3.8 10 ounce sniffer glass at Flying Saucer Charlotte N.C. on vacation. Smell of chocolate and malt. Pitch black in color. Little bit of beiges head with film on glass. 2017 edition of this wonderful beer. taste malt and chocolate Pretty smooth with just a tab bit of an alcohol after bite.9.6 in alcohol. Overall this is a really nice stout
2.1 Good smell of roasted malt and fruit with good complexity...more bitter than I would like...retains throughout... complexity there but overwhelmed by bitterness..would be much better if not so bitter...heavy liquorice as it warms...with light cherry cough syrup... VERY rough when warm
3.8 Black pour with a thin off white head and lots of sticky lacing .... aroma of molasses, dark fruit, tobacco, cocoa and coffee ... taste is molasses, tobacco, dry cocoa, espresso, licorice, dark fruity yeast, semi sweet chocolate and roasted malts .... finish has dry cocoa, espresso, and tobacco ... abv hidden well ..... mouthfeel is slick and oily ... body is medium .... sessionable
4.0 Pours black with a tan head. The aroma has lots of chocolate, roasted malt, slight coffee and vanilla. Taste follows, with big milk chocolate dominating, mild coffee, and some mild caramel beneath. Long, slightly bitter finish. As far as chocolate imperial stouts go, this one is up there! Very nice
3.9 Poured from a bottle. Dark brown color, medium tan head. Smoky malt aroma. Full body with a hickory chocolate malt flavor and a nice finish.
3.9 22oz bottle pours inky black brown with two finger tan head. Nose and taste have big licorice, molasses, dusty dark bitter cocoa, baker’s chocolate, not very sweet, dark fruity finish with nice mouthfeel and some dryness on the finish. Solid. Not worth $18 22oz though.
4.0 Aroma of chocolate with notes of Nestles Quick. Dark Brown with a lasting tan head with nice lacing. Taste of chocolate and molasses with a full bodied oily feel and a bitter dark chocolate finish.
4.6 Bomber from Total Wine Gainesville Aroma: roasty, chocolate, coffee, molasses Appearance: black with a brown head Taste: medium sweetness, medium bitterness, Palate: medium body, creamy, soft carbonation, long finish, Delicious
4.4 On tap at the brewpub. Everything about this beer screams roasted chocolate - drinks really easily for a 10% abv. Lives up to the hype.
4.0 Yeah, just a darn good imperial stout. Chocolate roasty some dark fruit. Not the thickest body for such a big bruiser, but definitely a drinkable imperial. Good show.
4.1 Giant mocha nose, and the pour is infinite black with a dark brown head. Bittersweet chocolate on top of espresso, with a Hershey syrup backbone and a dry, clingy bitter fade. Dark cherry and raisin develop as it warms, but the finish refuses to grow cloy. Nice, but a bit boozy. Needs age. (2/2011)
4.0 Poured from tap as part of a flight at Foothills Brewpub. Decent lacing and head, black but not thick in appearance. Milk chocolate aroma, vanilla, like hot cocoa. Delicious.
3.8 On tap at Timothy’s. Black with medium beige head. Aroma is nice chocolate, medium body, light carbonation, and little lacing. Taste is dark chocolate with dry finish.
3.2 Shared with ebone1988 and Gus at Gus’ Birthday V1 and The Topaz Turns 100k Spaghettogether. For this fucking book. 22 oz bottle, 2014 vintage. The pour is a decent black with a thicker light khaki ring and a light hit of head. The aroma isn’t good. Bitter roasted malt and hoos are what greet you. There is a light alcohol and a touch of chocolate. It’s bitter and not chocolatey. The flavor is just not that good. There is a light roasted malt, a hint of molasses and humongous bitter hops. The bitterness throughout his beer is such a turn off. The chocolate is nonexistent. The bitter finish makes me slightly upset. The mouth feel is thin and watery with a brighter carbonation and a lingeringly bitter roasted malt on the finish. No thanks. Thanks for blowing it, Foothills.
3.7 Bottle shared with koleminer20 and Gus for Gus’ Birthday Part One and the Topaz Turns 100k Spahettogether. For the book. 2014 vintage. Aroma is sweet dark fruit, robust, roasted malt, hops, coffee, eh. Appearance is dark dark brown, light brown head, poured thin. Taste is roasted malt, dark fruit, smoke, robust, coffee, it tastes a lot like Mikkeller Black. Mouthfeel is medium body, light carbonation, robust dark fruit hops aftertaste. Overall, decent.
