2.9 Draught at Steel Toad, Vancouver, as Freigeist Geisterzug Gose; 250ml Light amber, strange color for a Gose, cloudy but bright, with compact head. The aroma is mild, bread and spruce. Good body strength, it’s lowly carbonated and it has some residual sweetness, very low lactic character or acidity, moderate salt, and a trace of spruce. A bit soapy and minty. It’s clean and it’s not a bad beer, but it removes the good expected characteristics of a Gose.
3.7 Pours gold with a white head. Nose of tart fruit Medium body. Flavor is fruit, some salt, and citrus. Good.
2.9 Bottle from Boxbeers as Geisterzug Spruced. Clear golden with a small white head. Aroma is sweet, malty, light fruity, light spicy and herbal. Flavor is medium sweet and light bitter. Sweet and light salty finish. 310816
2.4 Aroma is salt, metallic, some wheat I guess, smells like a bad lager. Appearance is darker golden, white head, somewhat hazy. Taste is wheat, metallic, then salt, not much on spruce, pretty plain and boring. Mouthfeel is light to medium body, light carbonation, not crisp initially bit it gets there I guess, with a strong Budwesier aftertaste. Overall, this one is incredibly disappointing.
3.5 Bottle - Hazy golden colour, medium whithe head, good retention. Bready aromas with dough and lemon juice. Taste is mildly salty with some crushed grains, some bread and lemon and orange juice. Light body, average carbonation, smooth texture dry and tart finish. Nice refreshing beer, but not my favourite.
4.3 Pours hazy golden with a small white head. Smells of wheat and tartness. Taste is tart, subtle sweetness, and hints of fruit. Light-bodied with a wet texture and average mouth-carbonation, Freigeist Geisterzug Traditional Gose finishes with a subtle tartness.
1.4 OK. Let’s discuss this beer by the label. ’Spruced Traditional Gose Beer’. SPRUCED: Could hardly taste the spruce. There were earth notes, some sort of weird lactic thing like Camembert rind, and a lot of sweetness. TRADITIONAL: Not even. No carbonation. As for the rest, see below. GOSE: Checking RB’s own definition, this beer failed on "salt", "tart", and "strong wheat character". Depending on how you feel about 5%, it might fail on "low-alcohol". BEER: No carbonation. No head. No essential...beeriness. And I’ve drank a lot of funky beers in my time. This thing was as lifeless as a vampire convention. In short...utter fail. There is a fine line between "experimental" and "utter disaster". This beer crossed it, then for good measure crossed it twice and then peed on it.
3.7 Draught @ Bestie. Very cloudy. Yeasty nose with subtle fruitiness and a dash of pepper and limey fruits. Salty up front, mellow wheaty tartness. Nice balance, light refreshing and complex.
2.9 Bottle@guren. One finger foam. Golden near clear. Butterscotch Herbal fruity notes. Dry slight sweet bitter. Some mouthfeel. The Spruce are well hidden.
3.5 Pours hazy pale yellow with frothy white head. Aroma of pine, lemon, light grain. Taste is light sour, citric, reminds a bit a witbier. Light body, refreshing.
3.8 Bottle: The aroma consists of light-moderate wheat bread, coriander, spruce, light citrus, and faint lime. It pours a cloudy dull golden-orange with a rocky off-white head that has great retention. The flavor starts with light citrus and wheat. The finish has light-moderate spruce, light coriander, and a decent amount of lime. It’s light bodied with light carbonation.
3.5 500ml bottle from boxbeers.com Orange colour with a big white head. Fruits, mild saltiness, spices, citric. Refreshing!
2.8 (Bottle) Hazy yellow colour with frothy, white head. Malty, fruity nose with notes of white bread, grass, hay, wheat-flour dough, lemon peel and a touch of spruce/pine needles. Malty, fruity taste with white bread, lemonade, lemon peel, hay, coriander, a touch of salt (emerging after a while) and a dry finish with a slight sourness and low bitterness. Medium body, quite dry. Refreshing and tasty, but quite uncomplicated. Enjoyable.
3.5 Bottle. Light yellow-golden colored and hazy with a medium white rocky head. Fruity in the nose, grapes and citrus, a note of champagne and sour drops. Taste is surprisingly light, with just low sourness and only a salty hint. However, well balanced overall, with a light sweetness in the finish and for me more drinkable than other more sour Gose. Light to medium bodied and highly carbonated makes it refreshing and crisp beer with a first sparkling later smooth mouthfeel. Grape, citrus and champagne notes are in the flavor as well and a nice lemon note comes through. There is also a light spicy floral touch. Leaves a good, light fruity dry aftertaste.
