Full Sail Hop Pursuit

Full Sail Hop Pursuit

Hop Pursuit is the ultimate celebration of Oregon agriculture and Pacific Northwest Hops. Our brewers shoot a wonderfully hoppy surplus of Cascade, Mosaic, Equinox, and Simcoe into the fermenter using our Hop Shooter, dry hopping the beer and enhancing the aroma of pineapple and late hop flavors. Piney and mango notes follow with a mid-palate hint of honey. Two-Row Northwest Pale, Caramel, and Munich malts provide the right amount of malt character. Balanced by a clean, caramel malt body, Hop Pursuit’s multi-layered hop flavors lead to a crisp, assertive finish. Like the Pacific Northwest, this IPA has hops for days.

3.4 Pours clear orange-amber with a fairly thick and persistent buff head. Aroma delivers sharp citrus and resiny hop notes plus a mild malty underpinning. Flavor puts hops ahead of citrus and ups the malt a little. Citrus is mainly fresh, tangy orange with a little grapefruit. Firm, smooth mouthfeel presents fair fizz. Go in pursuit of this one.
3.0 Six pack from Daney’s mini mart in Monterey, Ca for the great price of $7.22. Pours gold with a white head that recedes quickly. Aroma is onion and pineapple. Flavor is a mix of bitter and slightly spicy hops. I don’t get much from this beer. In general I prefer Full Sail’s lagers over their ales, and this beer is no exception. I’m not sure why my impression of this beer does not match other drinkers. Usually it does. I know that IPAs can age quick and sometimes age is a factor with IPA quality, but the best drink by date is 11/21/16 for this brew.
3.7 Sarasota, Fl - Total Wine & Spirits - 12 oz bottle. Slight sparkling essence to the medium orange pour, bubbly white head, light film of lacing. Aroma has a strong spruce presence, a hint of vanilla sweetness. Pleasant flavor, nice bittersweetness with some caramel sweetness, some grapefruit citrus notes, a touch of mango. Decently thick mouthfeel. Very enjoyable.
3.8 6.5%ABV. IPA. Poured out gold. 6ºSRM. Nose has sweet malt. There is some brief sweet corn aroma on the nose. Mouthfeel is soapy. Palate has toasted malt flavor with malted milkshakes, malted powder like Horlicks or candies like Maltesers, some toasted graham cracker and pie crust. Hops are pine, light resin, sap, hint of spice with light scallion, earthy, with a prolonged bitter finish which is herbaceous but with a pronounced bitterness that borders on resinous. Lingers on back of tongue. Finish is medium-long and with the character as above. The resinous flavor profile becomes more and more prominent the more you sip. A very satisfyingly full hop ride. Goes on Favorites List !
3.4 355ml bottle. Pours a slightly hazy golden orange with a large, frothy, long lasting, white head that leaves plenty of lacing. Sweet, floral aroma of pineapple, grapefruit, peach, caramel malt and pine. Sweet, fruity flavour of grapefruit, orange, mango, peach, pineapple, caramel malt, biscuit and pine with a dry, bitter, slight resin finish. Medium body with an oily texture and average carbonation. A solid IPA.