3.9 Bottle share @ Hampton Inn pre-DLD 2016. Pour is black with a very small off-white head. Notes of milk chocolate, cocoa powder, licorice, and roasted malt. Finish has some added molasses and toffee.
4.2 Pours a very dark brown with huge milk chocolate colored head. Aroma of cocoa nibs/cocoa powder, vanilla. Taste follows suit. Had this with chocolate brownie white chocolate chip cookies and what a pairing.
4.1 Special release 2014.
4.0 22 ounces February 2014 bottle shared with SlovakSniper, thanks for the share. Aroma: strong chocolate, coffee beans, spices, tobacco, cinnamon, oxydation. Taste and palate: full body, lots of chocolate, moderate sweetness, light smokiness and subtle acidity in the finish. Overall: good but wonder how it was more fresh. We can see that time aged this one and probably not in a good way. Not too much but we can definitely see that it’s oxidized. Wish I could have tasted it more fresh. Still really good. A beer for smoked/tobacco/chocolate beer fans.
4.1 Tasted from bottle. Pours black with thick tan head. Aroma is chocolate, coffee and some pepper, little bit of toffee. Taste is very well balanced. With moderate bitterness balanced by caramel and toffee malt backbone. Not that bitter bite in the after taste. Nice chocolate and coffee flavor. Well done.
3.5 Tap. The look is the expected darkness, black in color, tan head. The smell is malt, roast, slight harsh and staleness, dark fruit, chocolate. The taste is mostly the same. Maybe the expectation but I expected more. Seemed toned down.
4.0 Pours black with a medium brown head that slowly fades and leaves behind a small ring and little to no cap. AROMA: chocolate both sweet and bitter, dark roasted malt, mellow coffee, herbs, woody, grainy, vanilla, spices, molasses, herbal hops, earthy, phenols and toffee. TASTE: lchocolate both sweet and bitter, dark roasted malt, coffee, herbs, woody, boozy, spices, vanilla, molasses, herbal hops, earthy, phenols and toffee. AFTER TASTE: chocolate, coffee, malt, grainy, spices and slight herbs with an oily smooth finish and a nice boozy warmth in the chest.
4.5 Poured from the tap into a tulip glass. The appearance is pitch black with a small tan head. The aroma is chocolate malt. The taste is chocolate malt with a slight coffee finish. An outstanding beer.
3.8 650ml bottle enjoyed @ home, 2015 vintage, thanks to Brian Parker!. Pours pitch black with an average beige head. Aroma is cocoa and lots of it! Coffee, roasted malt, molasses, vanilla, dark bitter chocolate and caramel. Taste is medium+ bitter and medium sweet. Full bodied, smooth texture, average carbonation. Finish is cocoa and dark chocolate, quite bitter.
4.1 2014 Bottle at tasting, many thanks! Pours black with tan head. Lots of chocolate, roasted malt, slight coffee and vanilla. Taste follows the same with big chocolate notes, coffee, and some mild caramel beneath. Long, slightly bitter coffee finish. Very nice!
3.6 Bottle. Grabbed one off the shelf right out of the box. Instant buyers remorse when it rang up for $18. Sat in the fridge for about two months. Pours like a beautiful imp. stout. Aroma and flavor dominated by soy sauce. Some anise spice but not living up to the hype.
3.8 Raisin and prune aroma. Black licorice. Musty. Black pour at home from 22oz bottle. Cocoa and milky. Good.
3.6 Draft->snifter at Spacebar. Deep brown with small lite tan head. A: chocolate, roasted malt, soy sauce. T: dark coffee, toffee, soy sauce, caramel. Too much soy.
3.8 Draft pour into a pint glass (DAMN). The beer is a dark brow to black with a khaki head of foam. The aroma has ashy dark chocolate with notes of caramel and toffee. Some nutty notes. Big body and medium carbonation.
3.7 Draft at ChurchKey. Dark black pour with a slight tan head. Big roasted malt nose. Bitter chocolate, roasted malt, tobacco, finishes roasty rather than malty. Nice.
