3.6Bottle at home. Wow, one of the better brown ales I’ve had. Nice rich chocolatey brown pour with a sticky head. Nut and mild chocolate in this - not too sweet, not too dry, nice body. Well done.
3.6From 12oz bottle to shaker. Pour is a deep copper, nice and thick tan head. Nose is malt, slight hop, nutty, faint chocolate. Taste is medium bodied, bitter with light sweet touches as well. Finishes very flavorful and smooth. Nice Nut Brown Ale here, perfect by the fire beer.
3.4Sweet almond and hazelnut aromas with bready character. A shallow layer of off white head tops this dark brown beer.
Medium body and malt forward balanced sweetness. Finishes with a modest bitterness and astringency from the roast malt backed with a mild hop bitterness.
Overall a balanced but bold.brown ale.
2.3Very mild pecan nose. Clear brown, thin head. Tart initially, but transitions from raw cranberry to pecan. Grape seeds also present. A bit roo tart and fruity for a brown ale, but nutty character is evident.
3.8Pours a dark brown color with a thin tan head. Malt, caramel, nut, chocolate, coffee and toffee aroma. Chocolate, caramel, toffee, toast, nut, coffee and malt flavors. Medium body and mild carbonation. Slightly sweet taste and a malty carmel and chocolate finish.
3.6Pours dark brown, min light tan head.

Lovely crystal brown with a near complete tan sheet. Smells of nuts, cocoa, roasted malts, a hint of low impact, earthy hops and just a hint of cinnamon. Taste is bitter, slightly sweet, roasty, toasty and maybe a little astringent. There’s something a little off in the flavor. Medium bodied with fine, velvet carb and an off dry finish. Decent.
3.8A delicious, thick-bodied brown ale. Resembles a stout. Nice, chocolately flavor. Smooth. A great, refreshing drink!
3.2Bottle. Hazy brown pour with a finger of head. Oak, whiskey, brown sauce, soy sauce, chocolate. Water-like and light initially with sugar and carbonation towards the middle with water and bitterness at the finish. Good
3.3Dark brown translucent one finger white head. Aroma of big roasted barley, soy sauce, malt. Tastes like roasts; coffee, barley, chocolate. Some acidic tang to finish palate is overcarbed. pretty good.
3.3Decent example of the style. Firm malt back bone and enough hops to balance the sweetness. I prefer Full Sail Amber, but I decided to try this after seeing it offered for the first time at Trader Joe’s in San Fran. Will try their ESB on the next trip to TJ’s. Looking forward to a visit to the ’mother ship’ brewery in Hood River, OR - maybe later this summer? I’m sure that’s where they keep ’the good stuff’.....
3.112oz bottle, from Jungle Jim’s in Fairfield. Enjoy by 6/01/13. Dark brown color. Thin khaki head. Few loose reaches of lace. Medium body. Smooth lighter carbonation. Light stickiness in the finish. Nice nutty malt and cocoa flavor. Moderate sweet taste. Decent nut brown
3.3Bottle. Pours dark cola brown. taste is heavy doses caramel malt, some coffee hints, nutty, earthy, mild hop. Good brown. Exceeded expectations.
3.0Hints of vanilla, wood and cocoa. Maple brown, clear and headless. Nutty, unsweetened chocolate taste. Body is dry and thin, not what is expected for a brown ale.
3.1Bottle. Enjoy by 6/1/13. Consumed 5/28/13. Pours dark brown-black with a thin white head. Aroma is lagery; bread, earth, chocolate, hints of fruit, sweetness. Taste is creamy, chocolate, nutty, vaguely fruity, some bitter chocolate, roast malt; finish is slightly bitter, toasted hazelnut. Mouth feel is chewier than I was expecting; nice. Carbonation is fairly low; mild. No lacing. Tasty and not terrible; there is a hint of macro in here, vague similarities to a Miller. It isn’t overpowering but is a bit disappointing.
2.4Random dark beer with a quickly disappearing head. Aroma is slight and neutral. Heart of the beer is a lingering odd bitterness. Malt is thin but decent. Little to critique, just and ordinary brown. Def. harsh, nothing worth going on about.
3.2Bottle thanks to scotchzi! Pours a translucent brown with thin tab lacy head that doesn’t really stick. Aroma of typical nut brown, toasted barley, nutty earth, slight toffee and coffee. Taste follows, smooth and pretty solid for what it is.
3.712oz bottle pours a transparent, mahogany brown with some creamy, lacing white head. Nose is decent, crackers, brown sugar, lightly toasted bread, biscuit, a little toasted almond. Flavor is solid, a little raisin, brown sugar, biscuit, a touch of light coffee, bread crust, chewy grains. Medium bodied, dry, malty finish. Solid brown ale.
