Full Pint Chinookie IPA

Full Pint Chinookie IPA

We hit this full bodied IPA with “nookie” four times during the brewing process to give this ale its trademark Chinook hop character.
We then “dry nookied” this flavorful ale to further enhance its grapefruit and pine aroma.

3.0 Pours a medium golden color with white head. Some citrus, grapefruit definitely, and a little pine and grass on the nose; follows onto the palate. Finishes with a little resinous hop flavor.
3.8 Pours a light amber into the glass, with a wispy head that leaves spotty lacing. The nose is of pure spruce-pine trees. Flavors, piney bitter and resinous all the way through, have plenty of orange and grapefruit citrus with a light caramel malt backbone that finish with strong Chinook hopping. Hopheads may rejoice here, absolutely! The mouthfeel, juicy with lingering "wet hop" bitterness, provides a nice quaff that is hop-forward and assertive to the palate. With a tad more malt substance, this could really take the traditional "West Coast IPA" to the next level, because 90% of it is already in place. Can’t wait to see more from this brewer. A super great start for me, for sure!
4.0 The chinookie is good. Tasty dry hopped and great character this beer had. It’s my style. Pours a nice golden amber color and has nice lacing as you enjoy the glass.
3.5 This poured a hazy yellow with a white head. Aroma was citrus Hood. Flavor was similar, earthy and a little dirty. Earlier Rating: 5/23/2010 Total Score: 3.2 This poured a bright orange/amber color with an off white head. Aroma was bittering hops and some light citrus notes, also some toasted pale malts as well. Flavor was well balanced malt and hops, but certainly nothing to make this one stand out as a bitter/good IPA, easy drinker though.
3.9 Just delicious. Big bold citrus aroma upfront with a pleasant hop bitterness through out. Balanced well with malt sweetnes . Really tasty.
3.7 DRAFT at Fat Head in Pittsburgh...drawn from a cask via pump....interesting to get used to via pump and room temp....Great fresh hop aroma, piney, herbal, and spicy....initial taste also spicy....very tasty.
3.4 Nice hoppy beer. A little bit of a sweet start but it calls quickly. I would get it again.
4.1 I really like this one. Citrus hops, oranges, sweet caramel, clean grains and hints of pine. Nice medium body. Not as dry as most IPAs.
3.7 Transfer from BA review on 4-7-13- Served on tap in a pint glass Appearance – The beer is served a very hazy orange amber color with a one finger white head. The head has good retention, slowly fading to leave a moderate level of lace on the sides of the glass. Smell – The aroma was big of a citrus grapefruit hop mixed with some sweeter tropical and lighter fruit flavors. The tropical fruits were a mix of tangerine, papaya and mango with the lighter fruits being more of a peach and apricot aroma. A light pine and sugary aroma are mixed with these producing an overall fruity and hoppy smell. Taste – The taste begins with a sweeter fruit flavor of tangerine mixed with a bit of lightly roasted malt flavor. A grapefruit hop flavor is present right up front. It starts out of moderate strength and gets stronger as the flavors advance. Tropical fruit flavors begin coming to the tongue more toward the middle of the taste. These however are mostly overshadowed by the hop flavors due to the grapefruit getting stronger as well as an arrival of an earthy and pine hop taste more toward the end. In the end a very grapefruit hop and moderately fruity (but lighter in comp to the hop flavor) is left to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the average to slightly thinner side for a IPA of its 6.2% abv with a carbonation level that is rather average. Fairly decent overall for the big hoppy and fruit flavors of the brew all while keeping it nice and easy drinking. Overall – A fairly citrus hoppy but still pretty easy drinking IPA. Well worth a try.
3.5 Pours a hazy golden with an average head for style. Nice aromas of citrus and pine. Full malt flavor with citrus and slight bitterness. Refreshing, well made beer.
3.4 Bottle pour copper orange. Nose dank hop, some papaya. Tatse mild bitter up front, then some generic sweetness with not as much fruit character as the nose. Good mouth feel. Bitter finish.
3.7 355 mL bottle. Pours translucent copper-orange with a small, slightly off-white head. Appealing aroma of citrus, pineapple, a touch of resin, and a touch of spice. The flavour is not exactly balanced, but there is a nice underlying malty, caramelly backbone to prevent this from being one-dimensional hop juice. Chinook is a lovely hop, and it is well utilized here. Bitterness is nice through the mouth, but fades fairly quickly. Body could be bigger. But overall, a very appealing, drinkable IPA.
3.9 Poured from bottle into tulip glass a hazy a deep amber. Aroma was lighter than most American IPA’s mild grapefruit and malt. The taste is different than many with the grapefruit coming at the sip and getting pine late and trough the finish but it has a nice malt note that I think adds a nice smoothness and some caramel. Body is full and there is a small alcohol note in the finish but overall a nice drinker, well done
