Full Sail Rip Curl

Full Sail Rip Curl

This tasty copper ale was originally called White Cap brewed in honor of our 15th Anniversary. Everyone liked the beer so much; we decided to release it year-round. To avoid any perceived consumer confusion, we changed the name to Rip Curl to celebrate the ripping winds and whitecaps of the Columbia River Gorge," It’s a thirst quenching easy drinking copper ale that has smooth wave of maltiness that crests to a clean fast finish. Brewed with a blend of specialty Caramel and Pale malt and balanced with East Kent Golding, Challenger & Fuggle hops. Rip Curl will also be available on draught in 1/2 & 1/4 bbls.

2.3 Bottle. thanks to friends in Idaho. Pours a dark golden color. Has a hint of apricot, and caramel. Has a little bit of a hoppy taste but not too much.
2.9 A decent overall beer. Has a slight hoppy presence to it, alsoo has a weak malt flavoring. Bought it becuz it was on sale, and I like Full Sail beers, but definitely not their best offering. Has notes of caramel and apricot in the nose, a fairly good flavoring overall. Drinkable, better than any American macro but not as good as other beers available in my area.
3.0 On tap at Pilsener Room, Portland. Amber with lasting beige head. Slightly malty bitter. Too cold, but fine, nicely made.
2.8 I thought this beer to bet slightly better than average. Not a beer I will choose again, but not horrible.
2.2 this beer was okay. probably wont be buying it any time soon. but it was worth trying.
3.3 Caramel and apricot aromas stand out in this beer. Thick white head which slowly dissolves over a copper colored body. Light bodied, easy drinking. Malt dominated, and thus there is less hop presence. Nothing spectacular, but refreshing nonetheless.
2.8 Had this beer at the Orchard House on the King Estate Winery Estate. Its seems to be an ESB. a nice beer. dark amber. very well balanced.
3.3 12 oz bottle. Clear copper color with thin white head. Aroma is biscuity malt, grassy hops, and wet pavement. Tatses of light malty caramel and toasted bread with an earthy accent. Dry and crisp.
2.8 Bottle: Clear amber color with off-white head. Aromas of wet leather, overly ripe fruit and alcohol. It is Bass-like in tastes - malty, sweet, a wee bit of formaldehyde and sweaty socks (which Bass doesn’t have). There is almost a "tinny" metallic aftertaste, some sourness and it leaves the feeling throughout that you accidentally walked through a cloud of your mom’s hairspray and it left a thin film in the back of your throat. Ok.
1.7 This had an average head.Color was amber.aroma was of a biting corn and hops.It tasted a bit sour.Had a familiar taste, which i soon pin pointed to the same as Schitz malt liquor.Although this wasn’t quite as strong tasting.I didn’t like the schitz, even though it was preferred when I was a teen ager.I stated that the Schiltz malt liquor("the Bull") tasted like Bull pee,and this does too!Only not as strong.
2.0 This was a rather uninspired brew. Copper with a weak off-white head. Lackluster aroma of hops and malt. Somewhat sweet but not in any appealing manner. Thin and watery.
3.0 attractive beer. shiny copper with fruity brown undertones. Treacly head the lingers for a little while. Nose is decent. Sour apples and dried apricots. Maris otter backbone. Excellent sweetness. Sticky even. However there is a strnage watery soapy background. Flavors at first are very sugary. Caro syrup and brown sugar. Carbonation floods the mouth and then an astringent bitterness. Citrusy but leaving something to be desired. Too carbonated for the style and not enough presence in the mouthfeel to make this a good pass at the style. Astringent bitterness is at first nice and then overwhelming. All in all not the worst of its kind but I wouldn’t drink this every day.
2.7 A hazy orange beer with an orange head. The aroma is sweet malty with a light touch of fruit. The flavor is sweet malty again with a light touch of fruit, leading to a bitter end. A boring beer.
2.6 (Bottle 35,5 cl) Clear amber golden with an off-white head. Light aroma of caramel and hops. Rather thin body with caramelish accents. Lightly fruity with a very discreet bitterness. Too discreet. 200606
2.9 Pours to a brownish orange body with no head. The aroma is something like tomato and cabbage soup. The flavor is a odd "spicy"/"earthy" hop. The palate is middle of the road.
2.9 pours a reddish copper color w/ a thick lacing and a nice small bubbled off white head. Aroma is english toffee and a bit of earthy vegetables (tomato soup and dirt maybe)... very odd and not very good. Palate is fairly light but well carbonated. Flavor is very light some basic breads touch of other grains some light carmels... blah!
