Founders Lizard of Koz

Founders Lizard of Koz

This one is near and dear to our hearts. Brewmaster Jeremy Kosmicki wanted to make the birthday of his little sister, Liz, a special one. So he did what he does best and brewed a stout using a few of her favorite ingredients: fresh Michigan blueberries, rich chocolate and vanilla aged in bourbon barrels to round out those beautiful flavors. Liz was floored and we think you will be too.

4.2 75 cl fles. Medium koolzuurprikkel. Afdronk: zoetzuur, bessen. Dit is gewoon leuk.

4.1 Bottle at Hundholmen, Bodø. Pours a dark brown to black colour with a beige head. Lots of chocolate cake in the aroma along with blueberry muffins, fruity candy, vanilla, bourbon, licorice, black currants and some coffee. Chocolate also in a sweet flavour with fruity confectionery and liqueur. Berries in the background and coffee in the end. Has a soft and silky mouth feel, full-bodied and a light bitterness. Incredibly tasteful and aromatic. Filled with chocolate, fruits and berries. A real dessert!
4.3 75cl. fles. Helder donker bruin kleur, fijne romige bruine schuimkraag. De geur is whisky en vanille. Smaak is zoet, blauwe bes, whisky, vanille en chocolade. Vol lichaam, weinig koolzuur.
4.0 This is an amazing Bourbon barrel imperial stout. Blueberries, vanilla and chocolate. What could be wrong with that? The 66 rating is nonsense
3.6 Pours black with a one finger, tan head. Aroma is roast, bourbon and blueberry. Taste is brown sugar and strong blueberry, moving to roast and light coffee notes. Finish is bourbon with some lingering blueberry sweetness. A good imperial stout.
5.0 Amazing! My wife pulled this out of the cellar for her birthday. First hits you with the chocolate bourbon notes, then the blueberries come through and the vanilla on the finish. Impressive...
4.0 Draft @ Delirium, Köln. Dark black colour, brown foam. Roasty, bourbon, lots of blueberries. Sweet, fruity and bourbony. Nice beer!
3.6 Pours a pitch black coloration with a medium, creamy head. Smell is dominated by milk chocolate, with additional notes of blueberry and vanilla. Taste is a lot more dominated by blueberry, but with a strong milk chocolate note as well as a caramel malt backbone and additional notes of vanilla, toffee and dark/red fruits. Very little bourbon presence, perhaps a hint of charred oak. Finishes quite sweet, with almost no discernible bitteress, and some blueberry and vanilla lingering in the aftertaste. Rich, creamy mouthfeel with a medium/rich body and light/medium carbonation. The balance is just way off here, unfortunately, this just being too sweet with very little bitterness or roasted malt for balance. There actually is a slight tartness to the blueberry, but that doesn't integrate well into the overall flavor profile either. It's an interesting but flawed brew that I'm glad to have tried, but probably wouldn't have again.
3.3 At Eric’s. Medium bodied and decently sweet. Lots of berry flavor. Some roasty malt in the back ground.
4.4 An american, black Imperial Stout with berries, chocolate and vanilla. Aroma is chocolate, berries, vanilla, coffee. Taste is light bitter and sweet.

