Our original high gravity beer.A dense blend of base malts sets a solid foundation for massive additions of Cascade hops and a Chinook dry-hopping. The result is an intense flavor profile that's citrusy with heavy notes of pine, and immensely delicious.

3.8Bottle share from bob. Thanks bob! Very well made. Nice balance appearance and feel. Caramel and citrus dominated.
4.0Very good high gravity IPA. I’ve enjoyed several Foothills brews and really like the dlouble IPAs so I’ll compare this to Dogfish Head 90 (a most excellent brew). The aroma is a bit heavy on hops, but very pleasant. The appearance is more gold than amber with just a bit of bubbly. The pour was good with just enough head but not too foamy. The taste is remarkably smoothe for an IPA, yet still hoppy and full of flavor. The pint+6 is also a great size vs. 2 twelves. I’ll probably stick with the Dogfish Head 90, but this is just behind.
3.7On tap - deep orange with a wall of lacing. Pine, grass and light syrup. Slick mouthfeel.
4.0Bottle. Pours orange with medium frothy off white head that lasts. The aroma is floral hop and grapefruit. Medium mouth, grapefruit, pine, nice bitterness, resin finish, very nice.
4.0Pours a slightly hazy, pale golden orange color with a two finger frothy white head that slowly settles into a lasting cap/ring. Splotchy lacing left behind.
Slightly earthy citrus hop aroma with dank buds, resinous, grassy pine needle and tropical fruit notes. Floral grass notes and pine needle followed by hints of mango, pineapple, grapefruit and lemon peel. Surprising citrus/tropical fruit character countered by subtle bread and biscuit malt.
Medium bodied with a blast of earthy bitterness that lingers over the sweet tropical/citrus fruit notes and pale malt backbone into a dry finish. Sticky, dry and bitter with grassy, piney hops followed by grapefruit sweetness, pineapple and orang zest. Malt backbone is a touch stronger than expected balancing things out but doesn’t interfere with the hop flavor. Some toffee, biscuit, bread and graham cracker flavor in the finish. Well balanced and easy to drink with subtle alcohol heat in the finish yet the abv is well masked. Nice beer from foothills.
3.5Bottle. Deep gold/orange body with a dense off-white head, slowly diminishing. Aroma of citrus, orange juice, resin, pine, grapefruit, toasted grain. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly to moderately bitter. It finishes lightly to moderately sweet and moderately bitter. Full to medium body, velvety texture, moderate carbonation. Lingering bitterness. Resin and pine balanced with sweet orange and citrus. Chewy with green, leafy, earthy hop taste on top of sweet, caramel malts.
3.9Pours an amber color with a foamy thick head. The aroma is of dank citrus scented hops and has a defined sweet caramel malt aroma. As I taste this I noticed a medium and pleasant lasting bitterness. There is a good citrus flavor with a potent sugary malted taste. Overall this is drinkable and has a very good body to it. I would have this again.
3.9Yummy! This is a well balanced and slightly more malt forward double ipa. I wanted a little more from the aroma, but the taste really delivered with tons of citrus and resin followed by a caramel malt bill that is quite prominent. Finish is plenty bitter with a slightly lingering sweetness. Appearance has a little bit of floaties, but nothing to dock their score over...
3.83/10/2015. 22 oz bottle. Clear amber with a large white head. Citrus, malt and caramel aromas. Nice balance, bitter flavors without being over the top. Excellent!
3.7I love hoppyum so I was assuming this was going to be an amped up version of it. It’s good but for me not amazing. There’s a really big malty sweetness and not much hoppiness to back it up. There’s a big grassiness and sweet taste. I hate to be the guy who says it but I’m really not loving this. I was expecting something different.
3.7Draft at the Community Tap. Yellow/orange pour with a white head. Herbal hop aromas. Medicinal/herbal hop notes. Hoppy and bitter with an undersized malt backbone. Average body and mouthfeel.
3.822 oz bottle from Pendulum Fine Meats in Norfolk, VA; cool place. Clear orange with a puffy beige head. Nose is honey, pink grapefruit, grass and slight musk. Oily and resiny medium body with muted carb. Taste is caramel, pine, grass and orange pith. Green and herbal, sticky then dry.
3.6On tap. Poured clear light amber with a generous and thick foamy off-white head; corresponding lacing. The aroma is appealing, but less hoppy than expected.
