Flying Monkeys Smashbomb Atomic IPA

Flying Monkeys Smashbomb Atomic IPA

"Holy Hop, Batman, this beer has aroma." Hops are casted nine different times, it’s a breath-deep-and-shudder-with-pleasure kind of scent that’s all from the Citra hops. With a high alpha acid of 11%, Citra has a cacauphony of flavours and aromas --Citrus, passion fruit, grapefruit, lime, melon, lychee fruit, pineapple, mango, and papaya – and dominates this beer.

Smashbombs olfactory tropical explosion shockwaves your face every time you lift the meringue foam towards you. It’s like the ecru-coloured top of a beer pie before it gives up and grips the glass. You can see the Victory malt’s signature in the amber lights in what is primarily a deep golden beer. And, yes, don’t be fooled --there’s malt going on here, too, as you’ll see in the firey body of this ale that makes Smashbomb Atomic look like it radiates its own energy.

With the first taste, Smashbomb’s 70 IBUs are pronounced. This brew is a little bitter, but bitter like a grapefruit with three tablespoons of sugar on top. It’s also incredibly drinkable. The oddity that’ll keep you tipping the glass is that as this citrus peel front subsides, you actually gleen the sweet flavours of the Victory and Crystal malts. Then, as the bread-puddin’ bicuity sweetness of the malts are chased by the dry, tropical flavour of Citra and the fruit punch bouquet is all in your face with each sip, it’s all is so damn intriguing, you’ll be driven to keep on sampling...and sampling.

3.8 Pours deep gold into a tulip. White soapy head with good retention recedes leaving spider lacing. Pine aromas. Soft with caramel and pine turning crisp in the lasting pith finish.
3.3 Aroma is citrus, honey, and clove. Taste is subtle. A mild creaminess, honey and very subtle earthiness. Surprisingly, not that hoppy .

3.3 One of the coolest looking cans I have seen! Pours a deep gold color with a slight haze. One finger foam head with amazing retention. Nose is subtle but has some pine and floral notes. Taste is some caramel and citrus. Slight hops on the finish. Overall, medium body, fairly easy to drink. Good.
3.5 Bottle at the Rehab Station, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Poured a hazy medium amber with a lasting frothy white head. The aroma is toffee caramel malt, light fruit, light resin hop. The flavour is moderate sweet with a smooth, rich, toffee malt, fruity, light metallic, light dry floral hop bitter palate and a lingering bitter finish. Medium bodied with average to soft carbonation.
4.1 Color naranja, translúcida. Espuma blanca escasa con buena retención. Aroma escaso, a resina y maltas. Sabor más maltoso de lo esperado aunque enseguida aparece el amargor agradable que iba buscando. Textura oleosa y chispeante.
3.3 Canned 473ml. -at Svijet Piva Zagreb. Golden coloured, small to medium sized white head, light citrusy nose. Moderate malty, biscuity, light caramel, slightly citrusy and herbal with dry bitterish finish. Pretty boring.
3.9 Can from Beershop.gr, enjoyed at Gunnarsbu . Pours hazy amøber with a big creamy off-white head. Good marmalade malty aroma ,loaded with fresh and crisp citrus. Taste is light sweet, with a very powerful crisp hoppy citrus finish. Lovely
3.7 473ml can. Pours clear amber with a big light beige head. Aroma of floral, citrus hops, biscuity malts. Taste is malty, biscuit, citrusy grapefruit hops give it a good bitterness. Medium bodied, soft carbonation.
Trop vieille ? C'est assez creux, mais passable.
3.9 16 ounce can. Amber orange pour. Small creamy beige head. Malty nose hints at caramel and blood orange. Big toasted malt flavor is balanced by bold citrus notes and bitter hops. Notes of orange peel, grapefruit and white toast. Lots of flavor and lots of hops mean one thing. It's Smashbomb Atomic baby!
3.2 12 oz. bottle. Pours a slightly hazy dark gold/amber color with a thick (2-finger) cap of off white foam. Aroma is mostly caramel to me with some resin hops in the background. Medium body. Flavor is well balanced between the malt and pine/resin hops. Finish is more of the same. Average.
3.8 Aroma: resin and grapefruits. Appearance: hazy goldish color and creamy head. Taste: medium pine bitterness, grapefruit peel, resin, thin malty backbone, rather dry. Palate: medium body and medium carbonation. Overall: very nice IPA, clear profile.
3.4 Can (473 ml). Pours orange-honey color with off-white head and lacing. Nose of caramel, toffee, and some grapefruit notes. Caramel and bread crust malt with grapefruit notes and some bitterness in the finish. Sweetness transitions into moderate dryness. Medium body.
3.6 Draught at Hopaholic, Budapest. Clear bronze with beige head. Sweetish aroma with notes of citrus, pine, caramel and dried fruits. The flavor is sweet and mild bitter with notes of citrus, pine, caramel, apricot and some tropical fruits. Medium-bodied.
3.8 Jest lekki karmel. Są delikatne cytrusy. Spora goryczka. Zdecydowanie wytrawne. Mało ciała.
3.0 On tap @Birrifugio Trastevere (Rome). Dorata appena torbida, schiuma bianca media. Al naso note erbacee, medicinale, radice. In bocca è maltata all'attacco con finale amaro radicioso. Corpo medio, carbonazione media. No.

