Every aspect of this IPA is amplified – from the upfront hop aroma and bitterness to the big malt body. Slipknot features a big Northwest hop aroma and robust bitterness balanced with a full malt body. Cascade, Crystal, Brewer’s Gold, and Cluster hops deliver pungent scents of citrus and pine. Extensive dry-hopping enhances this character with flavors to match. Northwest 2 Row Pale, Crystal and Rye malts add a rich spicy malt character. This full bodied IPA pours a rich golden-orange hue that glows like the late winter sun.

4.0Tap @ Parkway. Clear amber pour with a short white head leaving a moderate lace. Orange nose, medium heavy body with a toasty malt sweetness. Strong bitter citrus hop middle and finish, ending with a more resinous hop flavor. Medium, fine carbonation. If you like IPAs and want an IIPA with all the hoppiness of an IPA, then you’ll like this FS offering.
3.4Bomber from Pacific Liquor in North Park ($4.99). Pours a clear orange-amber hue with one finger of white-ish foam that quickly dissipates. Aroma of sweet malts, weak sweet citric hoppy notes, and a hint of booze. Flavor also of sweet caramel and only a very mild hop presence with notes of tea and citrus and no bitterness. More sweet caramel in the finish. I’ve sat on this for several months, so maybe the hops have mellowed out a lot. This comes across as a slightly hoppy amber ale or a weak barley wine, but definitely not a DIPA. (293, 404)
3.3Bomber. Reddish orange in appearance with a thin layer of resinous head and nice lacing patterns around the glass. The aroma is mostly caramel, hops resin and dried mango. The taste starts with sour ruby red grapefruit and toasted malt flavors along with herbal hops, oranges, caramel and alcohol toward the end. The mouthfeel is slightly syrupy with medium carbonation and an astringent, citrusy finish. Being that this bottle is at least 7 months old, it’s not surprising the hops have faded a bit. At this point, the sour citrus and caramel malt dominate the overall flavor. Not bad but probably better fresh.
2.9(bottle, sampled 3/4/10). Clear light copper color. Medium off white head. Earthy/grassy hop aroma. Spicy hop flavor. Avg duration. Moderate bitter finish. Slick texture. Moderate carbonation. Fair lacing.
3.8Cloudy golden with a medium sized off white head. Aroma had tangerine, grapefruits, hops and peach. Flavor was very dry with plenty of hops that gave notes of tangerine, peach, grapefruit, pine and lemons. finished bone dry and very bitter. I liked it for it’s very exotic fruitiness and cause it was dry and bitter. Nice one.
4.1Poured a hazy golden-orange with a large head which dissapated into a lining of white foam. Lacing was nice and lasting. Nose was citrus - especially orange, as well as biscuity honey malt background. Taste was a very nice blend of hop bitterness and caramel sweetness with some piney, grassy and alcohol notes. Finish was crisp and clean and slightly (but pleasantly) bitter. Mouthfeel was medium with good carbonation. This was a very refreshing brew for a warm day and one I wish I had more access to.
3.722 Oz. Pours a hazed orange amber color with big solid head. Aroma is very piney hops with hints of resin, grapfruit, bread, and slight toast. Flavor is intensely bitter upfront balanced by light tasting but sturdy malt balance. Finish is crisp yet a stinging bitterness clings to the mouth but besides that the palate of this medium to heavy bodied bear is very good. Overall a very tasty Imperial IPA for a dollar or two cheaper than the next.
3.6Shipped to me my wife from a trip to Portland. Sampled from a 22 oz brown bottle this beer poured an orange-amber color with a small orange-white head that produced good lacing. The aroma was sweet and tangy pine and grapefruit. The flavor was bitter and tart with moderate notes of pine, grapefruit and lemon and light sour nutty malts and caramel. The finish was long, tangy, tart and hoppy. Fairly full bodied. Nice.
3.5Mostly clear orange, foamy beige head. Aroma- pine and orange rind. taste is more bitter than sweet but not much. Good smooth texture.
2.9Bottle pours orange-copper with a decent size off-white head with no lacing. Aroma is strangely funky and suprisingly malt driven for being an IIPA. Nose shows peach, grapefruit, light caramel, wood, funky earth, and a slight vegetable note that I cannot put my finger on. Flavor shows the same with the malt leaning more on the bread side than caramel. Overall body is moderate, and finishes with moderate to heavy bitterness. Interesting I guess, but I can’t say that I would actually seek this one out.
3.1Pint at the restaurant next door to the brewery. This is a copper brew with no real head. The aroma is strangely malty for an IIPA. Notes of apples, wood and vegetables are here. Where are the hops? In the flavor some very mild bitterness becomes apparent. More viscous than usual body and some alcohol strength in the flavor at least allow me to realize the server more than likely brought me the correct beer. This tastes like a South Carolina brewed IIPA.
3.6Bottle shared by a friend. Clear gold/amber pour with a medium off-white head. Sweet malt and grassy hops in the nose. Sweet malt flavor up front with grassy hops and a lasting bitter finish.
3.7Pours amber and is a little hazy. Aroma is very floral with a strong yeasty element to it. Flavour is very smooth to start with a real progression of hop flavour, First a grippingly sour citrus flavour and continues to eveolve into one of the most bitter IPAs I have ever had. And the flavour lingers forever I think I was still tasting it the next day! Very impressive.
3.3Bottle, shared wih Parksy. Pours a cloudy honey gold with a brief golden head. Aroma is reedy maltiness and resinous vegetal hops. Flavour is hoppy, but somewhat soapy rather than citric or resinous. Not as smooth as I’d like. The hop character just doesn’t satisfy as much as I’d hoped. Decent, but one was enough.
