4.4 Oaky wood and marmalade. Quite boozy but also very tasty. Aniseed and bourbon combine with candy and hops. Dunno how strong this 2017 vintage is but it tastes pretty potent and very sippable
4.0 Hazy copper color with medium white head. Aromas of wood, bourbon and caramelized malts. Taste of liquor, bourbon and cognac, with white grapes, sweet and intense. Oily texture, moderate alcoholic warmth for its ABV, well-integrated. Lots of nuts in the aftertaste, walnut and hazelnut, together with a medium, earthy bitterness. Fantastic.
4.5 hazy orange colour, medium sized dense off-white head; aroma of marmalade, caramel and biscuity notes, slight vanilla and bourbon notes;taste is the same with resiny bitterness and alcoholic notes; excellent IIPA
4.4 Butelka przeterminowana 3 miesiące (więc piwo wyleżakowane). Pachnie trochę karmelowo, trochę chmielowo, czuć ewidentnie typowe dla beczki nuty waniliowe, do tego suszone owoce. Alkohol praktycznie niewyczuwalny.
4.3 355ml bottle bought at Total Wine and More. Quite strong and boozy, with hints of orange and a clear oak-y flavour
4.1 Bottle @ tasting with Joen and Niilstrong. Clear dark orange color, medium sized off-white head that lasts for quite a while. Aroma is malts, hops and alcohol. Hmm well this is something else. Heavy, possibly too heavy. Flavor is malts, firm to huge hoppiness and resinous hops. Love this. Don't get any bourbon (fortunately), but the heavy resinous piney hops are absolutely tremendous. Insane but lovely!
Deep golden-orange color with an off-white head. Aroma is bourbon, sugar, caramel, oranges. Flavor is bourbon, sugar, pine, oranges, alcohol, dried fruits, grapefruit, caramel. Medium to full body.
3.9 Bottle. Hazy Dark Golden pour, White head. Nose is mainly hoppy, taste hoppy then quite clear bourbon notes. Full body, soft carbonation.
3.6 Sample at Beavertown Extravaganza 2017. A cloudy orange coloured beer with an off-white head. Aroma and flavour of oak, vanilla, malt, caramel, hops, citrus and bourbon.
3.9 35,5cl Bottle @ Saveur-Biere, Lille, France. Hazy amber colour with a thin white head. Aroma is malt, sweet, hops, citrus, pine, bourbon, oak. Taste is malt, caramel, hops, citrus, grapefruit, grass, bourbon, oak. Medium to full body, soft carbonation.
4.4 Red, cloudy nice white foam. Chockolate raisins and fruit in the aroma. Chockolate, vanilla, candy with mild bitterness in the aftertaste. Great.
3.7 12oz bottled 4/2017 (2017 Release), Saveur, opened 2018-3. - - Short: didn't think this would blend as well as it did, infusing dense citric spruce jam and young apricot with the light perfume of vanilla sugar, oak and bourbon notes, elevating its otherwise cumbersome crystal malt mouthfeel to an astounding drinkability considering its amped BA-IIPA abv. Once the basic flavours settle, there is little development in warming up or in terms of yeast subtleties - a familiar US trademark: marketable WYSIWYG. - Enjoyed sipping this by myself.
3.5 355ml bottle. Cloudy, orangey golden colour with average, frothy to creamy, moderately lasting, minimally lacing, off-white head. Initial, minimally sugary, caramel malty aroma gives way for woody, oaky, tannic, minimally toasty, vanilla-infused BA notes, whiffs of citrusy hop make their way once in a while and lend hints of lemon and orange zest. Taste is dry, woody, oaky, slightly tannic, hints of vanilla, earthy hints of old nutshells, citrusy hoppy overtones; biting, bitter hoppy and warming, alcoholic finish. Useless high abv.
