Founders Cerise

Founders Cerise

You’ll have a soft spot for this one. Using only fresh Michigan tart cherries, this beauty tantalizes with intense flavors combined with a no hesitation malt bill. Adding fresh cherries at five separate stages of fermentation achieves the ultimate balance between tartness and sweetness.

2.1 Bottle: Chill hazed ruby red color with a dingy hint of orange in the center; lavender & pink tinted head fizzles out, resting quietly on top as a thin collar. Aroma is very wildberry smoothie-like with a strong cherry presence all around. Unfortunately, I find the cherry aspect to be quite artificial, medicinal, & almost chalky. Taste is pretty much the same way... Mildly tart cherry up front, fading into a sweet mid-palate & finish with chalky, medicinal, & overly sweet artificial notes. Aftertaste reminds me of a cherry flavored Flintstone’s vitamin. Slightly astringent, too. This is definitely a miss for me... I blended this with Breakfast Stout once, & much preferred the mixture versus Cerise by itself.
3.4 Although fruit beers are not really my thing, I discovered the redeeming effects of them after a long hot day working on the lawn. Refreshing, tangy cherry aroma and taste, although I think Founders didn’t do themselves any favors with the malts they chose to provide the backbone with this one. The fruit alone is enough to impart the thirst quenching flavors, but the cloying malt flavor goes against that and ruins it. Finish not great.
2.8 Picked up a bottle at their place in GR. Pours reddish with a thin pink head. Lots of tart cherries on the nose. Flavor follows. Somewhat tart but not sour. Refreshing summer beer.
4.6 I had this at Peel Pizza. Pours reddish with pinkish head. Taste sweet, cherries, sour. I thought this was pretty good. I would definitely drink this again.
3.5 bottle. Red with small head. Excellent fruit beer with huge cherry flavor. Lightly tart.
3.6 Has a weird slightly mixed drink type aroma. Big good cherry flavors. Pretty sweet. Huge carbonation similar feel to a soda. Big sugary feel on the tongue. Not getting much tart.
3.6 little to no head. a little tart , strong cherry flavor and aroma. good fruit beer
3.7 This one was better than expected. It is definitely balanced between sweet and tart. I just wish it went more in one direction or the other. Would be good sour or a good sweet fruit beer.
3.5 Tasted from a bottle. Pours a pinkish red with pinkish white head. Good lacing. Aroma of tart cherries. I was expecting this to taste pretty sour but not at all. Definite cherry taste. A great balance of sweet and tartness. Very slight bitterness at the end. Usually fruit beers taste fake and too artificially sweet but who would doubt founders to do a good job. Great fruit beer.
3.7 The beer pours well into the glasses with a light copper color with a slight reddish hue to it. The beer has a minimal amount of reddish white head but no lacing on the glass. The smell is a nicely balanced bitter and sweet smell to it. It has a mild malt scent on the front end but you get the sweet smell from a cherry syrup but not overly sweet. The taste is really good, you get a mild cherry sweetness but it gets sour as it lingers on, but not too much...very well balanced. The mouthfeel is good with a nice mild bitterness and the beer was well carbonated. Overall, this was a nice fruit ale...not disgustingly sweet and not overly sour, a very nice balanced beer.
2.8 Pours ruby red with very thin head into wine glass. Nose is strong cherries, cranberries. Taste is sweet strong cherries, not much else. A bit on the sweet side, one dimensional. It’s a cherry beer, but they could have tried for a few more layers. Very faint notes of berry bitterness in the finish. Medium to little carbonation. This bottle is a few months old so maybe fresher is better, but this left me unimpressed. A mediocre fruit beer.