Medium carbonation, fine dry and quite creamy mouthfeel. Flavour has solid hops, nice resin, grapefruit, peach. Quite solid bitterness. Yummy balance.

3.6 On tap at at sprinkle road tap house in kzoo w Capron. Good hop n citra like it
3.4 Draught at Reds in Toronto. Copper colour with virtually no carbonation and hardly any head. Sweetish malt flavour and some hoppy bitterness. A little to sweet and cloying for my taste. Stick to the the Juicy Ass IPA, which is excellent.
3.8 473ml can served in a pint glass. Pours a slightly hazy copper amber color forming a medium creamy beige head with medium retention that forms and leaves some soapy lingering lacings in the glass. Nose is sweet and flowery. Strong notes of caramel and pine. Notes of orange zest, resin and grassy hops. Slightly sweet upfront taste. Again, strong caramel malts backbone followed by notes of pine, resin, grass, orange zest and grapefruit. Good medium bitterness. Not very persistent. Medium body, medium to low carbonation. Caramel and pine in the afteraste. Good drinkability. Nice American style IPA.
3.5 This is a love attack, I know, went out but it's back It's just like any fad, it retracts before impact And just like fashion, it's a passion for the with it and hip If you got the goods, they'll come and buy it just to stay in the clique
3.9 Nice aroma, and taste, although I do find it lacks a bit of hoppiness to make it to the next level. A good beer, nevertheless.
3.7 Can. Poured clear dark copper color with an average off-white frothy head that lasted with very good lacing. Solid complex citrus aroma. Medium to full body with a slick texture and soft carbonation. Medium to heavy bittersweet flavor with a medium to heavy bittersweet finish of moderate to long duration. This is a solid beer.
3.7 Draft at FOB, Rimini, Italy. Pours dark gold with fine white foam. Aroma is nicely aromatic. Body is average with moderate carbonation. Taste is moderately bitter. Finish is fairly long and bitter.
3.9 Aroma of floral hops and citrus. Amber colored with a rocky, ivory colored head. Sweet taste of caramel and citrus, not so bitter as one can expect. Light body with soft carbonation
3.8 I've actually had this one before, so this is my second time drinking it. Pours a dark and transparent golden body, with a large dark white head. Looks almost like a lager. Aromas are very much of an IPA though. Very grassy hops with grapefruit, zest and citruicy fruits. A little bit of roasty malts too. Tastes of mainly grapefruit and zest, with a slightly bitter finish. Body has a little sweetness in it, which is definitely a nice change of pace from most other IPA's I drink. The way the hoppy finish contrasts with the malty sweetness is really unique and makes this beer worth drinking. A great IPA if you want to get into the style and want something rather approachable. Despite having 72 IBU (according to the can, Ratebeer says 70) this isn't really all that bitter and is very drinkable.
3.8 Incredibly smooth IPA as only the cross-atlantians can make them, this taste brings Alesmith to mind and other glorious IPA menders, it is surely lovely and light. But it doesn't stand out in pure character or layering. Pretty lovely and sunny IPA without extra dept. But still compliments though.