3.4 12 oz. bottle. Pours a well retained, tiny bubbled, ivory head, with extensive lacing, over a slightly hazy, amber (SRM 9) body.......nose is tropical fruits, with mango, peach notes, mild citrus, light pine, resin all from the hops, mild malts.....taste is light slightly sweet malts with hints of floral honey, heavy tropical notes, pine resin, light grass, allium, all from the hops, finishing with a moderate hop bitterness, balance to the hops.......mouth feel, light of medium body, no alcohol, high carbonation with light creaminess. The slight allium/grass tones are the only flaw, with the malts just barely balancing out the multiple hop notes. This is a quite typical member of the new style American craft IPA’s as such, it is almost trite. BJCP 8/3/13/4/7
3.7 Poured from bottle into a pint glass Appearance – The beer pours a lightly hazed orange amber color with a one finger white head of foam. The head fades very fast, leaving just a bit of foamy lace on the sides of the glass. Smell – The aroma of the brew is big of an herbal hop smell mixed with some aromas of a tropical fruit nature. Along with these smells comes some aromas of grass and hay along with a bit of a grapefruit hop rounding it out. Taste – The taste begins with a smooth bready flavor that has a decent sum of a tropical fruitiness as well as some nice herbal hop tastes. As the taste advances more and more grapefruit hop as well as some other sweeter tastes of caramel and orange come to the tongue. With some lighter grassy and hay tastes coming at the end and a rather big increase in an almost orange juice like tastes, one is left with a very pleasant, nicely hopped and rather fruity sweet taste to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is average in thickness and chewiness with a carbonation level that is rather average. For the mix of sweet fruit and hop, the feel is very nice and creates a very pleasant drinking brew. Overall – This is a brew that I really enjoyed. It has a great sweet body that is balanced very nicely by the hop and just enough bready/malty taste. This was a smooth and flavorful drinker.
3.6 Pours a finger of head on a hazy darker straw body. Aroma is big ripe lemon and grapefruit. Taste is malty but with a good lemon and grapefruit bitter. Texture is softer.
3.4 Poured from bottle into wet snifter, smells like dirty laundry and looks like piss. However, things improve dramatically from there. Quite a bright, brisk IPA with a pleasant mouthfeel. I would be okay with a sixer of this.
3.4 Clear copper pour with with a nice sized white head. Nose of citrus and hint of pineapple. Flavor is sweet and citrus with a bit of orange zest. Nice balance of malt that has a touch of bitter on the finish.
2.8 Bottle, pours a nice clear copper with a minimal white head and light lacing. Smells really good, floral and pineapple, like it’s gonna be a sweet one. Surprisingly, the flavor is barely there, as in any flavor. Also, a bit acidic. There is good bitterness in the finish and a so-so aftertaste, but it certainly doesn’t make up for the extremely bland taste.
2.3 12-ounce bottles in a pint glass. Typical great floral aroma, unfortunately is more bitter than most IPAs already are.
2.6 Bottle (2016 batch). Head is initially average sized, frothy, white, mostly diminishing. Body is medium to dark yellow. Aroma is lightly malty (grain), moderately hoppy (grapefruit, grass), lightly yeasty (dough), with light notes of sulfur and egg. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation, lightly alcoholic. Rather acidic and the nose has some off notes that bring down the one-dimensional hops. Not as terrible as that sounds, but not that good either.
2.6 "citrus and a touch of odd spice and breadiness. alittle thin and underwhelming, even compared to a couple other underwhelming brews
3.0 Bomber. Pours orange-amber with a surplus of carbonation, a dense beige head. Floral with citrus, mild fruit, some caramel. Taste is minerally and boozy, caramel with warmth, mineral, medium bitterness and only light sweet. Orange peel with a touch of paper. Thinking I should retry a fresher bottle.
3.9 July 28th, 2011 - I came to the Full Sail Hop Pursuit after it’s intended worship period, falling somewhere in Spring’s bracket of peak fertility. By the time I poured it into a glass, the season’s crops were already tucked into the soil, and the sun was already casting its horrible, hot gaze on Colorado. Even so, it fits nicely with the weather, but more critically, it fits with my hop preferences. Full Sail has used the Hop Pursuit to accommodate beer drinkers who have nice things to say about hops, but who eschew the race to peak bitterness. With its thin white head and a deep and husky orange-brown color, this pale ale looks like any other. The brewer’s decision to take an "old school" hop profile to this beer appears in the nose, where the hop dimensions are deep and subtle, creaking satisfyingly like an old wooden schooner, or a well-loved chair. The citrus has been sacrificed for the deep piney and woody notes; these are the scents that bring me to imaginary hop fields. The Hop Pursuit is a heavily carbonated beer, which is a disservice to the hops in the taste. It feels bland at first, until the carbonation can make way for the flavors slowly stretching across the palate. After that it is a quick acceleration into a noble, Continental hops buffet, delicious and nearly edible. It’s not too sticky or sweet, but there are definitely residual sugars playing nicely with the bitterness. There’s also a vernal fresh and floral taste, that extends long after the sip into a relaxing aftertaste cool down. Refreshing and drinkable, the relatively light palate of the Hop Pursuit makes it easy to down this quickly. Tempting as that is, this beer is best enjoyed with restraint, letting each sip unfurl until its smooth. With patience, and time, and a little warmth, a bit of lemon peel appears in the flavor, giving this beer that final detail that it needs to be one of the top beers of my summer of 2011.
