Freigeist Abraxxxas

Freigeist Abraxxxas

Like Freigeist Abraxas, it’s also inspired by the style Lichtenhainer, but this version is stronger (6% alc.) and contains more lactic sourness. Brewed until 2012 at Braustelle (375 ml bottle), from 2013 at Göller in Zeil (330 ml bottle).

3.0 $5.39 pint+ bottle from Wine Warehouse. Pours golden with an inch of off-white head. Aroma is tart stone fruit, wheat... no smoke. Flavor is tart wheat, light smoked malt, light paper. The smoke is OK, but the other flavor are meh.
3.3 Bottle pour. Funky smoke aroma. First sip is very smoke and campfire forward with a hint of sweetness underneath. The smoke overpowers most flavors but the pear and tartness balance it out. Very light in color almost like a champagne.
3.4 On tap at Arrogant Sour Festival 2018. Hazy orange, medium white head. Bit smokey, malty, some light fruit, light sourness. Medium bodied.
2.6 From an old bottle that I think was pretty old when I got it and then sat in my fridge for a year. Pours flat slightly cloudy brown. Flavor is malty and slightly tart with a lightly smoked character. Not getting much sourness here. Light bodied. Clean finish. Very flat so I suspect this bottle might have been compromised.
3.4 On tap. @Cimmeria, Oviedo 15/02/2018 Color ambarino corona de espuma blanca, aromas ahumados, cereal, sabor ahumado, con notas acidas cuerpo ligero.
3.4 Pours a hazy golden yellow from the can with thin bubbly white head that leaves moderate lace. Aroma of mild lactic acidity and slight pickle acetic acid, with musty earth and mild smoke behind. Taste follows, smoke on the front, then the sour takes over but falls quick to reveal a lingering smoke. Odd, decent.
3.7 500 ml bottle. Amber gold color. Sweet, smoky wheat malt nose. Tart, smoky wheat malt flavor. Notes of lemon and brewed tea. Earthy, citrus hops in finish. Interesting!
3.6 0,5l bottle from Damian Bottle Shop, Bratislava, Pours deep hazy bright golden to amber liquid, small frothy white head, fell down quickly, Aroma: light to medium lactic sour, light smoked, light to medium caramel, candy, flowers, perhaps honey, later on some banana wheat notes appears, Taste: medium sweet, light bitter, light to medium sour, light smoked and light to medium lactic acid, caramel, honey, sweetish candy like, wheat malty, Palate: medium body, soft to flat carbonation, slick mouthfeel, long light lactic acid and caramel aftertaste, Overall: fairly good enough, could be more lactic sour, more bold, but still enjoyed.
3.5 (Bottle) Hazy golden orange colour with foamy, white head. Malty, slightly sourish nose with notes of peaches, white bread, a touch of salt and a gentle smoke aroma. Malty, slightly tart taste with peaches, lemon, white bread, hay and a finish with a gentle smoke character and low bitterness. Medium body, dry. The combination of the light lactic tartness and the gentle smoke character is really interesting and makes the beer very refreshing. Nice one.
3.3 Very cloudy rust-red orange with a normal two-finger head. Smell is tart, salty. Taste is very smooth with no sourness at all. A bit like salted caramal with all the sweetness removed, not sure how else to explain it.
3.4 Aroma: smoked ham, light acid notes. Appearance: hazy golden color and thin white head. Taste: intensive smoked notes, light sourness, thin malty backbone, bonfire, semi-dry. Palate: low body and high carbonation, smoky finish. Overall: really nice lichtenhainer, should be probably a little bit more sour.
3.6 500ml bottle from LCBO. 6%alc./vol. Pours a deep gold colour with one finger of head. Aromas of smoked sausage and yeast. Taste matches the aroma with some sour notes. I guess it would be nice to have it with some german sausage and saurkraut at Oktoberfest...but other than that it’s nothing spectacular Reviewed on 10/10/2016
3.8 Such a strange beer. A medium smoke to the aroma. The flavor is both sour and smoky, a strange combination that is both enjoyable and off-putting. Just weird.
3.4 BOTTLE 50 CL. Dark golden with lots of floaties, ivory head. Gentle maltiness, a bit fruity, nice moderate smokiness. Similar taste - round malts, slight smoky spicy. Balanced and tame.
3.4 Bottle shared thanks to sjogro. Hazy golden with small white head. Some smoke, light malts, soft lactic notes, soft dried fruits, campfire, light ham. Nice balance between smoke, fruits, malt and soft lactic notes with coresponding light sweetness and sourness. Just medium bodied. Quite good for a smoked beer.
3.4 Bottle shared at samenscholing. Hazy golden with white head. Dry grains, light smoked sausage. Light sour, bitter and sweet, vaguely salty. Medium body and sandy feel, or maybe that’s my tongue after Maakun’s homebrew cider, quite alright.
3.6 Hazy peach to golden pour with a two finger, soapy, off white head. Aroma is smoke, crabapple, lactic tartness, hints of earthy leaves new moss, grass and spicy hops. Flavor is smoke, bread, sweet wheat, a faint hint of bubblegum, light perfumey, citrus and mineral notes. Medium body, slick to oily feel, light, blanketing, sharp carbonation, slick finish. Pretty tasty, I believe it’s the first I’ve had of the Lichtenhainer style, but it’s intrigued me enough to seek it out.
3.8 Visual: Pours clear golden orange with a lasting 1mm micro head, fast steady singular streams. Nose: soft smoky burnt rubber (lvl-4)-pungency Attack: crisp, bright sour-light smoky impression Mid-palate: light tingly-fizzy-burpy, (lvl-4-sweetness), tangy-sour lemony, barley-wheat malt Finish: tart wheat malt palate roughish, light smoky rubber exhale, residual grainy barley malt Summary: A very interesting revived beer style with loads of texture and an appetizing flavour profile. I like that the smokiness is clean and doesn’t dominate the entire palate.
2.9 Is way to much of a smokey flavor to it. Not as sour as I was hoping for but drinkable.
3.7 Wonderful aromas of meat, smoke and ash. Oh fabulous blend of taste of smokiness and malty. OK bitterness which fills the upper part of the mouth a weak moment. Even some citrus comes to the end. But still a really good beer. Follow me @ Kung av öl @ Facebook for more pictures and ratings.
4.0 From boxbeers; pours golden only slightly hazy with a big white head; aroma is fruity slightly acidic with woody and smokey notes, very special aroma, the smoke is very well integrated; taste is fruity, slightly tart, wheat malt, very soft acidic, smoke and wood in the finish, low bitterness, some spice; thick creamy mouthfeel with average carbonation
4.3 Bottle at the Free Trade Inn. Pours light golden with a small head round the edge of the glass. The nose is smoked bacon and baked beans. Taste is a little creamy in the mouth with a lovely smoked flavour. Really delicious.
4.2 Cloudy/murky golden liquid. Thin lid of off-white bubbles spread over the large surface of my Weihenstephan bowl. Aromas of wheat, blue cheese and light smoke. Flavors are light, but yet well defined. Slightly sour wheat, bit of smoke, hints of dextrose/lactose. Finish has a bit of oak and brined cheese. This begs to be paired with a hearty salad. 12/12

