3.2 Bottle from Lagerlager - clear brown color, off-white head. malty, syrupy sweet, grainy, hoppy. well balanced. dark malts. goes down very well for the alcohol. still, in no way comparable to f.e. Uerige Doppel-Sticke.
3.8 Hazy dark brown with average head. Malty, roasted, sweetish, fruity, raisins, prunes, soft carbonation.
3.7 0.5 l bottle from 'Britische Biere', I believe it's 2015 vintage. Clear, deep ruby with a medium large, frothy, stable, beige head. Sweetish, intensely malty and quite fruity aroma of molasses, raisins, prunes, figs and a touch of resin. Very sweet, malty, quite fruity taste of raisins, prunes, figs, molasses and some burnt sugar (don't get any smoke which is mentioned on the label), followed by a medium long, moderately bitter, slightly boozy finish. Medium to full body, almost oily mouthfeel, very soft carbonation. Rich and heavy, very pleasant beer for the cold days.
4.0 I do not think it is the right alt beer, it is something totally different in style, it is like an ale, stout-ish, something between barley-wine and a little bit lager, but was hoppy a lot. No compare to other Alt beers I ve tried. But if we forget it is alt beer, the beer is good, with aroma, sweetness, you cannot feel the alco, it is malty, hoppy... smells of quality.
3.5 Hazy , brown color . Medium sized, off-white head. Aroma of caramel malt and dried fruits. Sweet and malty. Dried fruits in aftertaste.
3.5 Aroma is caramel, molasses, dark fruit, slight booze, it smells great. Appearance is dark brown, hazy, light brown head. Taste is robust, dark fruit, caramel, booze, earthy hops, roasted malt, molasses, strong but good. Mouthfeel is medium body, light carbonation, a pretty bitter but sweet aftertaste. Overall, this is pretty good.
3.7 Dense chestnut color with a moderate, but stable sized dark beige head. Big sweet malt scents. Some mild resin and smoke. A bit meaty. Flavors start with dark caramel, and a bit of wintergreen. Smooth and thick, with enough zip to keep it lively. Finish is rather dry, yet the linger has some nutty and toasted malt. Nice Alt. 12/12
4.1 From bottle. Beer pours dark brown, with little cappuccino foam. Aroma is inviting, with cherries and fruits under spirit. Body is medium. Taste is wonderfully balanced between sweet and bitter, going from the former to the latter. More feelings, like some chocolate and licorice. A great beer! -- rated with beerbasher/winphone
3.3 Bottle @ home, aged 2 years. Pours a brown liquid with a medium beige head. Sweet aroma with dark dried fruits, toffee, caramel, biscuits, plums, slighly vinous raisins and herbs. Taste is smooth and medium to big bodied with average duration. Flavor is vinous with plums, biscuits, brown sugar, herbs, bitter chocolate, anise.bitter finish.
3.4 16.9oz bottle - nose is nutty, caramel and a little spice bread. Tastes like old old ale. Tasty but just a tad off. Can’t find a date to check. Sweet.
3.4 (Bottle) Dark reddish brown colour with frothy, beige head. Malty, slightly toasty nose with crisp-bread, burnt sugar, treacle toffee, a touch of rye and caramel. Malty, roasted taste with notes of burnt sugar, caramel, treacle-toffee, some coffee, crisp-bread, toast and a gentle spicy bitterness in the finish. More than medium body, with a touch of sweetness. Possibly and bit hard and aggressive, but interesting and quite tasty. Quite nice.
4.2 Bottiglia, una cannonata di malto mitigato da altrettanto luppolo...da non sottovalutare
3.8 500 ml bottle. Hazy brown color with a small tan cap. Tangy toasted malt nose. Interesting funky flavor. Notes of burnt toast, Worcestershire sauce, microwaved raisins and cardamom. Bitter hops in finish. Nuff said.
