3.6Bottle at Borefts 2015 after tasting.. Dark chocolate.. Thick tan head... Soft dark coffee chocolate malts nose.. Dark roast.. Dark fruits roast.. Sweet dusty chocolate roast malts
3.6Chocolate and roasted malt certainly make for a tasty beer but it doesn’t rise above with the best of the style.
3.4Bottle at Ölrepubliken cons 2015-07-10 Göteborg
AR: roasted malty, caramel
AP: dark brown, frothy head
F: chocolate beans, roasted malt, caramel, white sugary, milky and creamy
3.9Bottle at Ölrepubliken, Göteborg. Roasted malt and caramel aroma, chocolate, cocoa, licorice, milk chocolate, raisins, some vanilla. Roasted chocolate and cocoa aroma, vanilla, licorice, vinous, raisins, figs, some vinous notes. Quite nice.
3.9Pours a dark brown or black color. For the sake of the name, I’m going to call it a chocolate syrup color. Has about a one finger khaki tan head that doesn’t really linger. But the lacing does. I’m seeing weird bubbles floating on top.
Aroma is more of dark roasted malt than of anything else. The dark roasted malt is quite strong. I also detect some coffee and chocolate, although I can’t tell which one is stronger. After much smelling, I’m thinking the coffee shows up a bit more than the chocolate.
Tastes pretty heavy on coffee. I can taste the chocolate, but it shows up late. The dark roasted malt is really the star of this beer. It’s a shame, chocolate should be the star.
Mouthfeel is medium-full. It’s very smooth, and creamy. It finishes bitter, like espresso. The bitterness might be from hops, but I can’t tell. There’s just a bit of spiciness at the end.
Overall, it’s pretty good. I like it. I would drink it again. But with a name like double chocolate stout, and the description on the bottle, I was expecting much more chocolate. It’s sweet enough I guess, but not chocolatey. The high alcohol in this beer, is helpful. It’s certainly worth a try.
3.812 oz bottle. Pours black with small dark brown highlights and nice medium brown head. Creamy, low carbonation, and good lacing. Taste is chocolate, some coffee. Very good beer.
3.4Bottle. Deep black color, full body, thick, tall tan head. Bitter chocolate flavor, dry notes, overall nice stout
3.7Pours black with a beige head. Taste is very sweet and deep with chocolates and malts, thin body. Aroma is thin though some chocolate can be noticed. Palate is a bit thin though not too thin. Overall a really pleasant beer though no blockbuster
3.5Very great and not so thick but still amazingly flavored. Aroma of chocolate and a little bit of coffee.
3.6On draft at Sevens Peak 7 Breckenridge. Pours black with a tan head. Nice cocoa aroma. Flavors of chocolate and coffee. Medium bodies. Smooth roasted finish.
3.612oz bottle from Crossroads. Pours pitch black with a tiny tan head of foam. Aroma is full of dark and milk chocolate, coffee, caramel, and vanilla. Taste of bitter coffee, earth, dark chocolate, caramel, and vanilla.
3.9Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a Caracole Saxo glass. Pours black with light brown head and lace. Aroma of dark chocolate pie. Medium carbonation and significant mouthfeel. Flavors of dark roasted malts, dark chocolate, bitter chocolate, bitter roots, straw hops. Overall rich, full bodied, flavorful with some bitter notes.
Feb. 4, 2016 - Bought a 4 pack to support the Pints for Prostates beer cap/ - education promotion. Review remains mostly the same but I’ll up the tates and overall.
3.2On nitro tap at Colorado Plus. Black appearance with a tan head. Bitter chocolate, roasted malts and coffee. Creamy feel, a little thin. Kinda meh.
3.4Flaska Bishops arms. Svart kulör. Doft av mjölkchoklad med rostade undertoner. Något tunn i smaken men chokladen återfinns även här.
3.3Flaska på bishop. Svart med beige skum. Doft av choklad, vin och russin. Smak av kaffe och choklad.
