Fordham & Dominion Helles Lager

Fordham & Dominion Helles Lager

Our Fordham Lager is a golden Bavarian-style lager, with a firm malty body, a subtle hop character, and a slightly sweet finish. Helles is the German word for light or pale, referring to the color of the beer. This is the everyday drinking beer for Germans in Munich. Fordham Lager is bottom-fermented, making it a lager beer, and has a medium to light-body. It has a clean, malt accented aroma and a malty finish with little hop bitterness. Our Fordham Lager is a very balanced beer, meaning that it is not too sweet and not too bitter. It is brewed mostly with pale malted barley and small amounts of Vienna and Munich malts, which increases the body and maltiness in the beer.

3.0 12 ounce bottle- poured out a cloudy yellow-gold with a robust and long lasting white head. Aroma was quite sour. Taste was fair, hops and a corn sweetness. Palate was a little thicker than the average lager. Not bad.
3.3 From the beer of the month club. Pours a light pale orange with an above average foamy white head. This beer has a medium sweetness with medium bitter malts and grainy flavor.
3.5 Bottle. Beer of the Month Club. Pours clear and golden with white head. citrus, grass and some grain aroma, grainy bitter taste, fresh and malty. Medium body, fizzy, long finish. Decent.
2.6 Pours orange with a nice head, aroma of bread, vanilla and dough, flavor of malt, caramel, some herbal hops, pretty sweet, medium bodied
2.6 12oz bottle poured into a tulip glass. Hazy (from chill) golden with a medium white head. Bready malt aroma, with mellow floral hops and faint sulfur. Clean light malt flavor, bread, lo-med bitterness, and egg notes. Light-med bodied, somewhat creamy dry. OK for what it is.
2.5 Bottle. Beer of the Month Club. Slightly hazy deep golden-orange color with a small, quickly-dissipating, white head. Grainy aroma with some malt, hay, a hint of caramel and light floral notes. Sweetish grainy flavor with malt, vegetal hints and a mildly bitter finish. Light-medium-bodied. Drinkable but not great.
2.5 Bottle from beersofeurope.com. Cloudy dark amber lacking any head. Citrus malt aroma - very faint, as is the taste. It has that salty malted helles character but with no real duration. Far too watery.
3.0 Bottle. Light notes of grain, hay and herbs for the malt and hops, with a hint of paper and cooked vegetables. head is small, fizzy, white with no lacing and is mostly diminshing. Flavor is faintly sweet and lightly acidic, then finishes lightly acidic and faintly bitter. Palate is light to medium, watery with a lively carbonation. A nice drinking beer with only some Helles aspects to it.
2.7 Pours a tan-gold color with a thin white head. Aroma is spicy, belgian yeast, some skunk; acidic. Taste is sharp, Belgian yeast, slightly sweet, some fruit. Clean mouthfeel. Not bad, but certainly not great.
2.5 Average attempt at a helles lager. bitter on the front with a soapy and flat finish. Not something I will buy again.
3.0 Good taste, tasty and good strength... Slightly bland aftertaste but a decent beer overall
2.8 Bottle - average size foamy head, medium straw color, sweet malty aroma and flavor with a mild hop balance - refreshing
2.4 Bottle. Sweet grainy malt aroma. Hazy golden with a moderate white head. Sweet grainy malt flavor with a slightly bitter finish. Light flat body.
2.8 Bottle pours a clear golden ale with a thin light head. Light hop aroma and faint fruit. Taste of mild hops and a little malt, it fits the lager style and is a fair example of the type.
3.0 This beer is nothing special, but if you’re looking for a beer that has extreme drinkablity, then this is one. The malts nor hops really come through, but the taste is solid.
2.4 Bottle. Sweet creamy barley malt aroma. Golden yellow with giant head. Sweet corn and barley malt flavor with a light herbal hops finish. Low carbonation. Meh.
2.6 355ml bottle from Westholme Stores, Goring. Dark straw with a billowing cream head that falls back to thin film; spicy yeasty aroma; sweet with a flabby grainy body; and some spicy hops and honey to finish.
3.2 Straightforward, well-made lager. Sweet, grainy aroma with a crystal clear, light golden body. Taste is more balanced than aroma, fairly dry and mildly hoppy with a hint of caramel. The sweet graininess stays afterwards, yet it is refreshing. A good, drinkable beer, perfect for summer afternoons. A nice change from my usual summer selection of pale ales, saisons and pils.
3.4 A very nice summer beer. Pours a pale yellow with a thick white head. The aroma has some lime and sweet malt. The flavor has the lime and malt with just enough hops to balance. Drink this one ice cold.
3.2 Snifter from bottle. A: slightly sweet malt. App: medium gold, half a finger, quickly dispersing head. T: very refreshing. Nice malt on the front, nice balance of hop on the back. P: medium bubbles, lingering aftertaste.
3.3 Pours a lighter straw color with a very thin head. Clear in clarity. Carbonation is light. Aroma is toasted malts. Taste is bisuit and toasted malts, grassy hops and light spices. By spices I mean faint nuiances of lemon and corrinder. Maybe it leans tords the wit side. Medium feel in the mouth. Watery around the edges. Semi dry and a tad bitter. This would be an excellant chain restaurant beer.
3.4 A solid Helles. Nothing remarkable or stand out about it, but drinkable and enjoyable. Aroma and taste are slightly bitter with a nice bready feel. A nice dark wheat color, soft palate.
3.3 Draft. Bright golden color, white edge head. Aroma of dusty hay and white pepper. Taste is lager-like, not too remarkable.
2.4 Slightly hazy pale yellow colored, with small wispy head. Aroma is sweet and malty , with hints of hops, and well balanced. Thirst quenching but rather flat and boring. Slightly bitter dry finish. Light and easy to drink but not my style in general. Worth a try if you really need a fast light liquid alcoholic thirst quencher. Quaff Score 4 / 10
2.6 Pours gold with a white head and aroma of malts and hops. Taste is sweet, of sweet malts, hops, and grains with a slightly bitter finish. Very light, drinkable, refreshing brew, but nothing special
2.3 Keg at The Draft House, Tower Bridge, London. Gold with white head, carbonated. Quite a perfumed beer, flowery, some ginger and apple. A touch sweetish in the body, lemonade. Mixed.
3.0 Poured a pale yellow color with a medium-sized white head. Aroma has light corn and rice. A bit skunky with some grains as well. Taste is crisp and with some decent grain and malt flavors. More flavor than I was expecting. Finish is crisp with some hops and light fruit. Aftertaste is a little sweet. Overall not bad.
3.0 Sample at Ale Wine & Spirits in Powell on 01/20/2012. The beer is a clear pale golden color with a medium thin white head that recedes quickly. Short strings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of doughy malt and grassy hops. Light body with flavors of sweet malt, grain and more grassy hops. The finish is herbal and grassy with a mild hops aftertaste. Fairly average overall.
1.9 Pale gold color with little to no head. Aroma is like apple juice and a bit yeasty, earthy. Taste is biscuity and chalky. Finish is clean.
3.2 No aroma really. Light and little carbonation. Enjoyable to drink and would definitely recommend any fan of lagers to try.