4.0 Potężny aromat kawy, gorzkiej czekolady, kwaśnych owoców leśnych i nut beczkowych. W smaku wanilia, czekolada, a całość spaja kwaskowatość od jagód. Deser w płynie.
3.8 Taster at THBS. Pours a close to black, tan head. Lots of sweet berries, vanilla, cherries, candy syrup, milk chocolate.
3.6 Keg at MBCC 2018 Blue (session Zwei), 11/05/18. Black with a well presented tan covering. Nose is mellow roast, dark berry fruits, chocolate, light spice. Taste comprises chocolate melt, mellow bourbon rip, molasses, brown sugars, berry fruits. Full bodied, fine carboanation, semi drying close with a light boost. Ok impy stout but no Ww offered here.
3.8 Pours a very dark brown, with a tan head. Aroma of vanilla and blueberries. Taste of blueberries, chocolate and vanilla. Very smooth and drinkable, thumbs way up!
3.5 From tap at Principia Tasting Room, Mexico D.F. Nearly black mahogany color with a tan colored head. Very intense aroma with lots of chocolate, lots of hazelnut, toffee, fudge, vanilla, marshmallows. Very obtrusive smell, borderline to being artificial. Medium-full body with a medium to medium-heavy sweetness, a light bitterness and a light sourness. Flavor of sweet cherries, some notes of berries, lots of chocolate, some coffee, a lot of sticky sugar and vanilla. Finishes with a light roasty bitterness, some residual sweetness, some coffee. Overall with nice flavors but I really did not like the balance and the sourness, a tad to extreme. Aroma: 8 Appearance: 4 Taste: 7 Palate: 4 Overall: 12
3.8 11th May 2018 MBCC 2018. Blue. Blood and Fists session. Keg. Opaque dark brown beer, small pale tan head. Smooth and semi dry palate, decent fine carbonation. Smooth and tangy dark malts. Good chocolate. Intensely fruity. Little spice. Pretty drinkable.
4.0 Sample at MBCC. Pours black, tan head. Aroma of Choco, bourbon. Taste of choco, bourbon, berries.
4.2 Dark brown colour with beige head on top. Aroma has sweet blueberries, roasted malts, dark chocolate, Bourbon barrel, wooden notes and more berries. Taste is sweet with blueberries, sour red berries, Bourbon booze and barrel, after warming up there comes dark chocolate with more roasted malts. Full body and medium carbonation. A bit too much blueberries, and too little stout.

4.1 On tap at Harry’s Jyväskylä pouring black color, unsurprisingly. Aroma of a bit roasted malts, vanilla, chocolate, caramel, blueberry and berries, slight tartness. Medium body, sweet taste with not much bitterness, but berries are quite present. Nice and a bit different Imperial Stout.
4.1 Draught @ MBCC 2018. Pours black with a creamy light brown head. Aroma of roasted malt, caramel, dark chocolate, vanilla, berries, blueberry, light bourbon. Flavor is sweet, rich malt, caramel, chocolate, berries, vanilla, bourbon, alcohol. Medium to full body, soft carbonation, sweet finish with warming alcohol. 130518
4.1 A deep dark imperial stout with a thin brown head. In aroma, sweet fruity chocolate malt with light blueberry jam, light vanilla, alcohol warmth, very nice and smooth. In mouth, a nice sweet chocolate malt with loads of blueberry jam, light acidity, alcohol warmth, very nice and complex. Bottle at Dark Lord Day 2018. 8-4-8-4-17
4.1 Sample at MBCC2018 Blue. Black with tanned head. Roasted malt, coffee, chocolate, vanilla and light sour blueberries.
4.8 Pours with an okay brown head that stays quite long. Color is (certainly) pitch black. Sweet and rich aroma has malt, chocolate, vanilla, alcohol, just a hint of marsipan and coconut. Very dessert-like aroma, like a fine chocolate cake. Smooth hot chocolate -like, creamy mouth feel. Taste spreads immediately (no initial taste): a lot of chocolate-fruity tastes. Like slightly sour, juicy fruits (strawberry, grapefruit, orange) dipped into dark chocolate. Some marsipan comes later and is definitely felt in the nose. Lingonberry notes in body. becomes dryer while time passes. Long after taste is dryish, but sweet and slightly oily and has a sort of "sweet lime" vibe to it. A surprisingly complex, but familiar tasting beer. Not much to complain about really. Varied and excellent.
4.2 Tap @ MBCC. Czarne, nieprzejrzyste. Piana ciemno kremowa. Zwarta. tworząca jedną warstwę struktura. W smaku i aromacie lody waniliowo-czekoladowe. Perfekcyjnie zbalansowane piwo. Masa wanilli, karmlelu, kokosów, wafelków śmietankowych, lodów borówkowych. Mega pełne w smaku - borówka amerykańska dodaje lekkiej cierpkości i równoważy słodycz wanilii i bourbonu.