3.3Draft at Beer Run. Pours a clear red-brown color with a creamy tan head. Good head retention. Aroma of caramel, toffee, apples, nuts, other fruit notes. The taste is toffee, spicy hops. nutty notes. Medium bodied.
3.1Pour out of 12 oz bottle, dark brownish black pour with thin tan head, aroma brought notes of sour fruits, some cardboard, hints of oak, vanilla, red fruit, touch of chocolate powder. Taste is a mix of caramel, toffee, vanilla, hints of oak, slight cardboard, hints of grass and earth, finishing sweet. Eh.
2.8It’s awfully brown. Weak woody and mineral aroma. Thin, acidic on the palate. A few enjoyable malt notes, nutmeg and brown sugar. Not impressed, but hey, it sure is brown.
3.5Deep brown. White lacy head. Medium body amd brown malt flavor. Balanced well, not too malty or nutty. Cool on the palate. Good session brown that finishes with a nice little refreshing bitterness.
3.4Full Sail Nut Brown Ale has a thick, off-white head and a clear, somewhat bubbly, red-brown appearance, with a little bit of lacing left behind. The aroma is faint, but the drinker can pick up some subtle brown bread crust and sweetness, however, there really isn’t a lot there. Taste is of the same, with some sweetness an acceptable bitterness, and maybe some brown bread crust. Mouthfeel is light and watery (like lager), and Full Sail Nut Brown Ale finishes semi-dry, refreshing, and rather boring. Oh, it’s a very good beer, but for the price, one could do better with Icehouse, for instance, a beer that has a fuller, bolder presentation. Another example of a craft beer that makes the case for macro-lager. RJT
4.2Out of the bottle we see a medium brown-colored ale, quite distinct because it lacks any ruby or reddish undertones. Clear. Head is 1 shade past off-white, is rocky, and lingers. Aroma has distinct brown malt notes, nutty, lightly toasty, dusty, savory, woody, forest, hinting at cocoa but not roasted or burnt. Tastes spot-on to what an American Brown Ale should taste like. Balanced sweetness with a dry nuttiness. Carbonation gives it a clean finish with a slightly nutty aftertaste. A fine example of the style.
3.1Dark brown, clear, beige head. Light aroma of nutty, biscuity malt. Flavor is nutty, chocolate, grainy finish. Clean.
2.912 ounce bottle. Deep reddish brown color. Small beige head. Faint roasted malt aroma with light nutty undertones. Tangy toasted malt flavor has light notes of nuts and cocoa. Thin bodied and one-dimensional. Light spicy hops in finish.
2.9Clear cola brown with a sudsy light beige head that laces lightly. Aroma of nuts and cocoa. Taste is nutty with a very faint sweetness and correspondingly faint bitterness. Light-medium bodied and pretty smooth. Decent, and easy drinking, but very plain.
2.9I still have hope that there will be a few impressive beers from a brewery that I normally expect to mediocre beers. And this is why I keep reviewing Full Sail beers. This is, really, just as mediocre as most everything else that they make.
Although the beer itself isn’t much to look at (well, nut brown ales aren’t usually too pretty in general), it has a good-looking, fine off-white head that maintains very thinly, but still solid and dense, through the entire length of the glass. No lacing has a chance to form, as the head slides right down the edges of the glass. No, there isn’t much residual sweetness in this beer and the only real character of sweetness comes from the nut/vanilla notes in the nose and in the flavor.
Although the aroma is pretty soft and muted, its flavor is much more characteristic, with a soft, gentle, light roasted malt flavor accompanied by some nut-like vanilla. That malty vanilla flavor carries through into the finish and settles into the tongue with notes of wet wood. If this was a little more intensely flavored and was a little sweeter, with a body that wasn’t quite so flat, I would really enjoy this. But its shortcomings are too obvious to really enjoy.
There are so many ways to make a really great nut brown, but that requires you to have some creativity, a good palate, and the tenacity to produce it. There’s no trace of that effort in this beer.
3.5Pours coca cola color with off white diminishing head. Aroma of sweet floral and roasted coconut or almond husk. Floral is super-sweet like lily. Roasted cashew and almond husk into bitter floral (not sweet). Dark roasted huskl end bitter nutty malt and end classic nut brown ale. Very complex. Still not sold on nut ales, but the best I’ve ever had.
3.1Pours a deep dark brown with a tan head. Smells of smoke and sweet malt. A nice smokey flavor with sweet malt just like in the nose. There are also hints of nuts.
