Flying Monkeys Netherworld Cascadian Dark Ale

Flying Monkeys Netherworld Cascadian Dark Ale

Cascadian Dark Ale
Heeding a chorus of voices crying for a dark roasty thing with lots of west coast hops and a higher ABV, we summoned Netherworld from the chaotic flipside of the brewhouse where hybrid is the norm and nothing is ordinary.
Hovering just this side of evil, in the right hands, our «Cascadian Dark Ale» is bizarrely nice with its own entrancing mojo. However, watch out for those who refuse to see the darkness.

3.6 Bottle. Dark brown nearly black body with tan head. Aroma is mlts fruits some hints of coffee and dried fruits. Taste is roasted malts coffee some dark caramel hints of fruits and biscuits. Aftertaste is nice bitter slightly balanced by some malty caramel sweetness.
4.1 Bottle 33cl. Pours dark with a medium light brown head. Aroma is roasted malt, strawberry and pine. Medium body and medium carbonation with thin fizzy bubble. Taste is bitter, roasted malt, strawberry and coffee.
3.5 Bottle from notes. Pours a clear dark brown color with a small beige head. The aroma and flavor have roasted malts, chocolate, earthy bitterness, a splash of resin, some light fruit, thinner, decent.
3.2 355 ml. bottle @ Home. Aroma: quite intense aroma of black chocolate, roasted malts, toasted malts, spices, pine, cocoa. Some yeast, alcohol and earthy overtones. Appearance: brown color, with beige to light brown head. It seems it has low hazyness. High head thickness with high retention. Very creamy foam. Medium to high lacing. Taste: low sweetness, low to medium bitterness, low sourness. Flavors of spices, dark chocolate, roasted malts, toasted malts, cocoa. Hints of roasted coffee. Maybe pine too, but it's not easy to spot it because of the roasted flavors. Balance is on the bitter side. Mouthfeel is a little spicy, even tangy at first, but that feeling disappears after a few seconds. Palate: medium body, oily to silky texture, medium carbonation, very long finish with low to medium bitterness and a lot of flavors of roasted malts, dark chocolate, toasted malts, cocoa. Alcohol is only noticeable through a little sweetness. No astringency from the roasted malts is noticeable. Overall: appearance, aromas and flavors are not bad at all, but i don't like the spicy/tangy mouthfeel you get the first few seconds. The roasted flavors are too prominent, leaving no much room for the hops to express themselves, but not bad. Overall, a good beer.
4.0 Buena. lupulo y maltas tostadas en abundancia. Cafe. Final amargo y larguito.
3.6 bottle - Pours near black with a hoppy, roasty, coffee aroma. It has a similar flavor with moderate to strong hops bitterness, roast malt, a little chocolate, and some resin. Medium bodied. Good beer.
3.5 Barna szín, közebes bézs hab. Pörkölt malátás, karamelles, némi csokoládéval fűszerezett ízvilág. Nem rossz, de van jobb is.
3.6 Bottle, 355 ml at Svijet Piva. Shared with JFK10000 and others. Pours black with medium beige head. Chocolate, moderate roastiness, some hops, pine, bitter finish. Has some smoothness in texture. Medium bodied. OK, probably not the freshest.

2.7 Cerveza sencilla, muy compensada y ligera. Está bien pero es muy normal, no se nota el lúpulo.
3.1 Bottle @ Hopaholic. Black coloured with thin, long lasting beige head. Coffee and cocoa dominate its aroma and taste, with some additional, slighter hoppy notes. Medium lasting finish, light body, soft carbonation. More like a stout than a black IPA imo.
3.6 33cl bottle purchased @ Mondial de la bière Paris. Robe noire avec mousse brune. Black IPA bien équilibrée qui est peu amère. Attaque sur le réglisse très agréable.
2.7 355ml bottle (Alus Celle, Riga) (6:4:5:2:10=2.7) Deeply roasted malts, some spicy hops too, but kinda messy. Very dark, brief head settles to a ring. Messy herbal rye and nettle porridge taste. Harsh palate. Harsh finish. Acrid. Very messy beer, fails to be either stout or IPA, and isn’t anywhere in between the two. Irrelevant you say, but this is also nowhere near the black IPAs that I like that are in the neither/nor zone. What is it? Don’t care, just know my temptation to buy it again is zero.
3.3 Bottle (thanks fatphil). Pours dark ruby-black. Aroma is roast, hops, malt, citrus. Flavor is sweet and bitter, roast, citrus, bit acidic. Body is on the thinner side. Overall: ok.

3.8 Bottle from de Caigny in Essen, Belgium. The beer is very dark brown to black colored and has a creamy-cappuccino foam, with nice carbonation. The aroma is roasted malts, caramel, dried fruits, cacao, coffee and some fresh hops (citrus, pine and grass) in the background. The taste is medium to full bodied with roasted malts, dried fruits and in the background a nice hoppiness with pines, fruits and dark chocolate. The finish is dry, bitter and has notes of coffee and chocolate.
3.7 Draught. Pours an opaque black with a fading light beige foamy head. Aroma is of dark chocolate, pine, dark fruits, figs, caramel. Taste is of chocolate, nuts, caramel, grassy, pine, light citrus, dark fruits. Light oily mouthfeel, soft to medium carbonation.
3.2 On tap at Les Dix Fûts, Orléans-- Pours deep black with thin brown head. Nose is slightly hoppy. Aromas are roasted malts, herbal hops. Low carbonation, light/medium body. Medium roasted finish, with alcohol warmth.
3.6 Tap at Craft Room. Daaark clear brown, nearly black, lasting creamy beige head. Aroma... Peach, raisins, malt, yup, a bit older it would appear. Nice, subtle taste, piney amd lemon-lime hoppiness and tea mixing with a chocolatey malty background, dry and lean. Not too much bitterness, pretty well integrated really, does pile up pleasantly in the aftertaste though. Unsurprisingly for hoppy beers that make it here over the pond, not really fresh, but it doesn?t detract here that much. A very good beer that grows on you, likely excellent fresh.
3.6 Bottle from Saveur Biere. Almost black with a light brown head. Aroma is sweet, malty, roasted malt and moderate hoppy - fruity. Flavor is quite sweet and rather bitter. Dry and rather bitter finish. Lacks a little body. 040717
