Franziskaner Hefe-Weissbier Alkoholfrei
The Bavarian Purity Law came into effect in 1516. When Bavaria joined Prussia to become part of the German Empire (Deutsches Reich) in the unification of 1871, one of the conditions was that the Bavarian beer purity law apply to all of Germany. Since then it was known as the GERMAN purity Law (Deutsches Reinheitsgebot).
Incidentally, the Purity Law stated that only 3 ingredients may be used for beer: Water, Hops & Barley. Weissbeer also has Yeast added, so is in fact in violation of this law.