3.7 17/20 absolutely lovely, loads of oak and vanilla, overpowering taste but lovely, great whisky beer
4.1 The strongest beer I've ever drank. I don't love it, but it's very interesting.
3.9 On tap at Harry’s Jyväskylä pouring deep copper color. Aroma of malts, caramel, sweetness, alcohol, bourbon, citrus, tropical fruits. Full body, bitterness to balance the alcohol, but it is alcohol and malts first, not your average DIPA. Still the fruitiness is there. Feels more like a hopped barley wine, which isn’t bad, but the alcohol presence is a bit too strong I think, Devil Dancer was more balanced than this. Still, I like these heavy barley wines, so this one is nice beer as well.
4.1 Very good imperial IPA. Tastes slightly orangey to me in terms of flavour, with nice whisky notes.
3.4 Scent of oak barrels and bourbon. Slightly fruity and oak barrels and bourbon. Much bitterness that fills the upper part of the mouth for a long time. Okay beer. Follow me @ Kung av öl @ Facebook for more pictures and ratings.
3.8 Bottle 12fl.oz. @ home. [ As Founders Barrel-Aged Series - Doom Imperial India Pale Ale Bourbon Barrels ]. ABV: 12.4%. Light unclear medium orange colour with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white to white head. Aroma is moderate to light light heavy malty, caramel, dried fruit, moderate to heavy hoppy, grass, pine, spruce, spicy, orange - citrus, vanilla, alcohol - bourbon. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration, bourbon, vanilla, pale malt, hoppy, dried fruit, boozy. Body is medium to full, texture is oily, carbonation is soft, finish feel is moderate alcoholic. [20180328] 8-3-8-4-15
4.7 (∞-god-liqueur-fruité (rouge-noir-jaune), sirupeux, amer raisonné, ~miel-érable, camo, "fûté", cointreau, ∞-savant)
3.9 355ml bottle. Hazy amber with a small off-white head. Aroma is very resinous, bourbon, sweet caramel, toffee. Taste is boozy, resinous, sweet malts, caramel, toffee, some fruitiness, bourbon barrel, boozy finish with a slight bitterness. Full bodied, fine carbonation. A very nice sipper.
3.8 I can't recall ever having a barrel aged Imperial IPA. Pours a golden copper with frothy white head. Aroma seemed to have a more pronounced malt than hop presence. Taste: sweet vanilla oak flavor at first, followed by a bitter sharp citrus pine. Interesting flavor; but the barrel aging produced more of an American strong ale taste rather than IIPA.
3.4 Bottle from de Bierliefhebber, bottled on 04.27.17. Almost clear golden to amber color, medium rocky head. Malty aroma, caramel, bready, but aslo some grapefruit. I doubt a fresh example would be focused on hop predominantly, it probably would be quite malty anyways. In taste, abit of cookie sweetness, bready malts and slight dry bitterness, Bourbon doesnt give a lot of vanilla, more some cookie and a bit of extra booze. Interesting, but not mindboggling.
4.5 Bottle at home. Pours a clear amber to copper with almost no head. Aroma is very rich, extremely piney and hoppy, some fresh cut grass. Considering this is a BA Imperial IPA with 12+ abv the freshness of the hops is seriously impressive. Obviously big malty aroma with a lot of caramel coming through. Some oak and vanilla from the barrel, though not very emphasised. Quite a bit of fruit aroma, plums and figs mostly. Huge heavy body. Thick mouthfeel. Flavour is heavy, sweet and bitter. All amped up but working well together. Maltiness is showcased nicely, a lot of crystal malts I suppose as there's a lot of caramel flavour coming through. High bitterness with great hoppiness. Herbal and grassy with a lot of pine rather than citrus fruit showcased here, though there is some heavy citrus (lemon and lime, grapefruit) in the finish. Again plum and figs. The barrel is really noticeable, a lot more so than the aroma lets on. Big bourbon flavours, some vanilla, heavy oak. Finish is long and as already mentioned brings forth the citrus if the hops. Slightly warming and boozy, still caramelly sweet. Woah, what a beer. Bourbon BA Imperial IPA? Works fantastically well!
