2.2 Tap pig iron. Maroon & clear. Mild beery aroma. Farely mild initially then it tries to become like an IPA, hop bitterness sets in. Yes, an APA trying to be an IPA but never quite gets there. Medicinal finish.
3.4 From tap. Pours clear and golden amber with a small off white head. Aroma is fruity and slight toasted malty. Bitter, grapefruity and slight herbal hoppy. Lingering dry and solid hoppy finish.
3.4 12oz bottle. Poured a clear amber color, medium sized white head. Aroma was light citrus, touch of resin. Light boozy malt notes. Flavor was light resin hop notes, crystal malts - a touch heavy. Perfectly fine.
3.4 Pours a two-fingered white head that fades slowly leaving a good lace. Crystal clear amber color - no red. Moderate pine hop nose. Medium carbonation and medium bodied and flavor is pine hops, hints of sweetness with malt mostly hidden, slight bitter aftertaste. Gift - 12oz bottle.
3.9 (12oz bottle) AROMA: coffee, nutty, fruity toffee, roasted corn, some spice, pepper. APPEARANCE: off white head, oily, reddish Amber, clear. TASTE: roasted malt, black coffee, green veggie/herb, warm, spicey. PALATE: round, warm, solid medium body, balanced. OVERALL: I like this beer. Good balance. Nice rich toasted malt flavors. Enough body and bitterness without going overboard.
3.4 Bottle. Total wine west Richmond. Pours Amber with almost no head. Aroma is lightly smoky, citrus, caramel. Flavor is caramel, pine, dark fruit, leaves.
3.4 This was poured into a nonic pint glass. The appearance was a dark red color with a one finger white foamy head that dissipated at a nice pace. Messy lace. The aroma starts with some nuts and malts. Then some citrus and piney hops contact the rest of the aromatics nicely. The flavor leans sweet through a blend of the previously mentioned aromas. Rugged malty aftertaste with the same sort of finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fair sessionability about it. Carbonated fine, it moves pretty well across my tongue. Overall, decent amber ale that I could come back to.
3.6 From a 12 oz. bottle. Pours a clear amber with an off white head. Aroma of nuts and citrus. Flavors include some wintergreen notes. Moderately bitter finish.
3.3 A decent ale overall. Good malt/hops balance and very drinkable. That said, I wouldn’t buy it (this one is free) unless it was the only decent beer they had.
3.8 Really solid red ale. Plenty of hops but with a thick malty backbone. It also seems a bit stronger than the 7%... it’s really drinkable...
3.2 Received in a cool trade with dberger624.. Thanks Dan!! Pours deep amber with a long lasting off white head.. Punchy pine hoppiness on the nose is backed up by a decent amount of toastiness.. Flavor mirrors the aroma.. Maltiness is dry but still little toasty... interesting, very drinkable.
2.8 malty and faint hop aroma. red/brown in color and clear with decent head. piney/ slight citrus hop bitterness, not overwhelming.
3.4 Bottle at Flora Cafe. Nice amber body with slight head. Nose is hops, pine. Bitter in the taste. Hops in the flavour. Nice finish.
3.2 A caramel malt flavor dominates at first, with piney hops at the end. Not great, but drinkable.
3.4 Good beer. Pours a reddish amber. Looks great in a pint glass. Thin head that doesnt last long. Defintely a bold beer. Strong bitter taste right off the bat with a nice bitter finish. Like i said. This is a good beer. Not great but good. Couldnt see myself drink more than one or two of these in a sitting.
3.4 Pours red with a moderate amount of hop flavor. Medium head and spiced like a traditional red.
2.6 Cloudy amber with thin white head that fizzles out quickly. Faint smell of sweet malt, light hops and bread. Can detect hops on the tongue, though not strong. Some sweet caramel. Light to medium body. Decent brew.
3.6 12 Oz bottle from AOPD for December 2015 The amber ale poured a cloudy amber color with small head that dissipated to some dried lacing. The aroma was very feint of pine resin. The taste has some subtle bitterness but very mild. The ale had a medium body with soft carbonation, The finish had some toffee with some bitterness in the upper mouth.
3.3 A reddish copper ale with a thin lacing mocha head. In aroma, sweet caramel malt with light grassy floral hops, grapefruit pulp, treacle, nice. In mouth, a nice caramel malt with roasted notes, light grassy hops, light grapefruit, nice. On tap at Jack Duggan, Terminal A, PHL.
2.3 Drank from a pint glass, poured from a twelve ounce bottle. Pours a nice red/amber color with a bit of white head. Has some odd aromas and odd flavors...
3.4 Pours a redish brown. Medium siize white head. Aroma is of bread baking and a touch of lemon and vanila. Taste is of bread citrus and a little nuty. Finish is a bit gratty.
3.6 Bottle from party. Hops present along with caramel and malt backing, dried fruits, spice, pine. An off-guard amber, excellent from the bottle or can.
3.2 Bottle to shaker glass, pours hazy amber/orange. One finger off white head with light lacing and some retention. Aroma of caramel and light pine. Taste is mainly sweet, some earthy hop bitterness but not quite enough to balance. Medium body, lively carbonation, chewy mouth feel. Finishes bittersweet. Tasting notes of caramel, spruce, grass, mango and nuts. Not bad but nothing to write home about.
2.9 On tap at the Bier Garden is Asbury Park, pours a hazy red with some fluffy, white head. Nose has malt, rising bread, some dried orange peel. Flavor follows, bread crust, orange, light herbs, soap, some toffee. Finishes a bit grating.
2.9 Pencil shavings aroma. Clear copper, medium head. Lightly sweet dried leaves. Medium body, easy carbonation.
2.6 Bottle @ RVA 22nd. Caramel with decent head an lacing. Smells wheaty and metallic. Sweeter than I like.
3.9 BBD 7/11/15. Pours a clear amber with a solid garnet cast. Outstanding head volume, world class lacing and retention. Somewhat light nose of toasted malt and hops (pine and grapefruit). Heavy light body with a smooth texture. Superb carbonation with a nice effervescent burst in the middle and a solid finely bubbled prickly finished. Outstanding flavor profile. It is intense, fairly complex, and very well balanced. It’s base is a solid biscuit with heavy caramel notes that are somewhat toasted. Over this is a mild bitterness which has hop flavor elements of pine, grapefruit and an herbal spicy character. The finish is a slow fade of hop flavor that becomes more spicy as it lingers.
4.1 Aroma: Caramel, mild bread, and little citrus hops. Appearance: Dark Amber. Very small head, no lacing Taste: Light pine, orange, caramel. Sweet upfront and finishes with a nice lingering bitterness. Palate: Medium body, noticeable bitterness, lightly carbonated. O: I hate Amber ales, especially the hoppy ones. I always dislike whatever ambers I try. This one was an extra from a trade. This is surprisingly balanced and flavorful. caramel, bread, bread, bread, bread, bread, bread,
3.2 Poured from 12 oz. bottle at Quarry House Tavern in Silver Spring, MD. Clear, rusty orange with a f off-white head and good lacing. Aroma of caramel, toast and citrus. Taste of caramel, toast, mild pine and even milder grapefruity citrus. Medium/full body and medium/low carbonization.
3.5 Beer of month club. Pours a reddish brown with 1 finger head that leaves white film and good lacing when it recedes. Nose is slightly citrus and malt - but now particularly strong. Taste is caramel with hops on finish - smooth. Pretty good.