3.6 Hazy amber/orange with a short beige head. Caramel, cheesy aroma. Taste is sweet, bright tangerine, pineapple, tropicals...... Sweet, with a solid earthy bitter. Very fresh....overall. Good one.
2.8 Bottle, best before December of 2014. Appearance: Super hazy, near opaque, amber to mahogany colored body with a very short light tan head that quickly dissolves into a thin coating. Aroma: The aroma is mild but it smells like it’s a bit old, despite it not being so. Candied orange peel and caramel come to mind, along with an odd slightly sour tinge. Definitely not an IPA aroma, but not bad. Taste: This tastes old as well. Some tea like hops noted with a dull slightly musky semi-sweet malt base. Hints of grapefruit towards the end, but really this doesn’t taste any bit like an IPA. The finish lingers a little of bitterness, but overall this is a bit dull. Palate: Full-bodied, mildly carbonated. Overall: This isn’t undrinkable, but it drinks more like a slightly aged American barley wine than an IPA. Definitely not worth it’s price, and certainly a bottom tier IPA. This isn’t a bad beer but calling it an IPA is a bit silly.
3.5 Pours a copper with thin white head. Citrus, the Chinook hops, and maybe even some pics at the nose. Taste is of a medium bitterness with an equally medium body. A good base for a northern style IPA.
3.4 Bottle, mine at 7.1% abv. Nose very hoppy, lots of resin and juice, slightly papery with heavier orange peel and grapefruit, lightly spicy. Hazy orange-golden gradient or a pour with a sudsy beige head. Taste is somewhat dry, maybe lightly sweet, little bit of alcohol showing, dull and thin caramel-leaning malt, but there’s some nice berry-like fruitiness in with the citrus, and the hops are fresh. Low resins, medium juice, relatively low bitterness and certainly less than the moderate sweet. Some good flavor here, fresh and piny, medium body, relatively clean overall with just a bit too much yeast character in the finish.
3.5 Bottle. Doing it all for Chinookie at RBSG. St. Louis hotel. Pours cloudy orange with white head. Nose/taste of pine, resin, caramel malt and grapefruit peel. Lighter medium body. Decent.
3.1 Bottle pour. Pours a hazed copper with a big white head of frothy foam. The aroma has pine and herbal notes. Taste is mildly sweet at first, but quickly becomes resinous and bitter. Finishes dry. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.
3.4 Bottle - Light pine and grapefruit. Cloudy copper with a beige head. Light grapefruit and pithy bitterness. Long bitter finish.
3.6 Slightly hazy copper coloured body with an orange glow and absolutely no head at all. Aroma of very strong biscuity malt with a piney, resinous and grapefruity hop hick and some sweet notes of honey and apricots. Medium-bodied; Assertive grassy and piney kick at first with not much malt behind it, but the aftertaste shows even more of a hop kick and some lighter sweetness at the finish. Aftertaste is blindly showing the hops but fading to a grassy, herbal kick with a nice smooth bitterness - this is more of a hop-forward IPA with missing malt, but this is good for folks who like session IPAs that weren’t intentional. Overall, a hop-centred IPA with less malt than you’d expect, but for me, that’s a good thing, just know that going into it that it’s off in balance and enjoy the hop kicks! I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Total Wine in Tampa, Florida on 03-January-2014 for US$1.99 sampled at home in Washington on 17-May-2014. Best by Date on Bottle of February 2014, Lot #379.
3.3 Bottle. Shared by the good folks at Blue Hills. Hazy amber with white head. Very hoppy aroma. Super hoppy taste with a hint of citrus and pine. Very good.
3.1 Pours an amber orange with no head. Aroma of malt, citrus and honey. Taste is sweet and malty with a bitter piney finish.
3.4 Pours dark golden color with off white head. Aromas of citrus with a hint of pine. Grapefruit and pine flavors with some sweet caramel.
3.5 Pours a hazy copper golden with minimal head. Nice fruity aroma, maybe a bit of a grapefruit scent. Light body, nice mouthfeel. Nice hop flavor, pick up some grapefruit and slight pine on the back of the tongue. Finishes very dry but nice ipa nonetheless.
3.5 Poured a light golden orange color with aromas of floral hops, pine and a touch of pineapple. Flavors are light soapy floral notes up front with some pineapple mixed in and had a pine malt backbone. Decent beer overall.
3.3 Pours burnt orange with a small offwhite head. Aroma is citrus, floral and caramel. Taste is bitter with some sweetness. Medium bodied with some stickiness.
4.1 Very strong bittering and aroma hops. Strong enough back end to support the hoppiness, but I would like a little more malt personally. Great beer overall from my favorite Pennsylvania brewery.
3.7 Bottle: The aroma consists of light-moderate grapefruit, light caramel, and a touch of fruit. It pours a cloudy burnt orange with a one finger off-white head that quickly fades to a thin film outlined by a soapy ring. There is a decent amount of dotted lacing left on the sides of the glass. The flavor starts with very quick dose of caramel and faint fruit. The finish is very bitter with heavy pine and slightly less grapefruit. It’s medium bodied with moderate-heavy carbonation.
3.4 sample at Food Bank bottle share, orange copper pour, medium bodied, piney hops, grpefruit pith & zest.
