Flying Dog Road Dog Porter

Flying Dog Road Dog Porter

Road Dog was the first label Ralph Steadman designed which later inspired Hunter S. Thompson’s "Road Dog" essay. We then spent four years fighting for the right to display their now famous quote "Good Beer No Shit." To make a long story short, we won. Let us hoist a pint to free speech, NO CENSORSHIP, the genius of Ralph Steadman, and the Gonzo Spirit of Hunter S. Thompson!

3.2 A- Pour an extremely dark brown letting very little light pass through. S- Light grain, toasted malt. T- Lightly roasted flavor, hints of burnt toast. Not a whole lot going on. M- Medium bodied with a decent amount of carbonation. D- There was nothing objectionable about this beer but absolutely nothing special.
2.6 Bottle: deep brown pour, some faint clarity near the edges with a khaki colored head that recedes quickly. Aroma is somewhat mild, with notes of light chocolate malt, roast, caramel, & light prune. Taste is a touch watered down with stronger licorice flavors; anise, roast, caramel, notable malt finish with a touch of bitterness, bother from the roast & some moderate hopping. Far from the best in the style, but easy to choke down.
3.5 Decent porter, but not much more. Has the characteristics of a classic porter, but does not rise above mediocrity.
3.2 Bottle 0.33l at home. Originally rated 28082012. Colour is dark brown with small head. Aromas and flavours: Coffee and roasted malts.
3.4 (Bottle 355 ml) Dark brown/mahagoni color with ruby flashes, brown, small, fast falling head. Medium body, creamy texture, moderate carbonation. Aroma: Malty, medium sweet, delicate roastiness, caramel, red fruits, a hinch of chocolate. Taste: Smooth, malty, caramel, low roastiness, light hoppy, short finish, a bit roasty.
2.9 Pour is dark brown with an averaged sized tan head. Aroma is faint - roasted malts, molasses, coffee. Flavor and body are thin and much like the aroma.

4.0 Gentle metal and aged malt on the nose; this isn’t as fresh as would be ideal. Looks great though; a rich, consistent, coffee brown color and an appreciably thick cream head. Despite a dilapidated aroma, the flavor is great, albeit definitively mellow. A porter, cut and dry.
3.3 355 ml bottle. Originally rated on 20090821. Pours dark brown color with a small head. Aroma of hops, roasted malts and some caramel and cocoa notes. Flavor of caramel, roasted malts, hops, fruits and toffee notes.
3.7 Brown color with ruby reflex and ivory creamy and persistent head. Malt caramel aroma, toffee, chocolate, red fruit and blackcurrant. At taste is light sweet with caramel and blackcurrant flavour, dry.
3.1 Refrigerated 12 oz. brown bottle poured into a shaker. Pours translucent dark brown with medium brown highlights with small beige head. A little lacing, thin body, medium/low carbonation, and light chocolate aroma. Taste is light dark malt and light vegetable hops. A little thin, but pretty easy to drink.
3.3 35,5 cl bottle @ home. Rated on 28.08.2009 Aroma is somewhat roasted with toffee and licorice. Flavour has roasted notes, some toffee, licorice and hints of coffee. Quite thin palate. Does not work, just too straightforward and thin. That ’NO CENSORSHIP’ makes me smile as the Gonzo porter was blocked from Alko due to the cigarette in the label.
2.9 Reddish brown colour with medium off white head. Aroma, wood, chocolate, coffee, nuts. Full oily body, medium carbonation. Taste is very watery, with nuts, chocolate and coffee. Not bad, but also not that good.
2.8 Not one of the best of Flying Dog Brewery. The beer is lame and misses a specific taste.
3.2 a light porter... some chocolat and coffee... well balanced bitterness and sweetness... very short finish...
3.8 Delicious, prominent aroma of hops, chocolate and sweet caramel. Pours a dark brown with a smooth white head. Complex taste involving hops, spices, chocolate, butterscotch and caramel. Fantastic Flying Dog ’bite’ thrown in there too, but still goes down smooth. Loved this porter.
3.5 Not a bad porter. Drier than most, with a nice smooth, roasted chocolate character.
3.3 Cerveza negra con espuma ligera. Olores a dulces, café. Sabor a café, regaliz, tostado. Cuerpo ligero y medio gas. Mejor no demasiado fría.
3.4 Bottle@home from drinkstore Dark brown with ruby highlights. dry chocolate and redcurrant on the nose, dry roasted malts, touch of residual sweetness. Some higher alcohols as it warms gives a touch of vegetal harshness in the finish.
3.3 Apariencia: Color marrón oscuro y espuma cremosa. Aroma: Tostado con notas de cacao. Sabor: A café tostado y regusto seco.
3.1 355ml. Brown colour with an avergae beige head, with medium duration. Aroma is toasty, some citrus and smoky notes. Flavor is coffee, chocolate, slightly ctrus notes, ashes traces. The final is medium dry with a mild bitterness with good duration. Carbonation and body are medium.
2.1 Bottle at Ipanema bar, Thessaloniki: Dark color with small white head. Aroma of coffee and malt. Taste is very light, some coffee, some caramel. Oily body and medium carbonation. Overall, not gonna try it again. Did not like it.
3.0 Poured dark reddish brown with a thin broken white head. The aroma was weak but there were malty hints. The flavour is medium bitter with liqourice and some yeasty notes on the palate. This isn’t a real porter in my opinion. It lacks that chewy malt in the flavour. It’s rather drinkable and quite refreshing, but nothing special.
2.7 Bottle. Dark brown with a rather small head. Faint aroma of roasted grain and licorice plus shy hints of butter, pumpernikel bread, earth, chocolate and dark fruit. Many aroma elements, though unfortunately failing to impress. Medium carbonation, watery body, not really flavourful. Rather strong bitterness, with roast and chocolate in the flavour and earthy notes in the aftertaste. Boring.
3.1 Smells a little like malted barley. Pours dark brown with a little creamy head. Some lacing. Taste has virtually nothing to it. A little nutty bitterness. A little sourness. Boring. Bottle.
3.4 Not a great Porter but it’s a good beer. Great marketing. Lacks strength in typical Porter characteristics including of color, aroma, and flavor. A little malts comes through but they are too weak in my opinion. High carbonation for a Porter and tastes a little watery compared to better Porters. Still, I’ll enjoy it every time I have it.
3.1 355ml. Bottle. Poors clear dark brown with nice creamy head. Aroma is dark fruits, hops, choco, caramel. Taste choco bitter, with a fruity sweet. Mouth-feel thin. Not the best porter I’ve tasted, lacks porter character.
3.3 Some roasted malts come through with a nice burnt, bitter finish. Body is a bit thin though.
