Föroya Bjór Black Sheep

Föroya Bjór Black Sheep

Föroya Bjór Black Sheep premium dark lager is an excellent beer with a great taste, brewed by Föroya Bjór, a Faroese family owned brewery founded in 1888. The Black Sheep from Föroya Bjór is a beer of th very best quality. The islanders may have a fishy economy but the Faroese beer is second to none. The brewery has always had a ram in its logo.

2.2 Mein erstes dunklesLager.
3.1 Dark lager from the second brewery that was ever established on the Faroe Islands (and now the oldest, since the first one, Restorffs, went out of business in 2007). Bottle of about half a year past its expiration date, but nevertheless many thanks to tderoeck for this country tick, one I've been looking for since quite some time now... Thick, frothy, egg-white, very mousy, membrane-lacing head, retaining well over a clear, deep bronze-hued ruddy amber-coloured beer. Clearly 'aged' aroma of old cotton cloth, wet cardboard, dry tea bags, autumn leaves, hard caramel but without much of its sweetness, walnut shells, a bag of old rubber bands, dry cookies. Sweetish, but clean onset, very light sourish touch due to lively carbonation that will last throughout the entire beer; rounded, tad resinous body, peanutty and dry cookie-like maltiness with more caramelly sweetness to it than expected based on the nose, alas a bit metallic too; obvious cardboard-like oxidation retronasally, but less strongly so than orthonasally. Tea-ish herbal hop bitter accent in the finish, pairing with a slight toasty-bitter tail of the malts, so in all, maintaining a good balance between sweet and bitter - and in fact ending more bitter than is usually the case in a Wiener, because that is essentially what this is, a member of the rather elusive amber-coloured lager style introduced by Anton Dreher in Vienna in the 1840s, though the stronger and 'fuller' German style Dunkelbock is not too far away either. The cardboard effect from aging is unavoidable here, but in spite of that, I can still taste that this beer was altogether quite well made within this style, so I'll happily drink a fresh one whenever I come across it again.
3.0 Bottle at a tasting. Slightly astringent, probably from dark malts. But also light coffee flavour, generally malty, drinkable. Slightly empty and a bit metallic. Drinkable, average.
2.9 Bottle kindly shared by Wendigo, many thanks. Light brown with small white head. Aroma of light coffee, caramel. Taste, chocolate, coffee, light sourness.
2.8 Bottle. Malty aroma and taste, light roasty notes, caramel, medium bitter. Light to medium body, malty bitter finish. Average.
2.9 Shared bottle C: chestnut light brown N: caramel, malt P: light caramel, roasted malt, light on the palate, fairly crisp. Refreshing.
3.0 Bottle at Slovak tasting 03/2020. Pours deep amber color, white head. Aroma of caramel, cocoa, malt. Taste is medium sweet, caramel, roasted malt, chocolate.
2.4 Mangler smag
3.9 Black with a medium head that quickly dissipated.Somes times when you try a beer from a country that doesn't usually brew beer the result is often a bland corporate beer. In this case that is not true. A malty medium body with a pleasant nutty flavour.A pleasure to drink. New brewery and country 102 for me.
2.9 Color marrón, con una ligera neblina. Dos dedos de espuma con retención media. Aroma a malta tostada y caramelo.
2.8 Aroma is grassy and a bit of sweet malt character. The taste is very much like most lagers, lots of malts and grassy funk. A little bit more bitter then most lagers of this kind that I have tried. Actually quite a nice bitter hoppiness. Overall a nice Amber Lager.
2.9 Tap at ship from Denmark to Faroes. Clear dark amber (brown) colour, small white head. Aroma is quite weak, caramelly, some toffee. Taste is caramelly, some burnt rubber, malty, bit herbal, dry cocoa. Light body, crisp carbonation. Light body, but flavours are decent, overally drinkable
2.7 33cl bottle pours a dark amber with some white head. Nose has cherry, date, malt, pumpernickel. Flavor is fine, malt, bread, caramel, butterscotch. Sweet finish.
2.8 Clear cola body with a tall, foamy, persistent ivory head. Aroma is sweet pop corn and violets. Taste is malty, sugar sweet, slightly oxidated. Faint malty and metallic finish. Low/medium body, soft carbonation, quite watery texture.
2.7 Probably the best one I've had so far from this duty free six-pack from the Iceland airport. Pours blackish with decent head and lacing. Roast and some caramel. Bittersweet end. Bottle.
1.5 From a 33 cl bottle. Pours a clear pale mahogany with a tan head. Aromas are herbal and caramel. Flavors are sweet caramel.
2.3 Dirty and woody notes. Cloudy brown with a decent beige head. Touch sweet and woody and earthy. Not good.
3.0 330ml bottle. Clear dark amber with tall cream head. Aroma is malty with caramel, a light roastiness and some fresh citrus. Taste is equally malty with a greater roastiness, caramel sweetness and a lighter citrus freshness. Medium mouthfeel, light carbonation and gentle malty aftertaste.
2.7 From the bottle. Brown with a fleeting head. Nutty aroma, caramel, a touch sulfuric. Taste mildly sweet with a fleeting sourness. Body trends light with watery notes. Drinkable.
2.9 Przecietne piwo karmelowe, slodowe, chmielnosc i goryczka niewielka, piana srednia, opada szybko. Klarowne
3.9 Not exactly black, as the name might indicate. It‘s clear brown with a beige head and a lot of bubbles. Malty aroma. Taste is quite savory, malt, faint smoke, gentle bitterness. Do like the high carbonation. Good.
2.0 Copenhagen 29/10 2018. 33 cl bottle from Den Gamle Købmand. On the label I find a Angry-looking grey(!) Sheep surrounded by lightning for some obscure reason. They Seem pretty preoccupied by the fact that they have only used “the Best Faroese Water”. Pours dark amber with small white head. Pretty light for a beer called “Black Sheep”. Settles as thin remnants of foam drifting around. Aroma is sweetish and a little metallic. Caramel, brown sugar with a hard metallic edge. Light notes of roast. Medium carbonation. Thin, watery and oddly flat texture. Flavor is medium sweet followed by and partly balanced my slightly more moderate bitterness. Aftertaste is thin and sweetish. Lingers only shortly. A quite thin Amber lager. It might be made using “the Best Faroese Water”. Now they only need some decent malts and hops.
2.0 On bottle. Pours almost clean brown, with creamy white head. Scent: Sweet and malty. Taste: Sweet, water, malts. Texture: Water, medium co2.
Lett. Søt maltig smak. Kort.
2.9 Aroma; roasted malt, fermented fruit, caramel, apple. Look; pale beige head on amber brown clear body. Taste; syrup, caramel, raisin, fermented fruit. Finish; roasted malts n apple background. Feel; good body, normal co2. Overall; raisinic. [btl@Melfar2018]
