Flying Fish Exit 4 American Trippel

Flying Fish Exit 4 American Trippel

You are holding the inaugural release in a multi-year brewing experiment-to brew a series of beers as diverse as the great state of New Jersey.
Our theme is the state-long artery that connects us. Each beer will focus on the unique aspect of an individual exit, whether an ingredient or event. The journey begins at Exit 4- right up the street from the Flying Fish brewery.
As one of the first craft brewers to embrace Belgian-style beers, we’ve chosen to start with a Belgian trippel, finished with plenty of American hops.
Note the hazy golden hue and the aroma of citrus with hints of banana and clove. Then taste the Belgian malt flavors and a subdued bitterness in the finish. Bottle conditioned, this beer will develop as it ages. Enjoy.

3.3 12 oz. bottle with a best by date of 6/20/2017. Clear in color gold within lasting head in a chalice. Aroma is sugar, honey, and weak yeast. Flavor shows a sweetness from sugar and yeast. Carbonation gives a mild effervescent feel over the pilot. Flavor and aroma run hand in hand. Doesn’t have the huge yeast character that a Belgian would have. It is ok.
3.4 A beer that tastes of clove and banana, your usual Belgian yeast flavors, a bit of spiciness. Could use a hint more carbonation if you ask me. Overall, a decent tripel. Not great, but certainly worth drinking again for the price. Best New Jersey beer I’ve had.
3.7 Pours a clear gold. Has a citrus, what and yeast aroma. A strong citrus, wheat, yeast, and sweet candy taste. A sweet and yeast aftertaste.
4.2 DATE TASTED: March 24, 2016... GLASSWARE: Affligem chalice.. OCCASION: ... APPEARANCE: pours a crackling golden orange with sparse effervescence... mostly clear... the head rings out to an almost cloudless... zero lacing in the glass... AROMA: a beautifully aromatic, spring flower dominates with grapefruit and orange... the banana, clove and spice suggests raw yeastiness... TASTE: a sweet, hoppy strength ripples through the profile, with astringent yeastiness, banana and clove... a sharp Saaz suggests a pilsner, while the the malt is a bit of cracker and bread... a balanced tripel, which is not the usual... OVERALL: a powerfully alcoholic, clean, crisp ale that rewards in its richness and displays the capabilities of Flying Fish... balance is the key to this abbey, with notes of honey and orange peel late...
3.5 Decent tripel with some clove and light bubble gum and banana on the nose. Big head. Spritzy feel. I like the light citrus notes in the flavor from the more than normal for the style hopping.
2.4 4oz draft. Lite yellow with bare white head. Yeast and grains, with banana and clove notes. Messy and offputting flavor for me. Not a fan.
3.7 Pours orange yellow with a creamy white head. Aroma of banana, Belgian yeast, clove, and bubblegum. Banana and bubblegum sweetness with clove and Belgian yeast. Very nice.
4.1 Bottle to shaker glass, pours hazy golden-orange. Quick white head with some lacing and light retention. Aroma of orange peel and banana. Taste is slightly sweet up front, sour in the middle with some bitterness. Medium bodied, lively carbonation, thick mouth feel. Finishes long and funky bitter. Tasting notes of clove, banana, Belgian yeast, grass, smoke, lemon and bubblegum. The label says American Trippel. Yep, no problem with that! A winner!
4.7 Excellent trippel with a nice infusion of hops that makes it unique. Nice aroma and mouth feel. Goes down easily so use care.
4.3 Aroma: floral, bread, citrus, Belgian yeast Appearance: clear golden with a white head Taste: medium sweetness, medium bitterness, lightly sour, Palate: medium body, creamy, soft carbonation, long finish, Delicious
3.1 Very hoppy with a slight Belgium yeasty feel and taste. Completely clear, with hardly any haze. I can taste a touch of the banana but not the clove mentioned. It’s a spice but more hops than anything. Aroma is a lot of funk. Bottle.
3.5 Smells like a dog but tastes pretty good. So go figure that out. ---Rated via BeerBuddy for iPhone.
3.7 Cerveja com bom balanço entre sabores maltados e lúpulo, mas um pouco doce e com álcool acentuado.