4.8 Found this on a bottom shelf covered in dust. the smell was magnificent a cherry beer that smells like real cherries?? poured into a pint glass and shook the last bit of fluid around in the bottom of the glass with a splosh and splash to retrieve the settlement laid out on the bottom of the bottle. has this beer really been sitting on a shelf for a year? first taste and I remember the first time, biting into the warm buttery crust and the juicy pie filling gushing out into my beard crumbs falling onto my shirt like pie dandruff ugh enough about my "first" and back to the beer. plain and simple this aged on a bottom shelf beer is fantastic with a tart cherry flavor that taste like cherries and not cough medicine. smooth and refreshing yet not syrupy and gross like most in this category. pouring a cherry pie down your throat has never been more fun!
3.2 Backlog rating. This beer pours a small light pink head, opaque body and no lacing. The Aroma is sweet, tart cherries, and some malt. Ditto for the Taste. The Palate is lightly tingly and the beer is medium bodied. This beer is not overly cherry tasting. In fact, it needs more cherry taste! This is not one of my favorite beer styles, but this one I did enjoy.
3.4 Bottled. Smell cherries. Pour red with a small amount of reddish head. Taste cherries, malt and sweetness. carbonated well.
2.9 12oz bottle. Pours a hazy dark red color with a small foamy light pink head. Strong cherry aroma. Taste of tart cherries with a sweet syrupy finish. I love Founders, but not a fan of this.
3.7 A hazy, plum colored beer with a small pinkish head. The aroma is malty with lots of cherry. The flavor is pure tart cherry. Good body and quite tasty.
4.0 Light ruby pour with a white head. Aromas of fresh tart cherries. Very light and crisp. The cherry flavor is upfront but not too intense. Perfect balance of tart and sweet. Very refreshing, I could drink plenty of these during the summer. Solid brew.
3.6 Pours clear ruby, low head. Aroma is cherry and light alcohol. Taste is sweet but crisp, not too sweet, pretty good.
2.5 Translucent red amber with a pinkish white thin creamy head. Soft full body with medium carbonation. Aroma: unpleasant vomit-like funk, rotten cherries, and sweet malt. Taste: sweet malt and pleasant cherries. Odd funk is still fhere, but less dominant.
4.6 Fruity cherry flavor. Much better then I expected. Delicious! It is a pinkish cherry red color. It has a fresh, sweet, and crisp flavor.
3.7 Appearance- bright, hazy, ruby red Smell- dark cherries, wheat, slight spice Taste- sweet, cherries, pleasantly tart
3.3 12 oz bottle. dark pink color, small pinkish head. aroma of tart cherries. taste is tart cherry, definitely a bit of pucker to it. finish is more apple pie like.
3.2 Bottle. The our is a bright hazy reddish pink. The aroma bursts sweet with cherry. The taste is very light, and less cherry than the smell indicated. If you are into fruit beers, this is not a bad one. Personally I prefer to mix this with breakfast stout, which is a really solid brew.
3.3 March 31, 2013 - bottle from brewery. Dark reddish pour with limited head. Malty, grainy and tart cherry in aroma. Taste starts sweet and then becomes tart. The finish seemed a bit metallic. Light to medium bodied and some carbonation. Bottled 6/6/12.
3.2 Uploading old ratings that were missing comments. Heavy on the cherry and not much else going on.
2.5 355 ml bottle. Originally rated on 20100417. Pours dark red color with a pink head. Aroma of juice, fruits, some berries and sugar. Flavor of sugary fruits, juice, berries and some grass. Quite disturbing taste and weird altogether.
2.9 Ehhh, wishing for a Belgium Red (New Glarus) but this was a huge miss for me. Mainly tasted like watery cherry juice. Mostly like sugary maraschino not really cherries... Sad.
3.2 A rosey colored ale with a disappearing white head. The aroma is sugary cherry, and the body is poppy. The problem is that is not really balanced, it needs a bit more body to mellow the sweetness or bump up the tartness.
3.6 Pours a dark orange red with a foamy oat colored head. Aromas of light cherries, hay, slight and grass. Flavors of wow, real cherries, real cherry sugars, and hay/grassy. Slightly tart, medium sweet, quick finish, almost no aftertaste. Liked how nothing tasted artificial like only real cherrys were used! How a fruit beer should be, by using real ingredients!
3.5 Poured a deep red with a nice little white head. Aroma was very light with cherries. Not too much going on but have to say I am getting this in a bar after sitting for about 10 months. Taste is very simple with mild cherry flavor again. I guess a nice sessional fruit beer.