3.0 12oz bottled shared by Blake. Clear dark amber body under a thin light tan head. Odd aroma - old tomatoes, cigar wrapper, earth all over subtle brown malt. Medium mouthfeel but a very light flavor. Green apple skin and plant stem hops alongside lightly chocolately and caramel malt. The bottle says "ridiculously tasty" but I’m calling BS on that. Pretty boring stuff.
3.2 Red-tinged copper pour with a small white head. Pleasant grainy aroma, toasted rye bread, and a faint hint of earthy hops. Slightly chewy carmel flavor with more bitterness than the faint hop aroma would indicate. A bit more body than I expect for the style, but it does make a glass of this feel satisfying.
3.6 (Bottle (stamped "112605") via trade with Degarth, thanks Joe!) Pours cloudy amber orange with a nice biscuit head. Aroma fairly hoppy, also caramel, vanilla and malt. Mouthfeel fairly smooth and full, a little dryish. Small rings of weepy lacing. Flavor is moderate bitterness overlaying light caramel, very light fruity hops, vanilla and maltiness. Pretty nice.
3.5 Tap. Pours amber with white head. not very carbonated. This beer was surprisingly quafable.
2.4 Golden amber. I preferred the regular pale. This is clean and thin. I even preferred the lager.
3.4 Clear orange/amber color with a small white head. Tastes of maltiness, caramels, and finished with a light amount of hops. Taste is very clean and crisp, finishes very well.
2.9 Amber color with no head. Slight malty aroma. Actually, both the full sail pale ale and this one come across as english pales ales with just a touch of american hops thrown in to make things interesting.
3.7 From a 12oz. twist cap long neck brown bottle with an impressive painting of Agate Beach on the neck label and a best before date stamped on shoulder of bottle, 07/23/06. Made a good appearance, poured an orange hued copper with a foamy off-white head that settled into a thin, minimally sticking lacing, good carbonation. Had a toasted grainy, with caramel at edges, malty nose, earthy and yeasty also. A crisp, creamy lightish medium bodied mouth feel, very good drinkability, easy and smooth. Good tasting, toasted grains, apple fruity, light sweet caramel maltiness, smooth hop bitterness, earthy, light tropical fruity and a dryish sweet grainy finish. I enjoyed this APA from Full Sail, a lot of English Pale Ale characteristics, tasty and balanced.
3.5 From the bottle. Pours clear light orange with a nice fluffy head; at first sip at fridge temperature, the beer seems thin, watered down - but as it warms, it comes into its own as a very nice and authentic-tasting bitters. A well-rounded malt front -- cracker and some sweet caramel malts -- yields to a lovely British hop finish. The commercial description, cliche as it may be, is quite accurate: "...wave of maltiness that crests to a clean fast finish."
3.2 Bright orange-copper with no head. Bit of plastic coloured malts and breakfast cereals. Very discreet but tasty coloured malts. A bit of hops, leafy. Light bodied but not empty, some bite. Pastry in the aftertaste. It’s very low profile if I describe it, but it’s actually quite agreable.
3.0 Bottle poured a clear amber with a lasting off-white head. Aromas of carmel, dark bread, and earthiness. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of carmel, toffee, bread and loads of malt with a smooth lingering malty finish
3.7 Courtesy of Mjames Floral hops with a toasty malt undertone. Amber in color with a slowly diminishing thumb thick white head. Toasted, nutty malt in the fore...stale fruits, caramel and peanut skin flavors all make and appearance. Pretty decent.
3.4 A touch boring, but otherwise a well executed english pale ale. Brownish amber color with a firm 2 finger head. Floral hops with a nutty-caramel malt base. Balanced, with just a touch of fruit. Smooth, easy drinking.
3.0 wet cedar colored beverage, like a coat of lacquer on a cigar box, and certainly in high gloss with it’s blinding clarity. firm head sits resolutely on top like a fat slice of onion-- one that sizzles away ever so slowly. a creamy caramel and orange aroma akin to candy circus peanuts or sherbert, a bit of grass and honey. it’s a pretty straight forward quaffer-- light bodied and about as show-offy and ornamental as a ball peen hammer. moderate in every category: sweetness, bitterness, a nod of malt texture here, a wink of fruit over there. a basic tool, so don’t try to play bach with it, but pound away on any thirst and this plain little hammer oughta do the trick.
