Flying Fish OktoberFish

Flying Fish OktoberFish

First released in 2002, and sold out in two weeks. A tribute to the classic Fest styles of Germany the O’Fish uses European malts hops and yeast. A beautiful reddish color, a savory malt profile and nice hop flavor, make this Fest beer quite drinkable. OktoberFish is great with food and especially great with Lederhosen.

3.6 BBD 1/21/16. Slightly hazy amber pour. Outstanding head volume, lacing and retention. Light nose of toasted biscuit with a caramel undertone. Rather bready. Heavy light body with a smooth texture. Normal carbonation with a bit of effervescence in the middle and a weak burst in the finish. The flavor profile is rather good and a bit atypical for the style. Intensity and balance are well done, but complexity is outstanding. Toasted malts yield a bready background similar to pumpernickel. The middle delivers a subtle floral bitterness and a plum/raisin undertone. As the finish approaches, the dark fruit aspect really shines as caramel cascades into the finish. The finish is clean with a subtle crispness.
3.4 Bottle. Pours a reddish amber color with small beige colored head. Aroma of cereal grains and caramel malt. Sweet malt flavor with some barley notes. Straightforward but good.
3.2 Nice take on the Oktoberfest style. Crisp, just right amount of sweetness and hop bitterness. Very good lager.
3.6 amber color; hoppy aroma; a well balanced beer; biscuity, caramel malt and noble hops with a bit of an underlying fruitiness and some spice notes; dry, bitter finish
3.1 has a bit of a grain malt aroma. Taste is some sort of malts with a mild pine hop. pretty average.
3.4 Pours copper-amber with a one finger off white head which quickly fades to very little lacing. Aroma is of toasted bready malts, caramel, sweet malts, toffee, grass and earthy hops, and some citrus zest. Taste is pretty malty with a light hop profile of some earthy citrus and spiciness in the background. Has a medium body with a semi creamy mouthfeel and a mostly sweet, medium finish. Overall, a decently tasty beer that is pretty solid for the style.
3.3 State ticking. 12 to go. NJ via AZ from my mum to WI. Lots of nutty and biscuity malt flavor. Nice German style. Not over the top American caramel malt bomb.
3.1 Dark hazy orange, medium to thin white head, soapy lacing. Mild toast, cracker, some toffee, florals, and a splash of citrus zest. Medium bodied with moderate to soft carbonation, muted finish with mild bitterness.
2.6 A mild rust aroma with a tinge of barley. Pours brown with mediocre head and lacing. Touch of mash malt in finish. Bottle, probably a little past prime.
3.3 From tap. Pours cloudy orange with a small white head. Aroma is toasted malty, light fruity. Mild toasted malty, mild hops fruity. Vague caramelish. Bitter, toasted and light breadish.
3.3 12 oz bottle from Total Wine & More - Gilbert, AZ. Orange-amber and clear appearance with a white head. Earthy, lightly malty and light bitter with Munich malts providing a touch of caramel and toffee. Light to medium body with a crisp, carbonated feel. Pretty solid rendition here.
3.4 Dark amber pour under a nice tan head, nicely sweet, mild bitter, even the wife likes it.
2.4 Pours a thin head on a clear straw body. The aroma is a confusing mixture of candy and malt. The taste is candy sweet, mild grain and touch of bitter. Quite sweet overall. The texture is sticky. It’s really sweet without balance.
3.6 Draft rate from the hotel bar during a random business trip to NJ. Poured a medium clear amber, decent head. Aroma was lightly of toffee accented malts. Flavor matched, hint of floral hops on a balancing bittering finish. Not bad at all. Hadn’t seen Flying Fish in ages, and it had been an early staple of the emerging craft scene down here. Can’t really say that I had missed them, had actually totally forgotten them until I saw the tap handle with the fish bones. Still a great logo.
3.8 Served on tap in a pint glass Appearance – The beer is served a copper red color with a billowy head of two fingers of just off white foam. The head fades rather quickly leaving a lighter level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass. Smell – The aroma is sweet with a good showing of caramel and some fruit of cherry and plum. Along with these aromas comes notes of a roasted malt and a little bit of a grainy and hay-like smell. Taste – The taste begins with a roast malt flavor and plenty of caramel and brown sugar flavors. There is a little bit of a fruity flavor of cherry and a little bit of apple. The fruit starts out light, but gets stronger as the taste advances on further. All the while, the roast increases a bit and is joined by some spice and a little bit of a nut. While the roast increases from the start initially, it fades again at the end and with more sweet caramel and some fruit coming to the tongue, one is left with a rather sweet and lightly toasty flavor to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel- The body of the brew is on the thinner side in terms of thickness and creaminess with a carbonation level that is on the higher side. The feel is very nice for the fruity, sweet, and light roasted and nutty flavors of the brew and make for an easy drinker. Overall – This is a rather enjoyable and easy drinking October fest with a rather sweet malty taste and a little bit of fruit and roast.
3.2 Poured at bar in pint glass a copper with a quick head and some lace. Aroma was cereal, malts. Taste was sweet malt with cereal and some caramels. Med body, smallest of hop bitterness at finish with a sweet malt aftertaste. Not mind blowing but solid fall beer.
3.0 Appearance- Clear copper with a wispy white head, not long lasting. Aroma- Sweet malts, straw, caramel, bread Flavor- Sweet malt with a nice bitter hop finish, some grass, caramel, dry.
3.0 rich malts, toasted, with just a touch of hops for balance. even though it’s the weakest of the 3 we just had, still average. "
3.0 Aroma, malty cellar like notes of must appreance, dark amber, foam head taste, nice smooth maltness, alittle watery though not as strong as I like palate easy drinking beer overall, ok, not my favorite Okerber fest beer, but I would try again.
2.3 Bottle - Dry hop flavor with a little to much sweetness from the malt for my likeing. They say this one sells out quickly but I don’t understand why. It has the off taste to it, maybe its the malt they use.
3.2 Aroma:Cereal-malt,grass... Appearance:Clear cooper, a lot of co2,good white head.. Flavor:malty,grass,light cokked vegetable...
3.0 Pours a clear amber amber with smallish head. Typical fest aroma of caramel and bready malts. A bit sweet with soapiness in the middle. A decent fest beer.
2.9 Pours copperish red. Are. Aromas sweet malts and citrus. Very light malty flavors, few hoppy notes, hints of caramel and cinnamon. An OK beer from Flying Fish, but not their best.
3.1 Bottle. Copper pour with a finger of head that dissipates quickly. Biscuit, malt. Slightly acidic initially. Nice carbonation with crisp body and finish. Slightly weak finish
2.9 Light amber pour. Aroma of biscuits. Medium body, a bit flat. Has a malty, bitter finish.
3.0 Pours light copper color, not much aroma, palate has a nice malty lager taste with subtle notes of the Vienna and Munich malts, finishes a little weak but overall a nice Marzen style.
3.5 Bottle. Pours light amber, thin head, lively carbonation. Nice malty profile and sweet. Light bitter finish. Surprising good.
3.7 Pouts an golden orange, with little to no head or lacing. Malty aroma no much to write home about. Nice tasting beer, malty sweet upfront followed by some hopiness, and finish nice and dry, nutty flavor.
3.3 Pours an orange-amber color with a high amount of visible carbonation and a very good head.. The aroma is rather fruity for style, with hints of peach and citrus in addition to the solid malt base. The hops are not so fruity in tasting but do result in a good, bitter-sweet balance. Medium-light body with well-chosen medium-high carbonation.
2.9 3 ounce sampler at the Grovetoberfest Miami beer festival 10/13/12. Very good.