3.4 appearance: cloudy gold, short fizzy white head quickly fading. aroma: crackery, light funk, saltwater, lemongrass, hint of mint from the spruce. taste: very slight tartness, some salty funk, lemon and lime, hint of pear. finish: clean and short, with lingering fruity sweetness and mint . notes: I like spruce in a gose, keeps things fresh-feeling and pairs nicely with the funk. Would have liked a tad more tartness to this one, but it was still nice. Vertical with Zoltan, including the rhubarb and quince versions. Knightly Spirits, Disney 2016.
3.7 Lemon-lime nose. Clear amber, thick sticky head, crusty bits on the opening of the bottle. Lemon-lime, not very tart, fairly neutral, spruce. Medium body, soft carbonation. I had a berliner weisse with rye recently that was delicious. This is similar, but less tart. I think it works better without the neutralizing salt, but this was good.
2.8 Bottled 500ml. -Courtesy of and shared with Domagoj, thanks! Clear golden coloured, small white head, mild spicy nose. Sweetish malty, light spicy, notes of lemon and salt with touch of something (probably spruce needles) in the finish. No real Gose character.
3.5 Semmi hab, narancsba hajló borostyán szín. Illata halovány, malátás, enyhén korianderes. Savanyú, korianderes, sós és valami meghatározhatatlan (gondolom a fenyőtű) ízkomponens, közepes szénsavval. Finom, közepesen testes, igazi frissítő.
3.1 Shared 16.9 oz. bottle. As Freigeist Geisterzug Spruced Traditional Gose. Hazy straw color with a white head. Aroma is floral, wheat, fruity. Taste is wheat, fruit (perhaps sour apple), light spruce. Finish is slightly tart and mildly salty. Decent.
3.2 Aroma: salty gose aroma; a bit wheaty but not getting spruce; Appearance: hazy golden pour with thin white head that dissipates immediately; Taste: pretty standard gose; fairly refreshing but nothing special; Palate: light bodied with salty finish; Overall: just fine. Probably wouldn’t buy again, but would drink again.
3.1 Bottle. Aroma is heavy wheat, lemon juice and very mild spruce. Tastes the same. Medium to full body. Very little salt and spruce. Not bad but kinda boring.
4.4 Clear brilliant deep golden with a thin white cap. Amazing floral aroma with a load of orange rind and dry Belgian funk. Dry and earthy biscuity flavor with a nice floral funkiness underneath, some coriander, and a little dusty and sharp. Really intricate, delicate yet bold, and I can’t get over this floral/coriander undertone. It’s great.
3.9 bottle. Lightly hazy golden with one finger head. Sometimes I really struggle to describe a beer, and this would definitely be one of those times. Fairly light body. A bit of tartness, but not enough to be a considered a sour. If I didn’t know there was spruce here, I’d really be confused. It’s a strange (but enjoyable) flavor, especially within the context of the overall beer. I enjoyed this -- very unique.
2.9 Bottle from Whole Foods in Sugar Land. Hazy yellow with a small white head. Mild aroma of wheat with maybe a hint of spruce. Taste is slightly brined grain with a faint touch of sourness. Light bodied, lightly carbonated, and slick. Ok, but really not a whole lot going on.
3.4 Bottle. Quite pronounced spruce notes, perfumy coriander, subtle hints of citrus zest. Salty already in the aroma, like the air at sea. Rather herbal as well. Quite salty taste, which goes surprisingly well with the spruce. Herbal bitterness, quite strong for the style. Very interesting, tasty beer.
3.2 Pint bottle. A large white fluffy head. The beer is clear golden. This beer has fairly tart fruit. Some pine, light salt, and soft malts. Herbal notes. Could almost be a Berliner Weiss.
3.5 Keg at the hanging bat.. Hazy amber... Soft sweet fruits.. Soft sweet fruits... Zezty orange nose.. Dry zezty fruits fruits.. Soft fizz.. Dry bitter herbal fruits
3.7 Hazy peach color with off-white head. Aroma has wheat, yeast esters and spruce. Also a bit of orange, similar to a witbier. Taste is also closer to a witbier than a gose. No tartness at all, just wheat, cloves, spruce and some herbal bitterness. Body is on the light side but also really smooth. Not bad but it doesn’t taste like a gose, more like a resiny witbier.
3.6 Keg at the hanging bat. Pours murky orange, nose is funky, spruce, toffee, taste is salty and smoky up front, light pine in the finish.
