Founders Backstage Series # 7: Mango Magnifico con Calor
Mango Magnifico is a never-before-released, high-gravity fruit beer brewed with mango and Michigan-grown habaneros. Each 750mL bottle of this 10% ABV ale is intended to be shared. Not a traditional fruit beer, the delicate tropical fruit in Mango Magnifico is punctuated by a hint of heat, increasing the overall depth of flavor and adding another level of complexity. 3.8(Bottle) Hazy amber colour with frothy, off-white head. Fruity, vinous nose with ripe mango, tropical fruit, orange and flowers (hibiscus). Fruity, spicy taste with notes of mango, ripe fruit, melon, orange and a vinous finish with a generous chilli heat. Full body, quite sweet. I wouldn't say balanced, but quite tasty, with lots of mango and a generous chilli bite. Very nice.
4.5Obtained at Westons Market Liquor from Murrieta, California for $10.99, Mango Magnifico con calor 2016 is a malt beverage fermented with mango and habanero crafted by Founders Brewing Company from Grand Rapids, Michigan.
The smell of mango and honey are felt upon the nose. The appearance is an orange gold with a low white head. Light reveals sediment and carbonation. The alcohol content is 10%.
Honey has a syrupy feel to the mouthfeel, sweetens the complexion, and tasted when you lick your chops. Cane sugar adds a sugary touch to the honeyed drink. Sweet malt is sensible upon the honey and sugar comprehension. Mango flavors the body and assists with the sweet tone. Habanero slightly peppers the beer during the first several drinks, and intensifies into a moderate spice as you continue to drink.
Mango Magnifico con calor is a radiant mango ale. The honey, cane sugar, sweet malt, mango, and habanero combine into a palatable craft beer. Right out of the bottle, the honey, cane sugar, and mango blend together into a strong sweet experience. As the beer cools, the honey and mango sweetness becomes tolerable as the habanero spice grows. The habanero spice and alcohol burn harmonize during the finish. The habanero spice will be stronger since I like strong spices. I cherished every single drink and loved the depth to this brew. There is a lot of sediment at the bottom of the bottle, so be careful when you pour.
Cheers. Prost. Drink for the love of beer.
5.0Sweet & spicy

Cloudy orange-copper colour with small head. It's like drinking a mango candy, sweet, with a nice habanero kick. I shouldn't like it but I do.
3.8Bottle - Nice rich sweet mango. Clearish gold with a small white head. Intense mango, nice sweetness and a balancing heat on the finish. I was a bit sceptical, but call me a convert.
4.06/2/18: 2016 750 ML 2016 bottle, multiple pours into nonic glass. Honey golden pour, light white thin lacing. Much sediment in bottle and pour, heavy carbonation. Sweet mango aroma, tart taste, sweet mango offset by pepper, very nice balance. Thin texture, carbonation holds well, ABV provides a nice kick, spicy finish. Very good offering, looking forward to next pour.
3.4Draft @ Ølfestival 2016. Pours a hazy golden color with a small white head. Has a fruity malty spicy mango aroma. Fruity malty spicy mango and chili flavor. Has a fruity malty spicy mango and chili finish.
3.7The aroma is fruit, mango. Pours a clear copper/orange with big foamy white head, mostly lasting and excellent lacing. The taste is a medium sweet, then a little heat - Very nice. The body is medium/full, the texture creamy, the carbonation lively and the finish long. Very Nice Beer!

3.40,75 litre Bottle ordered at Systembolaget Charlottenberg, at home. Cloudy orange, with little head. Mango aroma and taste, habanero sting in The aftertaste! Not bad