T - too sweet and short on hops, if judged by style. Ignoring that, this is a bold, well balanced ale that drinks like a bold APA with well-hidden ABV, although the alcohol adds complexity.
M - near medium body with medium+ carbonation. The higher ABV adds some warmth
O - this surprising "double IPA" is balanced and easy drinking.
3.3Location: 22 oz bottle from Bruisin’ Ales, 1/5/15
Aroma: The aroma is lighter than I expected, citrus/orange, pine notes, dough, and booze
Appearance: This one pours a clear orange color with a beige head that coats the glass
Flavor: The sweetness and citrus are subtle, bitterness comes through more than anything else
Palate: Medium-plus bodied, light heat, with a soft-to-average carbonation, and a dry finish
Overall Impression:
This one definitely needs to warm up a bit, when it is too cold the aroma is a little lacking. Once it warns up, it improves, but it still isn’t amazing. A DIPA from Foothills? Sounded exciting. This is okay, but I expected this one to be better.
3.9Sampled at esbls. big citrus with tropical fruit flavor and aroma. Cinnamon? Bitterness big but under control. Nice beer.
4.0Foothills’ first high gravity beer may have you Seeing Double. The hops are balanced with just enough body to craft a highly drinkable brew. Expect a full body and a hint of citrus from the seven varieties of hops added to the brew. IBU: 126.
3.5Cloudy golden pour with a single finger head. Aroma of pine, citrus. Strong grapefruit bitterness. Medium mouth. Lots of citrus in this one. Not overly balanced being a hop bomb, but it is pretty drinkable for how bitter it is.
3.1Very hoppy. Pretty good body. Nice lacing. Otherwise a mainstream IPA. Not much else.
3.7Shared bomber poured to snifters, showing a hazed to cloudy, orangey gold color, with a presentable layer of off white head foam, and spots & streaks of lacing. The nose was dank & leafy, with maybe some light esters as pit fruit & citrus, and a hint of caramel sweetness. Medium bodied, with decent carbonation, as not too much fruit transferred to the taste, which showed a strong, very lingering, rindy bitterness that seemed to mask the alcohol, and was tempered only slightly by some malt sweetness. An earthy & hearty DIPA,
4.6Pours a hazy light orange yellow with big frothy white head. Much lighter appearance than would be expected. Aroma sugared orange with slight citrus twang. Flavor surprisingly light on palate and perfectly balanced. Bit of dry bite up front then citrusy slight sweet middle and very mild warming boozy hop finish. Love it. Totally kickass beer.
4.4Near clear yellow copper. Aroma is orange biscuit. Taste is orange and bitter sour candy. Enjoyable and somewhat complex.
3.3Yellow pour with a white head. The aroma has some orange citrus and biscuit malt notes. The flavor is amid of grass and orange but tastes a bit old overall. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.
3.0Bottle...Pour is golden with a white head..Nose is pine, spice, caramels..Taste caramel, spice, stale, grains, some sweetness
3.7Bottle shared last June. Clear golden amber pour. White head. Big hops and bitterness with just a touch of malty sweetness. Nice!
4.0Pours clear copper with a copious creamy white head that slowly fades to a rim and coating. Aroma is caramel, vanilla and fruity orange jam. Taste is jammy citrus up front and a dry bitter finish and aftertaste. Some warming alcohol and caramel malt backing. Very drinkable DIPA with nice sweet/bitter balance. Very good.
3.7Bottle at Ryan and Jodi’s with friends. Pour is clear orange with a big white head and good lacing. Orange, tangerines, biscuit, pineapple, straw, light husk, and peaches in the aroma. Taste is oranges, light vanilla, mango, papaya, grassy, lemons, and dough with a light bitter finish. Medium body with high carbonation. Decent stuff.
3.5Poured from a bottle it is a clear golden color with a slight white head it has a citrus aroma and the taste is a bitter grapefruit flavor that resonates on the palate
3.9From a 22 oz bottle shared at home. Pours a clear copper with a thick off white head. Fruity hop nose. Flavors of citrus with some caramel notes. Bitter, but not over the top. Pleasant DIPA.
3.822 oz. bomber. Faint, sweet nose. Poured burnt orange with creamy off white head. Sheets of lace. Flavor is sweet malt, caramel, a touch earthy that finished bitter with a burst of grapefruit rinds. Medium bodied, a little chewy but smooth. Definitely not a fresh bottle but this has aged nicely.
