Founders DankWood

What do you get when a big, bold imperial red IPA meets an oak bourbon barrel? A palate stunner that’ll send your senses spinning or, as we like to call it, Dankwood. Rich caramel notes emerge from the depths of the IPA, highlighting strong malt character while the bourbon barrel-aging develops the complexity. A dank, sticky and slightly sweet sipper, Dankwood is the perfect alchemy of wood and hops.

Solide.
3.7 Poured from 355mL (2018 release - bottled on 04/19/18). Cloudy yellow-ish brown with beige head. Mild wood, fruit hops with slight resin, caramel malt.
2.6 Bottle. Amber, with a nice two finger head. Danky, bitter taste. Not a very good beer.
3.5 Review based on the BJCP2015 guidelines (style 33B-Bourbon/21B-Red IPA). Bottle 35.5 cl - Batch unknown (BBF unknown - Bottled on 04.18.18). AROMA: medium-high oxidized malt and hops with a pleasant profile (caramel, dried hops, slight Maillard). medium-low to low background bourbon. APPEARANCE: amber color and just slightly hazy. medium beige head, creamy, with good retention for style. lace formation. TASTE: similar to the aroma with initial medium-high malty flavor, oxidized hops with a dried-grass-like profile and slight toffee. low bourbon background. medium to medium-high bitterness with a dry and slightly bitter finish. PALATE: medium to medium-high body with medium carbonation. OVERALL: an ok barrel aged double IPA with a bit more muted bourbon notes.
3.9 Bourbon, caramelo, resina, malta; acaba alcohólica con punto amargo. Rica
Finale molto amaro e dank.
4.3 Pours a dark amber with a large off white head. Aroma has some coffee, cinnamon, lime. Taste is some sweet coffee up front, leading to some cinnamon and clove in the middle, quickly growing in bitterness into a long lingering nice bitter sweet finish, some slight warmth from the alcohol. On the heavier side of medium bodied. Really fantastic!
4.5 OHHHH SHHHHEEEEEETTT! This is tasty! Pours dark reddish brown with a moderate off white foam. Aroma is sweet bourbon, sweet malt with a touch of metallic and caramel. Taste is big bourbon sweetness, Caramel and toffee sweet malts. Pine hops. I wish I had more access to this. Seems like I say this a lot with Founders stuff.
3.7 Draught @ Mig & Ølsnedkeren. Pours dark amber with a small creamy head, lacings. Aroma of sweet malt, caramel, bread, light coconut, mild bourbon. Flavor is sweet, rather bitter, malty, caramel, bread, little coconut, wood, bourbon, alcohol. Medium body, average carbonation, sweet bitter finish with some warming alcohol. 040120
Dulzor maltoso medio, amargor resinoso alto y regusto largo. Textura acuosa, cuerpo medio y carbonatación medio-baja.
4.1 Poured from 12 oz. bottle. Murky, cinnamon brown with a 3-finger ivory head and good lacing. Upon opening the bottle, I was hit by a stunning aroma of toffee, vanilla and oak. That intense aroma blast subsided and I experienced an aroma of dried dark fruit, toffee, vanilla, oak, caramel and a little whiff of cooked peaches. Taste of sweet stone fruit, dark fruit, booze, toffee, a surprisingly strong dose of oak, vanilla and grapefruit with an aftertaste of bittersweet cocoa. Full/medium body and medium carbonation with a slightly powdery mouthfeel. A nice beer to sip with dessert.
Proefglas
3.6 Draft, taster. @"Singulario", Compostela. 20/12/2019. [#3.152 Global - #417 United States - #7 Founders Brewing Company] Hazed ruby colour with a small off-white head. Aroma is dried dark fruits, toffee and caramellized malts. Taste follows the nose with a soft vanilla and oak finish. Next one please!
3.2 14/20 one of Fouders' intensely oaky beers, that tastes nothing like beer, that are made for sipping. Plenty of booze and vanilla but probably a bit too much oak
4.1 Bottle: Hazy dark amber cor, creamy brownish head. Aroma is full aromatic, caramel, nuts, toffee, wood, barrels, whiskey, chocolate, alcohol. Flavor is full bodied, very malty, roasty, cacao, dark chocolate, toffee, molasses, whiskey. Ends roasty bitter, alcoholic. Nice one.
3.9 Bottled on April 11, 2018, reviewed on November 9, 2019. Nice amber color. Candied date, caramel, oak barrel, and grass. Bourbon barrel, hoppiness, caramel flavors. Oily mouthfeel.
3.8 Bottled 0,355L. Dark amber/brown color, dirty and unclear aspect, moderate bubbly with lively and creamy beige head of long duration. Intence malty, woody and alcoholic aromas, notes of dark/red malt, oak, cask, resin, moisted cortex, sweet aged fruit and alcohol. Intence fraught and warm palate, oily texture, soft carbonation, rich bouque with rumors of wood, resi, oak, aged and moisted fruit, dark malt, long sweet/spiced and alcoholic final.
4.0 355ml bottle purchased @ De Bierkoning - Amsterdam. Pours a cloudy amber color forming a medium creamy and solid tan head. Medium persistence that forms lots of soapy lingering lacings in the glass. Strong notes of caramel and resin the nose. Bourbon, wood and vanilla. Slightly sweet upfront taste. Strong notes of caramel malts, grapefruit, resin and citrus hops. Strong notes of oak and bourbon too. Bittersweet balance. Strong and persistent hops bitterness. Resin, grass and zest hops profile. Full body. Medium to low carbonation. Caramel malts, oak, resin and bourbon in the aftertaste. Good drinkability. Something between a Red IPA with Strong Ale. Founders quality.
Cała flota prażonego słonecznika, chmiele, cytrusy podbite wanilią i beczką. Piwo wytrawne i mocno goryczkowe. Klasa!
3.6 Copper brown with a medium head. Aroma is caramel, candy, bourbon and vanilla. Tste is sweet with notes of wood (barrol), toffee, bourbon and som sweet fruit.
4.1 35,5 cl. bottle @ home, bought @ Mitra Wijk bij Duurstede. Hazy dark red to brown with an off-white head. Malty caramel aroma with some red fruit, bourbon, vanilla and oak. Bitter and sweet battle to be the dominant taste but it keeps flipping. Finish is woody bourbon: long and satisfying. Some alcohol warmth but it's very rounded and gentle. Great to drink a barrel aged beer which isn't an imperial stout or porter.
3.9 12 ounce, bottled 4-10 - 18. ABV 12.21 % Pours a dark red-brown with medium carbonated tan head. Aroma of malty ale with whiskey, sight citrus with apricot. Sweet at first with gradual biscuit and molasses. Semi dry finish that is slightly bitter. Alcohol never punches you, very smooth.
2.6 Molasses aroma. Hazy with a dark copper body that lightened somewhat when settled. Cream full head. Woody front with a citrus breath. Didn't taste like a strong ale.
4.3 Bottle 12 fl oz. 2018 release. Dark red with an offwhite foamy head. Bourbon nose, and that's mainly all that the aroma reveals. Extreme rich taste, what a mouthful this beer is. Toffee, slight bitterness accomplished with a nice warm bourbon taste makes this an absolute great beer. Long finish.
3.2 Bottle. Rich bourbon and caramel aroma. Opaque brown in colour with a medium sized light brown head. Bitter hop flavour with strong notes of bourbon, toffee and coconut. Medium bodied with a slick texture. Bitter finish with plenty of alcohol warming.
3.1 Bottle shared at a tasting at Max's place. Hazy amber. Bourbon, vanilla, caramel, stale hops, sweet, bitter finish, some alcohol.