3.7 0.5 l bottle from ’Rudat’, bottled in 2015. Clear, golden amber with a thin, foamy, slowly diminishing, white head. Very smoky, a bit fruity and minimally aroma of smoked ham, campfire, wheat and a touch of apples. Sweetish, very smoky and minimally sourish taste of smoked ham, campfire, some wheat, apples and a touch of rhubarb, followed by a medium long, slightly tart and smoky finish. Medium body, smooth, slightly creamy and a bit effervescent mouthfeel, soft to average carbonation. Tasty, extremely well-balanced, love the subtle tartness in this. More persuading than the apple and pear version to me.
3.7 Bottle. Clear golden body, medium white dense head with good retention, poor lacing. Aroma of smoked mackerel, salt, leather and grains. Taste of hot smoked fish, grains, green grapes and apples. Lovely.
3.4 Draft 8 oz pour at No Anchor. Pours a shiny golden orange with a full cover foam head. How this isn’t classified as a smoked beer, I couldn’t tell you. It’s as obvious as it gets, as far a I’m concerned. Smoked flavor from beginning to end. Hard to pick up any other detail. Maybe a salted background. Not a bad beer, but as a gose? I have no idea what’s going on here.
3.7 Tap at La Fine Mousse, 18th October 16. Pours straw coloured some haze. Aroma is sour and smoke. Taste is light, slightly sour, great smokey lemon sherbet, slight acidic. Really nice and different.
3.1 1 pint bottle. Subdued smoky aroma. Light honey amber color with no head to speak of but plenty of effervescence. Initial smoky taste (which lingers) gives way to a delicate salty/sour finish. Interesting.
3.2 50 cl. bottle. Hazy orange coloyr with a white head. Aroma and flavour of yeast, fruit, smoke, citric and sourness.