3.5 Really nice fruity hop aroma and flavor -- which changes from start to aftertaste. Light malt in background; a little bit of bready flavor, and probably a little caramelized malt. Not super bitter. A really tasty easy-drinker.
3.5 Bomber. Solid American Pale Ale. Well balanced citrus and caramel flavors. Crisp and hoppy. Light bitterness throughout.
3.4 Picked this up in the bottle at Siegel's in Addison, TX. Floral hoppy aroma. Nice malty flavor with a good amount of hops on the back of the tongue.
3.1 22oz bottle that might be several months old....it was orange-yellow and smelled of lemons and a bit of grains. It tasted like a hopped up full sail pale ale, I was unimpressed. I almost think full sail beers are just showing up too late in Colorado.... Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 08-17-2010 04:44:02
3.5 22oz bottle. Poured an amber color with a smaller sized off white head. Aromas of floral hops, citrus, lighter caramel, and some toast. Tastes of citrus, caramel, and toasty.
3.3 Poured from a large bottle into a pint glass to drink. The beer had a dark amber color with a good-sized creamy, off-white head with average retention, good cling and average lacing. The aroma featured hops notes of citrus and grain, with a bit of pine, and a modest toffee malt scent too. It tasted somewhat grainy and bitter with the hops, but also had a slight sour effect. It was a very dry beer with good fizz and carbonation, and had a light, thinner mouthfeel.
3.1 Draft: Caramel colored pour with a small sandy head. Light citrus and floral aroma, more citrus in the taste. Maltier in the tail and fairly mild bitters.
4.1 Excellent APA! The Hop Pursuit pours a murky and cloudy orange color with a modest tan head. The head leaves some beautiful lacing around the inside of the glass! The nose is nicely balanced with plenty of hops, earth, bread, toast and floral spices. The body is very smooth and very drinkable. The flavors are incredibly spicy, with plenty of hops and notes of pepper, earth, lightly toasted bread, caramel and heavy spices. The finish and aftertaste are very dry, spicy and hoppy. This is an incredibly delicious and enjoyable pale ale!
3.5 Pours a nice cloudy amber colour with a small white head. Aroma is hoppy with some pine and fruity notes. Taste is fruity with hints of caramel leading to a solid bitter finish. Pretty decent.
3.4 Bottle. Poured amber with an off-white head. Aroma of citrus and perfume. The flavor found citrus rind and a malt backing. Light to medium body and a medium bitterness.
3.3 Bomber. citrus, pale, orange, not much head at all. Decent beer but I might not purchase again. If I did it would be because I was feeling cheap. This beer is average but a good value if anything.
3.4 Tough to drink this one without thinking of Roscoe P Coltraine from the Dukes of Hazzard who would always be in Hot (Hop) Pursuit of the Duke boys. Golden amber with a medium beige head. Aroma is hoppy enough with floral and citrus hops and some caramel beneath it. Taste is inline with aroma and finishes up moderately bitter. Kew kew kew, flash.
3.4 bottle thanks to bhensonb. poured gold with a white head. aroma was pine and citrus. flavor was pretty much straight up pine with a light and fizzy body.
3.3 The theme tonight is bottles with green labels apparently. Green meaning the color green, not environmentally conscious. Hop Pursuit is your typical PAC hoppy beer. It has a bit of "skunkiness" to it, and it goes down rough. I’ll take it though, I’d prefer a rugged dirty beer to a hipster IPA any day.