3.6 Bottle. Dark bright gold with a white ring head. Aroma is clove and banana yeast. The taste is sweet with big floral hops. Soft carb with a very rich mouthfeel. Pretty good
5.0 This beer is refreshing, not overbearing. Not a heavyweight beer. Nice accompaniment to tapas or artisanal pizza.
3.5 an american trippel has kinda an odd aroma. sweet bologna, clove. taste is strong clove, some smoked elements.
3.8 From a 12 ounce bottle. Absolutely beautiful pour. Light gold translucent with a tinge of white head. Heavy nose with above-mentioned ingredients. Citrus sweet, hides the alcohol well, but you feel the warmth. Not a tripel in a literal sense, but a delicious beer.
3.5 Bottle use by 12-01-15. Pour has a dark golden color with a thin layer of white head. Aroma has sweet malts, banana, flowery hops, and light spice. Mouth feel is medium with low side carbonation. Flavor is richly malted, sweet, hop bitterness, boozy, and some mild spice.
3.8 Excellent representation of the Belgian style. Soft carbonation, esters, little hoppier than typical tripel, sweet, but definitely not cloying, some over-ripe banana tones. A bit of a zing in the mouth feel at the finish. Good stuff.
3.3 I thought I would hate it, based on the smell. However, it was sweet, not too barky, refreshing, and super-powerful. Julie got it on draft, and we liked it so much I may get a case.
3.5 12 Fl. Oz. Bottle. Poured golden, clear with a nice white foamy head. Aroma of fruit (mostly banana), floral notes, some malts and some yeast. Taste is also fruity and sweet, a bit boozy, you can also taste some spicy notes and some yeast. Certainly very Belgian like, well executed and quite enjoyable.
3.5 Bottle. Clear light orange pour with a smaller soapy white head. Yeast and candi sugar sweetness. Mild citrus, some floral notes. A touch dry on the finish. Nice.
4.0 Pours light orange with a one finger white head with nice lacing. Aroma is of citrus, dank hops, tropical fruits, candied belgian yeast, ripe sour fruits, and some musty grapes. Taste is pretty similar to the aroma with the addtion of some very light booze. Has a medium-full body with a creamy mouthfeel and a semi bitter, semi dry, slightly warming, medium-long finish. Overall, a tasty trippel that is pretty hoppy for the style.
3.8 12oz bottle - Aroma - perfumey hop character, spicy, light alcohol present with a slight tropical fruit angle Appearance - pale golden color, hazy, small dissipating white head, little to no retention. Mouthfeel - medium bodied, light carbonation...almost wish for a spritzier beverage Flavor - pine needles and caramel up front. Old juicy oranges, spices, some staw notes too. Surprisingly sweet thought the alcohol helps zap the malts somewhat. Tasty. Overall - Complex and tasty, a nice example of an above average tripel. Very flavorful and a single bottle won’t break the bank.
3.7 Very well done, with well balanced coriander and florals. This is much better than some of their stuff I had a couple years ago - good to see them coming along. Golden hazy pour, thickish consistency. Light sweet finish. Very drinkable. Bottle from Chevy Chase.
3.7 Draft at White Oak Tavern, served in a goblet. Hazy yellow gold with fading white head and lacing. Nice combo of city's and floral hops with malt sweetness and spicy Belgian yeast. Well done.
3.8 12oz bottle. It pours a golden hazy yellow with great lacing and a soapy white head. Smells pretty good - definitely some spicy notes. The taste is very good, and the palate is very smooth, pretty much what I expect from belgian-style trippels. Very good American Trippel.
3.6 (Bottle) Clear orange body, small disappearing head. Aroma of bread, tangerine, cherry, lightly spiced. Full bodied, oily texture, light/soft carbonation. Moderately sweet, honey, orange, yeast, mild hop.
3.5 12oz bottle from Crossroads. A NJ brew if passed on 100 times. Finally giving it a shot. Pours a clear golden color with two fingers of foamy white head. Aroma of apples, Belgian yeast, clove, and sweet candied sugar. Taste of candied sugar, citrus zest, bready malts, Belgian yeast, and hints of apple.
3.1 hoppy aroma. golden and clear with a fast fading head. slight malt taste up front then strong hoppy finish. hoppy/sweet aftertaste.