4.1bottle @ Party Town / Florence KY --- Opaque brown/black with a good 3/4" beige head cover, a wall of lace. Aroma of malt and chocolate. Taste is milk chocolate malt that grows until hops make a timid entrance on the swallow. Malt takes over again, moving the chocolate milk to a long sweet finish. This is a big brew, and an exquisite brew, well worth the effort. Highly recommended.
3.612oz bottle. Pours dark chocolate black. Light head that fades to nothing. Nice but typical aroma - coffee, burnt malts, little chocolate and a whiff of licorice (more robust as it warms). I was hoping for more from this beer. It's good but not great. Yes it has the formulaic characteristics of a stout but not enough chocolate to call it double. Rogue double chocolate stout is much better but much more pricey.
3.4Boot black with short tan head. Audible carbonation. No lacing. Wet. Aroma alcohol, cocoa malt. Taste is roasted chocolate malt, coffee, alcohol. Slightly burnt coffee aftertaste. Flavorful but a bit thin.
3.922 ounce bottle into snifter, no bottle dating. Pours fairly pitch black color with a 1-2 finger dense khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, roasted malt, caramel, toffee, toast, nuttiness, light char, light raisin, and roast/toasted earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark, roast, and bready malt notes; with good strength. Taste of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, roasted malt, caramel, toffee, toast, nuttiness, light char, light raisin, and roast/toasted earthiness. Fair amount of roast/coffee bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, roast, caramel, toffee, toast, nuttiness, light char/raisin, and roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Very nice robustness and complexity of dark, roast, and bready malt flavors; with a nice malt bitterness/sweetness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a smooth, moderately creamy, and lightly chalky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a light warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very nice imperial stout. All around good complexity, robustness, and balance of dark, roast, and bready malt flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering.
3.8Pours black with small tan head. Burnt malts and dark chocolate palate. Smoky, bitter finish
3.6Pours black. Aroma and taste are chocolate, roasted malts, and coffee. Finishes mildly sweet.
3.5Black pour with a thin off white head and light sticky lacing ... Taste is of bitter dark chocolate roasted and bitter with a caramel malt backbone ... Aroma of chocolate, roasted malts and caramel malts .... has a lingering bitter bite
3.312oz bottle (8.5% ABV per bottle) into Le Guinness Coupe du Monde 2010 - nose is wet toasted wheat bread. Sip adds coffee. I like the style but this particular example is not doing it for me; it’s too boring. As it warms I get more chocolate. dry.
3.5Pours a dark brown with gold highlights, a good tan head with decent lacing. Aroma is roasted malt with coffee beans and some cocoa and chocolate. Taste is less chocolatey than expected with the roasted malt and dark coffee flavors being more prominent. There are some hints of chocolate but they are in the background. Also a sharp roasty bitterness that borders on tasting metallic, but doesn’t offend my palate. Finishes with mild coffee and bitterness. Mouthfeel is semi creamy with a medium body and low/medium carbonation. Solid and good tasting stout but is more balanced than expected, considering its name.
3.3On tap in Clemson. A little thin. Finishes hoppy. Not my favorite.
3.5dark brown to black in color with a thin tan head with some lacing. aroma is roasted malts, coffee, and dark chocolate. flavor is the same. medium carbonation.
3.4Old bottle in my parent’s fridge. Pour is dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma is milk chocolate shake and light roasted malt. Flavor is really really true to.aroma. light milk chocolate and faint roasted malt. Not complicated. A little sweet and a little thin on the palate.
3.6From 12oz bottle.
Pours dark with tan head. Aroma of chocolate and malt, with a touch of coffee thrown in nicely. Nice full taste of those three.
3.7Dark pour with little tan head from a bottle. Considering it is a double chocolate stout the chocolate isn’t overwhelming. Nice sweet chocolate and malt up front with a smooth coffee finish.
2.9In a bottle coffee with chocolate not as good their chocolate stout.