3.66 oz sample at beer tasting at Enoteca 2010 vintage- Pours brownish golden with little head, aroma is malt and hops, but mostly hops. The flavor has a nice hop character, and is well balanced with plenty of malt, not bad but have had better.
3.5Full Sail tasting at Enoteca in Post Falls, Idaho. 4 oz sample from bomber poured into shaker. Tangy pot, gym locker aroma. Funky, yet really good, paradoxically. Pours golden with a medium dissipating head and nice lacework. Flavor is tangy, bready, hoppy, grapefruit. Medium-low carbonation. Nicely balanced. I dig the funkiness of it, but other than that, it’s just average.
2.7Nice full citrus hop aroma. Looks nice. The flavor of this beer is only okay. It really seems a bit alcoholic in flavor. This beer actually gave me a bit of a headache. Not good.
2.9Bomber served in a tulip. Pours clear, amber-orange with a short off-white head. Leaves sparse lacing and has short retention. Aroma has dough and nuts with some orange-lemon citrus. Flavor has malt up front followed by a punch of piney, bitter hops. Lacks sweetness entirely. Medium body, decent carbonation, and bitter finish.
3.7Bottle. For me, at this particular juncture, this is a near-perfect northwest coast beer. Pours deep amber with medium white heat. Big, blustery single-hop herbal/piney smell. Centennial or willamette maybe. Mt. Hood? One of the hops that one is constantly finding in abundance in these wonderful Washington/Oregon pales and ipas. Flavor is mild hop resins and bitterness backed by a nicely composed malt structure. Just enough to make the malt assertive, but to take a backseat to the pungent hops. Not even a trace of the 8.2% abv listed on the label in the taste or aftertaste. Lingering pure, single hop flavor on the palate through the finish. For me, bliss is the intense and sustained experience of the heart and soul of a single hop. This beer does that.
3.3Amber-orange with a dissipating white head that lacks a little in tenacity. Aroma is laden with citrus hops, fruity sweetness and a grainy, biscuity malt. Flavor is hoppy bitter, grassy with an earthy finish. Body is a little soapy and resinous. Not bad but I expect more layered hops in my DIPAs.
3.1Bottle. Pours medium amber, thin head, okay lacing. Nose is very dry, with hops tending more towards spice than to pine or citrus. Rather simple, very softly metallic. Flavor is much the same as the nose, straightforward, simple, dry, and mildly metallic. Nothing really wrong, but this somehow misses the point entirely.
3.2Bottle. Pours a light orange/gold in color. Thin and short head. Light hops/biscuit in aroma. Bland on the palate but a good finish with lots of flavor. Another IPA.
3.4From tap at the Bistro, Hayward. Pours clear and golden orange with a small white head. Aroma is mild fruity and light peachy. Dry, spiced and bitter hoppy. Dry and spiced hoppy finish. Vague caramelish note. Bone dry.
3.9Bottle thanks to scrizzz. Pours a clear orange with a thick, foamy white head. Aroma of garlicky hops, light citrus. Flavor of garlicky hops, grainy malt, citrus and tropical fruits, hop resins. MMMM, tasty! Great hop character, great beer!
8/4/8/4/15 [3.9/5]
3.2Bottle. Poured a clear orange with a small, white head. Aroma is earthy, herbal, and grassy. Flavor is a little bready malt with more of the grassy, earthy, slightly lemony hop presence and a lightly bitter finish. Pleasantly dry. This doesn’t have as much of a hop kick as I like from IIPAs, but the hop aromatics it has are quite nice.
3.422 oz bottle. Pours a clear amber with a sticky dense white head. Aroma is lots of citrus, pine, floral, cereal, sugar and a mild soapy scent. Taste is sweet malt up front and then slowly fades to a strong hop bitterness, there is a very light alcohol taste. Medium body with average carbonation, a slightly syrupy mouth feel and a long bitter finish. Overall a nice IIPA, not one I would get really excited to drink every year but would go back to it for sure.
3.3Pour is an orange/red tint with minimal white head.Nose is Citrus, caramel, grain, cereal, pine, and hops. Flavor is minimal malt, citrus, hops, and an earthy grain. Palate is minimal oil and sticky. A decent iipa for the price.
3.9-Note bottle tasted on 04/29/07 was MUCH better than the tap. I’d give that one a 4/5 and I have adjusted accordingly
On tap at the Falling Rock. The beer was served in a pint glass and was a light orange yellow in color. The smell was faint but grainy. The taste was very malty and a big let-down. I find Full Sail beers to fall at the ends of the spectrum. They are either phenomenal or they suck big time. This one sucked. I will try again with a bottle to see if it makes a difference.

3.22009 Bottle - Drinkin while watching BSU v. TCU in the Fiesta Bowl...Pours clear orange with a medium off white head...aroma is citrus and caramel, ton of cereal grain as well...flavour is similar, kinda bitter, but not hop bitter, old and grainy, some malt...kinda bad...
3.3~Aroma Grassy, earthy, grapefruit, with a slight caramel background. Together these aromas create a resinous scent that is hard to describe.
~Pours a clear golden amber color with small persistant white head.
~Earthy hop flavor with grassiness and a pretty intense grapefruit hopiness. Malts barely detectable. Some oakiness at finish.
~Med bodied with med carbonation. Dry. Some hop derived astringency. Very bitter finish.
~ Im not a big fan of this one. Would be nice if more malts were added to help support the hop bitterness. I like hops and bitterness, but this was almost pushed too far. Hopefully it will put some hair on my chest.