Pours a hazy, orange body with a small white head. Sweet and strong aroma of plums, herbs, and mint, with chocolate and caramel in the back. Strong flavour of plums, chili, and mint. Moderate sweet taste with a hot and long-lasting chili finish. Full body, syrupy texture, moderate carbonation. A bit too much, I didn’t want any more after finishing my tiny sample. But then, half an hour later, my wife produced a dark chocolate chili mousse cake, and this beer was an extraordinary perfect match with the cake! The heat from the beer and the cake played very well together, and the massive fruitiness in the beer really enhanced the chocolate. A match made in heaven!
[65 cl bottle, 2016 edition, blind tasted with Svensenga smak & behag]
4.0Smell of mango syrup, malt, sugar. Come in clear golden copper color with thin white crown. Taste of balanced sugar mango sweetness and cayenne red pepper at finish. But it?s way too sweet. Almost dilute it with bud light. Leave some good heat on your throat. Unique but too sweet.
(Rating #7701)
4.7Bottle - wow - sure it’s sweet, very sweet in fact, but what depth of flavour - excellent combo of strong mango and exquisitely judged chilli - can’t drink a lot of this but hey, a joy to share and sip and put the world to right.
3.4Mildly murky dark golden pour with a short-lived dull white head. Mango and cream nose. Heavy mouthfeel. Slick. Nearly syrupy. Dull sweetness. Somewhat rich. Mango and cantaloupe flavors. Peach schnapps.
3.0Bottle from Lexington Beerworks. Aroma is mango as advertised, with some habanero in the finish. Taste is borderline cloying, would have been nice to have more heat to balance it.
4.120/20 simply incredible. Boozy mango that’s so moreish to start. It then transforms into a completely different beer with the furry chilli. So well balanced. Delicious
4.2Rating #2485 - 2016.05.03 - Bottle at Bru in Philly. Pours a light hazy yellow colour, fairly thick white foam. Aroma is mango habanero salsa. Flavour is some booze, mild pepper heat, and some tropical fruit sweetness. Unreal.
4.0On tap (keg) at The Craft Beer Co, Angel Islington on 2-Feb-2017. Clear golden pale colour with a small white head. Aroma of tropical fruit, citrus and chilli. Medium body and carbonation. Amazingly fruity. Lots of fresh mango, apricot and lemon followed by a chilli burn. Lovely and fresh, Alcohol very well hidden. Different - really enjoyable.
3.7Keg at Craft Beer Co, Islington, London. An orange/amber coloured pour with a medium white head on top. Sweet, fruity, mango aroma. Tastes similar, quite sweet, mango, fruity but with a nice chilli kick. I rather liked it, reminded me of a boozy mango chutney, this beer would go really well with a ruby murray.
2.8Smell is pretty awesome, all mango.. a touch of (too) sweet maltiness. Appearance is nothing to write home about.. a light orange/brown color w/ very little head. The taste is sugar, mango, a hint of funk.. perhaps from the peppers. Starts smooth, the heat creeps in on the backend. Definitely can’t do a ton of this at a sitting...
4.3How: bottle Appearance: almost clear dark golden with a red shimmer, small white head. Aroma: wow. Loads of unripe mango, lemon juice, chilies, pepper, mango chutney, apples, light syrup, apricots and hint of wood. Palate: full to medium body, medium to low carbonation. Yum.
3.8750ml bottle from Windsor Hy-Vee in a Sam Smith pint glass. Strong fruit on the nose, strikes me as more apricot than mango, but close enough. Bit of white grape, apple/pear there too, and a faint trace of carbohydrates. Doesn’t actually smell that much like beer. Pours a hazy golden amber with generous carbonation clinging to the sides and rising from the bottom of the glass, with a thin cover that dissolves to just a trace of head in a few minutes. Taste is crisp lager acidity up front with a tang of fruit juice moving in, then the distinctive zing of habanero, biting at the back of the throat, with an appealingly complex floral/hoppy/fruity/chile finish that lingers with the heat of the peppers. Light-bodied with great carbonation and great acidity. Strong capsaicin presence makes gauging mouthfeel more difficult than usual, but basically we’re looking at a brew that’s light and easy to drink with a long, crisp finish. Interesting. The finish is definitely my favorite part. Habanero is a complex flavoring agent, and the hop selection in the brew have been well chosen to interface with and emphasize its many unique qualities, especially its subtle sweetness. There’s definitely some heat here though, I couldn’t make a habit of drinking this, but it’s an extremely well crafted brew. Thanks again Founders!
3.5(on tap) Alaranjada de média turbidez, espuma branca de bolhas anormalmente grande, média persistência. Aroma de leve acidez mas predominância de manga, pêssego, frutas amarelas bem maduras, alcoólica. Paladar transparece a pimenta e especiarias. Corpo médio e baixa carbonatação. Final persistente mas o azedo não foi do mais agradável, esperava mais.
3.5Bottle. Orange color with white head. Mango and citrus aroma. Mango and tangerine upfront with pepper notes. Pleasant warm pepper burn in the finish.
4.2Keg craft Covent Garden. Amber thin head. Aroma is lots of sweet mango jam. Taste much the same really sweet which I like with great hot chilli burn no sign of abv. Very good could easily do a session!!
3.1Sweet mango fruit aroma. Clear Amber colour good head and lacing. Malt mango flavour with hot chilli aftertaste.
3.3Bottle. Pour is orange/amber with a small white head. Notes of mango, cane sugar, vanilla, and honey. Very sweet.