3.4 37.5cl bottle from koelschtrinker! Pours hazy dark red brown colour with a huge good lasting beige head. Aroma of wood, dark malt and alcohol. Taste of dry fruits, red berries, wood, caramel, interesting!
3.6 Bottle. Poursa murky brown color with a small head. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee and bit of fruity sweetness. Taste of roasted malt, coffee, bit of chocolate and dark fruit. Has a coffee bitterness that lingers a bit. Medium body, has a bit of a gritty texture but that just ands to the character of this beer. Interesting beer worth checking out.
3.8 500 ml. Dark brown-black with a lasting creamy disc of foam. Smells of chocolate, caramel, green herb and a touch of hickory smoke. Flavors of cafe mocha and toffee are bittered on the back end by ash, cardboard and hints of citrus. Medium body has medium carbonation and a good balance.
3.4 Pour is a dark muddy river water brown with a small tan head. Aroma is full of dark fruit some sticky caramel malt and a bit of smoke. Flavor is a brown sugar sweetness to start then comes a thick and syrupy malt that gives off a decent toffee and dark fruit. Finish is has a bit of and black licorice. This was a sold alt beer although it’s a bit sweet for me. Plenty of heavy, thick and chewy malt give this beer plenty of flavor.
3.5 Bottle. Deep brown in color with a light tan, small head. Aroma was light toffe, with very slight hoppy notes. Taste is very similar. Smoky caramel upfront with a light bitter finish.
3.9 Bottle. Pours dark brown with off white head. Nose is bread crust and caramel. Taste adds some smokey bitterness.
3.8 Bottle share at Evernote in Redwood City, CA. Malt bomb to hoppy twang. Eine der erfreulichen Seiten dieses Berufs ist...
3.3 Alaskan makes the only altbier I’ve tried before this one. This is much, much better although I’ve found I don’t love the style. Sampled at World of Beer Fest, Milwaukee.
2.2 Bottle. Murky shit (as my friend ChrisO would say) with an offwhite head. . Malty bready grassy aroma. Caramell malty bready flavour. Really a bad beer...
3.6 Bottle at Bar Hop. Drink at room temperature! when malt and spice drink well, with noble hops or English hops in the finish.Dark brown.
3.2 Tämligen traditionell i stilen, en ton av sötma och en aning bränt. Mörkt brun och en aning grumlig. Funkar.
3.5 Bottle - 500ml. Hazy dark copper body with a thin off-white foamy head. Nice malty aroma with fruity, brown sugar, and vanilla hints. Its robust malty/hoppy taste carries oaky notes. Ends with a long bittersweet finish. Interesting.
3.2 Bottle from McTapps, thanks Sabine. Pours mud brown with a little sediment. Supposedly a hoppy altbier, typical boozy alt no additional hop kick. It’s Ok but nothing special.
4.0 Marrom escura, quase opaca. Espuma abundante de curta duração. Aroma de ameixas e lúpulo, levemente amadeirado. Sabor amadeirado com notas de ameixas e melado. Retrogosto com final ácido, ligeiramente defumado. Muito saborosa.
3.0 33cl, brewed by Göller. Fresh intense, slightly malty beer. Intense fruity, fresh. Nice bitterness, not too intense, nice moderate sourness. Fresh, nice bittered.
3.5 0.33l bottle. Chestnut, offwhite head. Fruity and hoppy aroma with nutty and wooden undertones, a bit dubbel-like. Medium body, quite dry chewy body, some sparkles. Wood/barn dryness, chestnuts, citrus from the hops, light berries. I’m not too fond of the dry minerally notes, but it certainly packs some flavors.
3.5 Bottle from Nathanial’s. Medium chestnut brown, Very murky. Thin head, spotty soapy lacing and zero retention. Nose has a lot going on, plenty of dark fruit, caramel, some spiciness. Mouthfeel is semi balanced with the carbonation acting as a foil for the sweetness. But it is still a bit too sweet. Overall this is missing something after showing promise.
