly enjoyable.
4.0 Such a nice and deep taste to it brilliant
3.9 Keg at Beer Temple, Amsterdam on 14/12/2009. Really nice Belgian IPA; with a great mix of new world hop bitterness and fruity Belgian yeast esters.
3.9 Twelve ounce bottle. A very full mouthfeel and a mature citrus finish with a clear nose. Very frothy with a nice kick.
3.4 12oz bottle. Pours a clear amber-gold with a moderate off-white head. Aroma is caramel, wood, spicy Belgian yeast, some orange, some banana, slight booze, and a little pine. The aroma is complex, I just wish it was a little more vibrant. Taste is caramel, spice, Belgian yeast, orange marmalade, some bread, a little banana, and dried apricot. Dry finish with lots of spicy yeast. Some bitterness. A very slight booziness. Medium body. Moderate, subtle carbonation. Oily mouthfeel. [3/5]
3.7 Bottle. Pours hazy amber with an off white head. Aroma of orange marmalade, marzipan, pine, hops. Taste: moderate sweet, rich hoppy, Belgian yeast. Medium bodied, soft carb, long lingering bitterness on the finish.
4.0 From bottle at Cardinal with JFE at the opening day 06.05.20 after the corona lockdown. Translucent orange. Bright white head and lacing. Fine aroma and taste of Jaffa cakes, marmalade, bitter grapefruit, pine and pale malt. Good bitterness is lingering on.
4.1 Amber with off white head. Marmalade, pineapple, pine. Symphony of jaffacake and great balance
3.0 Aroma leggero di agrumi, malto, frumento e lievito belga. In bocca sentori erbacei, agrumi, lievito belga e alcol. Bevibile ma non ben bilanciata.
4.2 23-04-2020 Cerveza de estilo IPA elaborada con levadura belga. Sabores de lúpulo de pino y pomelo y notas de fruta exótica.
3.4 Home. 33 cl bottle. A clear amber coloured beer with a thin white foam layer. Aroma is with light malty and somewhat hops. Aroma start a little sweet, caramel, becomes a little sticky.Besides this an upcoming hop bitterness, which became somewhat dry. Also late little sticky. Not so fruity bitter as you can expect from a Belgian style IPA.
