3.2 Beautiful pour - candy amber hue in the beer with an above average meringue jiggly head that retains well. Nice bready and hoppy aroma. The NOSE is very balanced. On the palate this beer screams American IPA. Unbalanced, mostly hops, little malt, and slightly thin mouthfeel. It’s almost like... sucking on a dry tree leaf from the ground in October. The malt just doesn’t compliment the hops very well. I feel teased because the nose is so inviting, but then on the palate it snaps at me with the hops. Yes, I know it’s an IPA, but that doesn’t mean balance can’t be a part of the equation. Not very drinkable either. Takes some effort to finish the pint, and it just doesn’t make me yearn for the next sip like other IPA’s often do.
3.0 Old record... I didn’t even know they changed the recipe until I went to log this entry... I’ll have to try the new one. Not all that different from their classic pale ale, just a little bit more bitter, but lacks the balance and complexity of an awesome IPA.
4.0 On Tap at the Flying Dog Brewery Tap, Denver 12/10/2007 (Hopped with Warrior & Columbus ABV 6.4%) Very hoppy and fruity aroma. Clear golden coloured and very hoppy with a citrus fruit flavour. Crisp and bitter malt finish.
2.6 ***review from Nov 14, 2007*** Standard light amber - very clear with no hint of haze at all. Poured a large off off-white / tan, long lasting creamy head with good lacing. The aroma is of peppermint....no, more of a mint - a sharp fresh mint with a definete herbal touch. some candied grapefruit and thick malt. The taste is very herbal and needs more hop flavour (where’s the grapefruit?). Large mint. Some bready malts. Nice carbonation, soft and smooth. Just above medium bodied, long lasting bitterness. This is not a fair comparrision but I put this head to head against Stone Ruination and this stuff is no where near Stone...or no where near most other AIPA’s I’ve had.
3.0 Poured yellow with fluffy white head. Aroma of pine. Good pine flavor with a nice balance of malt and some citrus in the finish.
3.3 This beer poured a dark honey brown with a hint of red thrown in; just a tiny skiff of head was produced and that disappeared very quickly. The aroma was all hops, grape fruity hops to be more specific, good hop smell strong but not overpowering. Just like the aroma the taste is all grape fruit hops but its not to bitter until it has left your mouth then there’s an intense bitterness left in your mouth. I like this IPA a lot more then most I would be able to drink more then a couple in an evening
3.5 Bottle. 5.6% ABV. Nice head with good duration. Color is amber. Aroma and taste are hops, grass, flowers and malt. Nice bitter finish.
3.1 (35.5cl bottle) Almost clear, amber colour with a short and slightly off-white foamy head. Slightly sweet malty and sourish fruity nose with a touch of dust and lemon-fruity hops. Moderately bitter flavour, medium to light bodied with a crispy mf. Soft malty base with light notes of licorice and a good dash of (grape-)fruity hops. Dry and moderately bitter and fruity finish. Surely a drinkable brew, but also almost a bit disappointing by FD standards (19.II.08).
3.7 355 ml bottle. Clear, golden orange body with a dense off-white head. Sweet and heavy hoppy/citrus + hay aroma. Flavor has a sharp, prompt bitterness, giving a dry feeling even realizing this is a quite sweet beer. Balanced but not much malt flavor here.
3.3 Gold in color with a small off-white head. Aroma is of caramel and hops. Flavor is of citrus, hops and caramel.
3.3 12oz bottle from 2007. pours an off-white head with a clover honey color body. Smells of honey, pine and apricot. Tastes of pineapple, apricot, and honey. Nice bitter finish. All-around good IPA. 01/05/11 As a note, just drank one from the same brood and it was a malt bomb with a dog food finish...not very pleasing at all. Actually, just tried another quaff, and it wanted to come back on up on me the old musty malt being as in my face as it is. It’s going down the drain. Just wanted to let that be known, not going to change my original rating tho. This bottle was marked with 500 7FX.
3.6 Pours hazy orange with an off white head. Aroma is dominated by hops. Flavor is bitter with a decent malt backbone.
3.4 Dark brown colour with small white head.Aroma is citrus bitter with note of caramel and pine.Flavor is dry and bitter with note of greapfruits and hops with nice heavy finish.
3.3 12oz bottle. Poured an orange amber with a soapy off white head and minimal carbonation. Head leaves bits of lace. Smells of Citrus and pine with a whiff of caramel. Taste has a nice malt that leans toward a caramel sweetness. Hop level seems pretty light for this style. Lemon and grapefruit are the dominant hops flavors. Finishes with a mild bitterness
3.4 I scored one of these In Augusta last year when I went to the Masters. I just found my notes and the label in my Masters program. Amber pour. White head. Aroma is full of hops, mostly floral and some citrus. Flavor is hoppy, citrus, some malt and a taste of honey. Has a fairly bitter finish. not bad at all.
3.5 Dark golden colour and clear. Has a white head, mostly lasting. Clear hoppy aroma, amarillo. Flavor is heavy bitter, Dry texture. Soft carbonation
3.2 Bottle. Pours an amber body with a quickly diminishing light head. Light sweet caramel malt and then hops, honey sweet then grapefruit and some light citrus.
3.2 Bottle. Poured a clear amber with a tall tan head. Aroma of floral hops. Flavor of citrus, honey and malt. Slightly bitter finish. Well balanced. Pretty good beer.
3.5 (Bottle, BBE 02.10.08) Amber. Clear. Largish white, with brown stains, bubbly head. Grassy nose. Full bodied palate with lot of cabonation. Grass, malts, hint of dried plum and bit of salty liquorice in taste.
3.0 On tap at In de Wildeman, feb. 2008. Pale amber colour, white head. Aroma of hops and malts. Flavour is dry, bitter, a bit malty. Citrus flavours. Dry bitter finish.
3.2 Pours clear amber-bronze with a big creamy, tan foamy head. Flowerish and hoppy nose. Flavour of hops ,sweet honey, grapefruit and citrus. Medium bodied. Pleasant bitter finish. Nice brew.
3.8 Sweet, hoppy and very clean, this is an everyday ipa for me. Memorable because of a little mishap in the alcohol volume here, this was sold in the normal shops and they aren’t supposed to sell over 4,7% stuff. No wonder this was more delicious than the run of the mill ordinary shop IPAs.
3.3 12oz bottle. Poursclear gold/dark yellow with a white frothy head....citrus/grapefruit hops aroma, some floral...fresh tasting with an ok hop finish.
2.5 I had the old version a while ago. I remember it to be rather unremarkable, I remember thinking: are they sure this is an IPA? Overall, I’d say I thought it was average.
3.4 Bottle. I am a little confused. Is this the new or old version. it is 4.7 ABV and 36 IBU so none of the desciption on ratebeer matches. BB 03.08. Creamy white excellent mostly lasting head. Orange-yellow colour. Light malty and heavy hoppy aroma. Flowers and herbs present. Harsh bitter flavor. Long harsh bitter finish. Creamy palate. Not my style but nice.

3.3 Bottle. Pours amber with medium white head. Good hoppy aroma with fresh fruits and grass dominating. Flavour is hoppy too but it lacks the freshness. Dry bitter end.
3.0 Flaske.
3.1 Bottle. Not quite as tasty as I hoped. Amber with hops and citrus. Getting to used to the higher gravity IPA’s so this lacked some zing. It was good, but not overly impressive.
3.2 Bottle. Pours a clear amber color with a thick white head. Has a fruity hoppy aroma, taste is pleasantly flowery and goes down easy. Pretty good.
