Fuglsang Early Bird

Fuglsang Early Bird

An American inspired pale ale using European malts and American hops. The light addition of crystal and chocolate malt contribute to the orange hue of the beer along with some caramel notes. Cascade hops are added late in the boil along with Simcoe hops in the whirlpool to give this beer it’s unique apple, tangerine and citrus profile. The yeast from America also contribute some light strawberry notes to this tasty beer from Fuglsang. A celebration of Spring in Denmark!

2.4 Ca. Pours hazy amber with a White head. Aroma of light citrus, caramel, light hops, stale, hint of butter. Taste is very sweet, stale hops. Blah
1.9 500ml can @ Shrewsbury Beer Share, March 16, thanks to Mike! Pours amber, white head. Aroma is sweetcorn & syrupy orange. Taste is boozy with a barley wine marmalade sweetness, with a metallic dry finish. Not a great start to the evening.
2.5 500ml Can on 7th March 2016: Shrewsbury Beer Exchange Group meeting. Thanks Simon (I think), for bringing this. Clear amber pour, white head that tried to hang around. Fairly sweet tasting brew with a definite corn like feel to the whole thing, grainy beer and a long way from being an APA in my limited experience of drinking them.
3.1 dark-red to brown color with big off-white head, malty bready aroma with some fruits, taste is citric with lots of malt, medium sweetness and bitternerss, bitter finish, oily mouthfeel, lively carbonation, a little too sweet but nice
3.4 Flaske. ravfarvet med en hvid skumkrone. Humle i såvel aroma som smag. Her får man god øl til små penge
1.8 Pours clear light amber with stable white head. Clear aroma of hops, malt and grain. Bitter, hoppy taste. Dry finish.
3.2 The first time I had this one it was a few months old, i.e. not entirely fresh. This time, however, it’s a real oldie, it’s passed its best before date by a few days. It pours a crystal clear medium amber body with a rather large, creamy, long-lived head that laces the glass very well. Rather strong aroma that is very malty, but there is still a reasonable amount of hops left: caramel, pale malts and tropical fruits. Fairly strong flavour of caramel, pale malts, tropical fruits and grapefruit, and pine needles in the back. It’s surprisingly tasty for its age, but it was a tad more hoppy and citric half a year ago. Light sweet taste with a pleasant medium bitter finish. It’s quite light-bodied, has a dry texture and is moderately carbonated. A nice one, I’d like to taste a fresh one some day. [50 cl can, enjoyed 5 days after BB date, from Fakta Strandby, Jylland]
3.4 50 cl can@home in lager glass@approx 6 degrees C. Pours amber orange with large white head and sufficient retention. Fruity aroma signalling American hops. Taste a good mix of caramel malt, fruitiness from the hops used and bitterness, especially in the long aftertaste. Well balanced beer. Tasty without becoming extreme, I will certainly buy this again when available. And it is not very expensive either :-)
3.0 Gylden brun klar med fingerhøyt beige skum. Lukter papp, trevirke og noe karamell. Middels fylde. Lett søtlig karamell og brunt sukker, lett bitterhet i avslutningen. Middels kullsyre.

3.5 Copenhagen 7/8 2014. 50 cl can from Rema 1000, Frederikssundsvej, Kbh. NV.i Pours slightly dark yellow with white head hanging as curtains on the side of the glass as it evaporates. Substantial lacing. Aroma is prominent and fruity. Lightly decaying exotic fruit. Slightly perfumed aroma. Harsh citric odor. Grape fruit galore. Medium carbonation. Thin, watery and a little lively texture. Flavor is medium sweet followed by stronger bitterness. Long and distinct bitter aftertaste. Rather dry finish. A lot of nostalgia caught up in this. I think it is my first American style IPA. Clearly my favourite from Fuglsang.
3.4 Can. Hazy golden pour with a decent head. Actually hoppy with some tropical fruits, hay, some herbal notes and some resin. Actually not that bad considering the other Fuglsang I’ve tried.
3.3 Clear deep amber body. Huge light beige head. Kitchen curtains in the mug, Nose get pine forest, resin, herbs, lemon, roasted juicy malts. Juicy roasted malts to the tongue, dark fruits, lemon, juicy resinous hops, nut sauce, wood. Finishes with bitter n sweet notes, still fruity. Alright body, soft carbonation. Nice brew. 3.1 0,5 l can from SuperBest, Hals, Denmark. Misty sparkling deep golden body with a small white head. Floral, piny, polleny malty nose. A malty sweetness quickly recedes to a pungent resiny bitterness. Medium bodied, carbonation on the heavy side and a lasting bitter finish.
3.4 Clear golden, light amber colour with medium off-white head. Aroma is hops, citrus and apples. Taste is sweet with notes of orange, hops.
3.2 Can. Pours clear light amber to orange with huge pale orange head that keeps increasing, very high carbonation. The head is pretty bitter, the liquid is slightly sweeter with notes of nuts and fruits in the aroma, along with light some grass, resin and malts. Long bitter finish
3.2 Can. Clear golden pour with huge white head. Aroma has some traces of freshness. Taste has some hoppy bitterness. Very easy drinkable. Not a lot of complexity.
2.6 Has a smell of pine and citrus. Pours amber with a white head. The taste is bitter with tones of pine, citrus and some notes of grass.
3.4 Can 50cl. Big foamy white head. Clear dark champagne color. Aroma is leaves, tea, hops, orange. Bitter taste of hops and orange fruits.
4.5 Caramel, floral, grass, citrus, ginger. Wonderful beer heavy on hops. A classic in my book.
3.0 Canned 2014. Fresh and lively taste. Goes well with late summer nights and barbecue.
3.5 Can at Larsen. Woddy nose, herbal , floral notes. Light amber clear color, white head. Medium body , crisp, round bubbles, dry aftertaste. :) Bolton Brew.
3.7 What a great surprise this was! Fuglsang is a hit or miss for me. They’ve made some great brews and some mediocre brews through the years. Early Bird is an outstanding beer! Lots of Cascade hops dominate, but some slightly fruity sweetness weighs it out brilliantly. Probably the best and most complex brew from Danish Fuglsang. Highly recommend!
3.3 Clear amber, rocky, white head. Hoppy aroma, soft bitterness, orange, caramel. Creamy mouthfeel, not bad.
